new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

@Lunar

So let's review the pro and cons of this as it relates to my setup. Extron/ to v20 to tv

Pros
HDMI!
Wider array of inputs (composite svideo, d 15
Optical audio
Better scaler than my VP20

Cons
Only HDMI output?
Will still need extron for multiple component RGB systems
Temporary stop gap for OSSC 1.6?

20 has optical audio. Also has 2 composite and svideo inputs instead of just one of each on the Duo.

Both only have hdmi out. 30/50/50pro have some more flexible outputs.

Duo is absolutely a better processor than a 20 though.

I thought OSSC is ideally paired with a video scaler like this. OSSC just takes lines, doubles them, and blasts them out the other end. You can do all your zooming, cropping, panning, and upscaling to 1080p by pairing it with a video processor.

Yea, that's what @ErickRPG is doing. Though he just wanted OSSC to work with his TV but its a nice combo I hear.

I think OSSC + DVDO ends up being more expensive than the FM lol

I don't know what you're smoking. Your gif is scaled down 256x256 to 80x80 for GTZ so it's the one that's blurry! I made mine from a sprite sheet to be exactly 80x80! I had to edit the sword color so it would show up on both background colors though, so mine is BS in that sense.

And there's no 100% correct NES color palette, It was determined by TVs or something. NTSC = Never Twice the Same Color. I don't know how it works. All I know is the sky in Super Mario Bros. is purple and I hate when emulators make it blue.

With that addressed it's time to dog about eBay again. Just got an offer for $10 shipped on a game that has to ship in a box. So I clear like $4? Eat crap buddy. Now that I think about it in general, I'm going to remove it from eBay and dump it at the game store along with some EU brand:::Sega Dreamcast games and Famicom games.

Surprisingly tasteful! My pre-move setup's boring, TV on a multishelf storage crate, switch docked on top of a USPS handler crate. Just have the SNESC and Switch out pretty much, may dink around with a multi-console setup after the Ikea over here opens and I take a look at what they've got. Or I may just display them in sections but unhooked. Maybe do some tasteful LED lighting.

I'm probably the closest to the next DonLad if we're strictly talking about hoarding whatever garbage video games I can find. I would totally get monthly garbage subscriptions but I get games even cheaper than that so in a sense I'm out-DonLadding the DonLad I even bought some mystery ds games that showed up yesterday

Snatcher is a burned copy. I wish I was ballen enough to buy Snatcher out right. The CDX was just acquired from @Snatcher and the AVS comes from @Lunar. Honesty, the picture is nice on the PVM but the sony triniton has a good enough picture for me. I am tired of trying to get Geometry perfect so I may get rid of both and get an OSSC.

I have JUST an OSSC. And it is much much better than any DVDO I've ever tried. The line 4x mode has done wonders for some of my PSOne games. It's made a game like King's Field II palatable on a 65" screen. That's something no DVDO can do.

I would say DVDO's are worth it as a way to get RGB and S-videos hooked up to modern TVs and looking good doing it, with no defects like those cheap chinese HDMI converters. I have not seen anything more expensive than the VP20. But if I had $200 to spend, I would skip the iscan and go straight for the OSSC. The less expensive DVDOs in the $100 or less catagory are worth it.

I go through spurts of systems I'm frequently playing (unless it's trash like N64) but I keep them all because I don't want to have to go buy say, a Sega CD, when I want to play something on that again.

Honestly, 20 inches and less it's likely going to be pretty spot on unless it was stored craptily or saw heavy use. Now a CRT projector, that's annoying to calibrate. I currently have almost nothing hooked up as I'm working on it.

As far as PVM vs regular SD tv sets, it's a pretty solid difference but it varies person to person how important it is. I notice a difference even with composite but when I was playing some Super Mario World 2 it wasn't such a difference that I haaad to get out the PVM to play. It's even much less of a difference with a VGA CRT monitor though certainly a different look/feel.

If one's only concern is gaming I agree generally. I can't speak to playing KFII on a 65'' screen though, nor is that something I desire to do. Lol. Certainly agree about the pricing. In a perfect world 30 would be about $80 w/o the card and HD+/20 like $50. That's about how I'd value them for their performance. 50Pro has been great for me with film content, would like to get my hands on @Lunar Duo for comparisons in that regard however, especially with brand:::LaserDisc .

Speaking of audio issues. I did not know exactly how audio would work, I had Lunar's 3 way audio splitter at the ready. But as far as scart, the OSSC just sends the audio straight to my TV with the HDMI out. Which is pretty awesome. I only need separate audio for VGA or Component.

Spoiler alerts

If you mean like input codes idk but I was watching the speed run champion and he did some weird little hit box tricks where if you get hit by a small medusa while you are jumping you can get pushed to the level above you to save time. I already knew about most of those and I tried to get one to work with a small bat.

There's also tricks with the holy water on certain bosses where they can't even move and you can just destroy them easily. Without taking any damage.

Also the holy water stuns the enemies that take more than one hit of damage and while they are stunned you can literally walk right through them.

Yeah I ordered mine in July and got mine end of September. When you order OSSC just expect that you will be on a 2 month+ waiting period. It's just one guy who has to order parts and make them in batches. Go ahead and pay now, def worth the wait. OSSC is my favorite retro game upscaler experience yet! It can make SNES and PS2 games look great on a 65" screen, it's a great product! It has options like line doubler, line tripler that you can experiment with, and you can even mess with scanlines horizontal, vertical, and mixed. There were a few games where I was like "Huh, vertical scanlines look great!".

My Life in Gaming folks say that 480p content is best on the dvdo products whereas 240 to 480i is best on OSSC.

Now for the oddball Dreamcast, how about this?

Yeah the OSSC is far from ideal with 480p content from what I've heard. It's just a line doubler for better or worse which is why it's lag free. The best thing about the OSSC is that it's designed for gaming. It should properly recognize signals from even the most oddball of old systems. Also the way it handles colour is pretty great. Just a great utility item to have around.

3-4 people? Wieners maybe.

Anyway it's a nice TV but it depends on what you want it for. 240p game content over composite is honestly worse than a random SD CRT imo.

My boss had that exact TV and it hurt just looking at it. When I had to take my old rear projection out of the basement, I had to disassemble it because it was too damn big and heavy.

Also, I'm giving up on Castlevania 64. The camera, combat, and framerate have defeated me.

It's pretty great for 480-720p content. Also really solid for older film content, idk if you care about that but I gotta mention it since I've watched a lot of older video format content on mine.

The reason imo it isn't great for 240p game content is because due to it being HD/digital tv there is digital processing, so it's not the same as older CRTs at all.

Transcoding with RGB would be good enough for most people I'd think. What I was doing was using my 30 and outputting to component at 720p. That way the tv wasn't doing any scaling. Overall for a multi-purpose display it's a pretty good option. Excellent color.

Wow even with Nintendo power walkthroughs you couldn't pull it off?

That's not the can do attitude I've come to expect from you sir! Dust yourself off and fight the minions of darkness 😊 Did you even fight any minotaurs yet? (I think there is a Minotaur boss fight 😍 But I could be remembering that wrong. It's been almost 20 years I think)

I saw a copy the other day for 15 dollars and I wanted it but then I figured "what for?!?" My 1 dollar n64 project is still missing most out the components I need to see if it even works so 😐

Of course it does. It can't take RGB over scart though, obviously. These tvs have a million inputs.

Straight composite is still a lot better than any LCD tv. Just don't direct compare to a PVM like I did and you can probably live with it.

It's just not fun. I gave it a shot. The game tricked me with little bits of fun but I don't have the motivation to play a 10 hour long game like this. N64 sucks smiley:::raspberry Back to NES for me.

Yeah fun is always a good thing to have if you're just "playing" games. But if you're a gamer for realsies you can't get too hung up on these arbitrary definitions that detract from being a gamer like "having fun" lol.

But seriously I don't blame you I have like ten copies of various call of duty games that I have yet to ever play (if ever) so you gotta do what makes you happy. At least you tried. 😊

Questions I've been asked on my listing (which I will link to here)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/152733798697?ssPageName=ST...

Now, I'm not sure how much less ambiguous I can be about this listing. However:

"whats the serial number". This is from the same fudging craphead who demanded that the serial numbers on the box and system for my legit system matched and wanted pictures, then paid after I told him to get lost, then immediately put in a cancellation request because he supposedly used his boss's credit card info but rescinded it after learning that yes, after he hit "submit" on the payment that I was, in fact, paid and the thing was on its way. And now he's asking about a fake serial number on a fake system.

Other golden ones:

"Does it have hdmi?" -Okay, I can see that. Answered.
(same guy) "Is the software the same as original classic nes? Does it have suspend state function?" - I answered "no" because honestly any more characters and I would have just started swearing.

I don't see how anyone can be in the business of selling clone hardware. This is the most exhausting, most popular, most unsold listing I've ever had.

ive sworn to only use it until i get it. im winning about a third of my matches with it or so, would be more probably if most online players didnt run as soon as you catch onto the three moves they know. most of the oppenents i felt like i could pick up the pad and push their crap in, but my hands just dont do well on the ds4 for long periods in tekken, and the stick hurts but in a different way at least, so im hoping thats just not being used to it and that gets better. that and im afraid going back to the pad will regress my progression on the stick. df still gives me trouble to do consisently but i am probably holding the stick wrong. i keep getting D or F but not DF consistenly, but its getting better .

it only seems to happen in fighters, probably pressing harder than i realize in the heat of the fight and the d pad inputs, hopefully not a sympton of carpal tunnel or something, i can play ghost recon or an rpg all day and not experience it.
