new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I love racing games and dont see the draw to fighting games. We all have different taste I suppose. But I've always liked real racing, rc racing, drag racing, etc, etc smile I think I've spent more money on RC Racing than videogames.

I liked gran turismo 1 a lot, that was so hyped up and built up in all the gaming mags and stuff and was pretty big. my cousin and I used to play some nascar on ps1. other than that, the draw really hasn't been there much for me either. I think the things mentioned before about the time and grinding, my game time is limited and I have to be a little choosey at times.

Really there isn't much grind. On games like horizon 3 you can even "rent a car" so you can use your friends car if all the cars you have suck. Most games allow you to specify stock or mod, so even then you can be racing on an even playing field.

Some games a wheel is required if you want to keep up with the top players (they are using them as well). There are a few games like Dirt Rally that are almost impossible to plat without a wheel. Sure you can get around just fine and win races, but you need the wheel to shave off those precious 1/10th of seconds needed to get the top times.

You know as a kid I loved them, but now that I have to play people online it just got old getting stomped over and over. I use to play Street Fighter II all the time. Then I got hooked on Killer Instinct 2/Gold. I would ride up to the arcade just to play that game. Then I got Street Fighter IV for 360 and even with the fight controller (@Lunar now owns) I still got stomped. I gave it one more try with Mortal Kombat X but more of the same.

i can hold my own on TEKKEN til i run into someone who clearly has a lot more time to play than i do lol. ive switched to a fight stick so that's a whole new world, my online rank has fallen since but i can tell its gonna make me better with time. i'll never be as good as some of those guys online or some of these streamers that are lucky enough to play hours a day but i still like it. i got away from them for years, and recently have had that interest stirred again, thanks to T7. i got the gran turismo ps4 demo but haven't tried it yet, maybe i will soon.

I love non realistic arcade type racing games myself IF I like the actual themes or the ideas of the game that is.

Like Diddy Kong Racing over Mario Kart all day every day. Or Mario Kart at the Disneyland Starcade over maybe every other arcade racer I've Ever played. I also loved Fatal Inertia on 360 it's a lot like Star Wars episode 1 Pod Racers only worse physics and great racing plus gorgeous racetracks.

Even though some people wouldn't consider them to be racing games Crazy Taxi and The Simpsons Road Rage games are great fun racing type of games too.

I'm extremely eclectic in my gaming tastes compared to most people but about the only games I'm not totally into are super realistic racers and call of duty type of shooters. I do sometimes like fantasy type fps games but I haven't bought into all the call of duty realistic military games.

@Lunar racing games with themes you like and people you LIKE competing with are fun sometimes in ways like fighting games are fun. You almost have to be eased into it. If you start off playing a racing simulator and you're not into watching racing for fun you're probably going to hate it, I'm not as into racing as other game types so I usually have to play something with cartoony graphics or pod racers (wipeout, fatal inertia, Star Wars pod racing) to play for long periods of time and still have fun.

Also there are racing sequences in the Gta games so being proficient at racing games is important for doing well as a criminal 😊

Just play the kind of racing games you like. Some people want pure arcade like you, others want pure sims, there are ones where you can modify parts etc... Just depends what you are looking for.

Speaking of fighting games have you guys seen this auction?

https://m.gametz.com/General_Marketplace/devans77-...

There's a couple of expensive disc only Capcom ps1 fighting games with some fairly low bids still. I had no idea how much they were worth when I bid a dollar on them 😊 This auction is worth checking out guys.

Of course they are different 😊

But still both racing games. I loved race driving or hard driving in the arcade I still can't remember which one I played. But it was a driving simulator only I think you could actually go into a roller coaster type loop. That was just so much fun playing a game like that back then. And I loved the graphics even though they would be considered awful now.

There are great things about Rock & Roll Racing too though, and that makes both games worth playing since you get a very different experience from each one. I just brought it up since I remembered talking about it with you and wondered which you preferred.

Racing games, I tend to go for the non realistic types myself. F-Zero and Diddy Kong Racing are my two favorites. Crusin' USA was fun in the arcades while taking a break from fighting games but nothing too serious for me. I've tried a few but the more realistic they are, the worse I am at playing them. Did enjoy Episode 1 Racer on the PC back in the day as well but didn't care for the console version. We'll see though as I ordered Gear Club Unlimited on Switch to give these types another go.

I really enjoy games like Micro Machines and Super Off Road, so Rock n Roll racing is more of the same.

Race Driving does have that loop. I'm not sure the game can actually be beaten can it? I think its just see how far you can get before time runs out.

Nothing so far. There were suggestions of a game on SNESC. I like Treasure Master but also don't mind a SNES gsme.

About racing games: benstylus is currently into F1 and so has been playing F1 2017 lately, but I definitely like stuff like Mario Kart, F-Zero, Outrun, and Daytona over the more realistic racing games. Though in my case, the latter 2 would be just "drive along to the music until the timer runs out" games. I've never been particularly good at Outrun or Daytona, but the music makes me feel better. smile

Taking things in a slightly different direction, I have a friend who is looking to get back into playing the Game Boy, so I am assembling a Game Boy Color bundle for her to go with the small handful of games she already has. I need ideas. Great Game Boy/Game Boy Color games for under $10: GO!

The cart connector is replacable. I had to order a replacement connector because he improved the design shortly after release (it was a penny plus shipping). So long as RetroUSB is alive I'm sure you could get one if you needed it.

maybe interested in the rock controller if you decided not to keep it, but if you want to keep the set together I get that. if the ds4 works well maybe that's what I should just do as I have an extra, I even have the ps1 gray one I could use to get a more ps1 like experience lol. ds4 is so comfortable as well.

I left neutral before I forgot how badly they fudgeed up, but yeah, power sellers and having to wait 7 days to crap talk them is kinda dumb. I think the insinuation is that within 7 days they expect the seller to properly resolve any potential points of contention, but some sellers are insatiable.

Not new though. I think it's just reserved for certain sellers; the hope is that the buyer forgets to leave feedback at all.

Cool. Speaking of Japanese sellers. I just bought Criminal Girls for $25 shipped from a Japanese seller. From my limited experience from Japanese sellers they are very conservative with their condition estimate. Most of the Japanese described "good" condition boxes could be considered very good or like new. I'm talking about SFC listings vs. SNES listings.

Agree. Lots of Japanese sellers that do full pics and great descriptions. Just avoid the bs stock photo sellers and you'll be good.

Due to the insane increase in interest in Japanese games we are seeing the bad condition games finally come out for sale more. Back in the day just about everything I bought from Japan for Dreamcast was mint. The stuff that wasn't mint and had some sunfade or whatnot was extremely discounted in comparison.

Probably because everything from Japan is in such nice condition. The worst I ever get is a Famicom game with a name written on it or the occasional one that's been dragged through the mud. Almost every disc game is in great shape.

Compare that to the N64 section at literally any game shop, gross.

Did you guys see the Super Nt is shipping with a Director's Cut edition of Super Turrican now? It's just a ROM built into the console (you also get Super Turrican 2 which is pretty cool IMO).

The funniest part is it comes with an empty box so you can put it on your shelf and pretend you have this game that doesn't exist. What is it with companies putting out empty boxes? The appeal of physical games isn't just having crap to display on a shelf.

Ask anyone who's hoarded games over the decades and you'll understand how mistaken you are. $50-200 reproductions and an actual, flourishing market for producing "real-looking" bootlegs demonstrate how mistaken you are.

Just come to the understanding that our hobby is now vile and soulless and propagated by disgusting dumpster trolls who take more pictures of their shelves than they play games anymore. That will help to explain how the empty box is included in your $200 fake SNES.

Sort of on topic, people selling "Custom" manuals for insane amounts?

I ran across this posting last night, and was floored. 73 dollars for a fake SNES manual? And people actually buy these? Scrolling through this seller's sold listings, I could not believe people were paying so much for these print outs. Am I missing something? Should I buy a nice printer ASAP and start selling fake manuals?

You're right, best to have a healthy mix of both you'll never play just in case one gets obliterated.

Hip hip hooray! Wait... is this something really to cheer over? Not that I have much room to talk...

As for repros, I only buy them cheaply. I don't pretend they're the real thing, and if there is a real game, I won't repro it.

Yeah, this is what I meant. No worrying about weird things, and yeah, a flashcart might be more practical for a bunch, but I still like the look of the games on my shelves. I've got legit SFC carts for a bunch of them also, so...

Just recently that guy on facebook happily buying bootlegs for $20 a pop off Etsy used the logic that it's easier on his wallet and looks just as good on his shelf.

I'll be sure to report on it. The decent looking PCE compatible sticks are just so pricey. I can't remember if I got a PS1/2 connector for my custom stick or not but PS1 sticks are a dime a dozen so it's not a big issue.

I honestly like the TG16/PCE controllers. I feel like they are more comfortable than their NES counterparts. Also when browsing that website I saw the Famicom Doctor 6+ I just won that thing in an auction and had no idea what to do with it. Now I will use it's adapter on my TG-16.

That is a great point. Thinking about it what is you guys favorite retro controller? I am leaning towards the Sega Saturn model 2 controller but also really like the Dual Shock 1.

My favorite controllers to use are the NES brick, SNES, and second Saturn controller. PCE d-pads are too tiny. Genesis controllers themselves are either too big or too small. Lots of terrible ones besides those few.

Pretty crisp boxes, small tear on Dr. Mario on one side and some crusty tape holding Mendel Palace that I just took off that has left slightly crusty residue on the box but overall I'd put these boxes at G/VG+ or better . Everything but Air Fortress includes manual, but Air Fortress DOES include a HAL Poster and the Nintendo Power yellow card inside.

Mmm.... eBay pricing, about the lowest general price I could find on everything was $195 (I'm sure I spent more), but I think I might be able to do a steal price on these within reason. If interested, please send an offer. Just keep in mind, graciously if you will, that I'm trying to come up with $280ish total and the more I get back on this stuff the less stuff I'll have to sell off! But obviously $195's way more than I'd ask for.

Let me know how tactics ogre is I've always wanted it 😊 I even had ogre battle 64 with a box but I couldn't test it so I left it at a friends house with a n64 and have no idea whatever happened to it. Probably stolen. Anything with ogre in the title sounds good to me but I've got terrible luck with those games 😄

Nice score on that switch case btw, that's something that's great to get used when you can 😊

Agreed, and even if you wait like 6 months most games drop like 40% any ways and you can use GCU to get it even cheaper.

Yeah, I get being cheap. I am still waiting to get Ys VIII myself. But if I had been willing to spend $44, I'd have just bought it new. I actually had it at $43 since I snagged the pre-order at the lowest price it went to on Amazon before cancelling it.

Yea I buy new too. But only through Best Buys GCU. I am getting Mario on Friday for like 38 bucks because of the visa checkout thing at the beining of the year.

I am very aware of the typical quality on NISA's work. On the bright side things can be patched now. Unlike, say, game breaking bugs on their PS2 games...

Prime is a no brainer. Free streaming stuff and the free two day shipping on everything is really nice.

I still have my grandfathered share slots filled so it's even less for me. Plus whenever something arrives late all I have to do is message Amazon and I get another month or two for free.

I thought it was only $30 total. They prorated as well if you have a current pur.

It works really well for old used games. For example most wii u games are still pricey. With 20% off used prices I can buy allot of them cheaper than ebay.

Allot of their used prices are already good, and this makes them better. As I said before I've had several people just recently not sell me a game because they didn't want to beat (or match) GS price.

Amazon is failing on games of late, at least with Switch game shipping delays and the whole SNESC debacle with sourcing. I actually was in a GameStop last week and did the Elite Pro thing ($29.99) in the hopes they'd do another one of those extra 60% trade in things or similar sometime in the next year. It's worth trying for a year to see if/how much I use it which I'm sure won't be anywhere near GCU but we'll see how it goes.

You can buy 1 game for 3 stores, then return them all and re buy with the the b2g1. I've done that allot.

It's not going to take long for them to bake this discount into their prices.

Also I know some people exploit Gamestop trade-ins for huge profit and will even rebuy the games if the manager will let them but that's not worth my time and effort.

ya i am still in a grandfathered share for prime, i wish i was the main though because the share slots cant stream and use the full gamut of prime but the discounts and free shipping are worth the 15 bucks for sure.

and ya @Gypsy i love Nisa for bringing us games we wouldn't get otherwise, but wish the quality of certain things was higher. maybe if they would put as much thought and work into translations as they do expensive baubles for collectors editions lol. a lot of people complain about "day one patches geez i just wanna play" or patches in general, but coming from the before time when patches weren't possible i think we are lucky to have the ability to patch. back then if it was broke it was just broke and that was that.

Yeah. I too have just told people here to go buy something from Gamestop when they try to get me to price match them. Sales are bad enough but I've had people try to do it with inappropriately priced older games that were in stock at approximately 0 Gamestop stores across the country.

I sold the set(dangan 1 and 2 plus another episode) for 70 on ebay. No hard feelings but it was just easier for me to move the set together and also get a higher return.

When it comes to GameStop's promotional sales, I do that, like, all the time. In fact, it was only with this most recent sale of theirs that I actually found everything I was looking for -- complete and mint -- in one storefront. Every other time, I always have to look online for the desired product and store availability, call ahead to check it's condition and reserve it, then make my rounds and buy them individually from each location before finally returning them all at the last store and buying it all back to receive the discount. While it can be a bit "labor intensive," the discount is easily worth my minimal time and driving investments. smile

Yeah there are some patched carts for some games but those are few and far between. Also only from bigger companies I think.

Games are more complicated now and I know PS3 architecture was a mess, can't speak to PS4. When I played RDR I somehow compiled game data in a way that the game bugged out 100% of the time after a certain event. Thankfully patching it did solve the issue and I finished the game.

The no stock thing was more about PS2/Gamecube/PSP and rarer PS3 titles before they implemented their ELITE RETRO ONLINE SHOPPE. So like, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance was still $24.99 in their system and yeah you can guess how many Gamestops had a CIB copy in stock for that price.

Even just for disc games. I know Gamestop has tons of complete copies of Wii, 360, and PS3 games, and some old games have good prices especially during sales. But I don't want to do the dance of ordering and returning when it's disc only. I would have ordered twice as many Wii games in the 4-for-10 sale if I knew they'd come complete.

They'd have to separate the stock which would require that they actually acknowledge that they CAN choose to look at an item before shipping it out, they just choose not to.

I think most stuff you order during sales would just be refunded. Obviously they've got some cases but how long you think that's gonna last after they start this "give us money to actually do our jobs" crap. Two months? Three?

See, that's already time and money terribly spent unless you're after $50+ games, when you could just sit on your ass, order off eBay and know precisely what you're getting before you slap money down.

I don't know why anyone would be interested in giving Gamestop money for something they should be doing anyways. But that's probably why all these "Elite" subscriptions do so well. Because lots of people do.

Its not too bad. 15 was an exaggeration. With careful planning I can visit 5 GS with very little out of the way driving.

I'd rather buy from here or in store. Haven't had great luck on eBay. For example that ToS @Gypsy got from me was supposed to be excellent condition. Ask him if it is smile

the vita versions of disgaea 3 and 4 are on sale on the psn store, are they that much improved or add that much extra content over their ps3 brothers? it says it has extra chapters but are they worth double or triple the cost of the ps3?

disgaea 3 ps3 is 3.99, and D3 vita is 11.99, as is D4, D4 ps3 doesn't appear to be on sale oddly there is a lot NISA on this sale. the vita ones they are typically 29.99 so its got me looking at it like it maybe worth it if there is a ton of content there. disgaea D2 ps3 is on sale for 12.99 as well.

I think im gonna grab all three and trade my ps3 versions to offset it a little.

on a side note, there is another big sale on, lots of resident evil. and the legacy of kain ps1 games are 1.19

Something to keep in mind with the OSSC and scanline generation is if your tv has 4:2:0 color subsampling it's going to look washed out. Not sure if this is happening in @RobotVendingMachine pic as it is not a screen capture.

If you have scanlines on with 4:2:0 the problem is it sees the regular saturation but it also sees the solid black lines and "fixes" it by balancing stuff out/averaging the values. 4:2:0 is necessary for other crap though, like streaming.

That's assuming they didn't take a legit box and stuff it with a fake, mind you. You won't know for sure until you look at it (are the 1 and 2 too far apart?) or turn it on (does the menu music sound like a cellphone recording and are the games in pages instead of infinite looping, and does it say "Please wait" with a rotating circle when loading a game?)

When you take into account the burning medium (if they're actually Tayo Yuden), the print work... $22 doesn't seem awful. It's still about 22 times more expensive than doing it yourself and just playing it instead of trying to trick your shelf.

There is some really nice stuff on Etsy I agree. I am not one for buying repro games when you can just burn them yourself, but I have picked up some nice quality manuals and back art recently. I don't pretend its the real thing, but it looks a lot nicer than those custom dvd sized cases on my shelf. Prices are very reasonable given what I would pay for the real thing and these are games I plan on hanging onto.

did the listing say NO JAILBARS? There is def an issue with gen/cd/ with jailbars some times. So much so that he specifically makes a no jailbars version. I don't know the inner workings of it, but it did work for me. As I got jailbars with just cheap $5 chinese cables then returned them and tried his. No jailbars. Or if they are there they are extremely faint.

Yeah just talk to him/her and they will be more than willing to work with you.

Genesis 2, 32X, and CDX just have jailbars. Smarter people can say whether it's weak signal due to PCB design or just the amp they used, but electronics are hard. You can totally get around it by replacing the RGB amp. I also got one of those no jailbars cables and it seems to work just fine, whatever it does.

http://retrorgb.com/genesisrgbbypass.html

Apparently you can also remove C28, which will ruin composite/s-video/RF but also lessen jailbars.

Also posted on their facebook page is that they will taking orders the 2017 Xmas cart in the next few weeks! I'm thinking it won't arrive by Christmas. Let's keep this topic updated if anyone hears anything! secret santa

Such a pessimistic bunch! lol

It's scanned now. But I doubt it's gonna be here today. Prob tomorrow.

I am more worried about the actual system being fake since there is no actual pic.

There are pictures of the board of the NESC on the net. If you are having a hard time figuring it out I would open it up and compare that, but I doubt it will be that difficult to spot if it is a fake.

He's had an NESC before, he'll be able to turn it on and immediately know. It's very obvious. Right from the main screen it looks and sounds like crap. The quick eyes-only tell is that the 1 and 2 above the control ports are too far away.

If you want to know what a fake NESC looks like, I've got photos on the one I sold here.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/152733798697?ssPageName=S...

Quick tell: Fake looks like this.
image

Real one looks like this:

image

They're not even the same colors. The real one's very clean white-like, the off-brand kinda looks like someone smoked on it for a couple years. The big tell, like I said, is the numbers above the control ports.

So, the fake ones look like most NES look now, but the real ones look like they did when we all got them back in the 80s

My biggest problem is the "I don't know how to draw hands so instead of git guddering I'll just hide them" crap

But directly following that, the "not really a hedgehog, seems to have bat or fox ears actually" crap

My biggest problem is that Matthew Hedgehog is 21 years old, swapped bodies with his daughter, but has huge boobs. How old is his daughter exactly?

Edit: Sorry he swapped bodies with Lucy. I got my canon mixed up.

@Gypsy Actually, I did some horrendous Twitter surfing, first from checking the Twitter that Mario Odyssey2 shoop came from, which linked to the official Sonic Hedgehog twitter, which linked to those fudging disastrous Funco POP monstrosities, which got DG to link me to https://twitter.com/badsonicfanart which had some entries for said challenge, which was obviously stolen because of its superior lole content. Was gonna post in General but decided to keep it in-crowd only.

Too bad no one here is named Ron 😉

So I looked that up since I figured someone else would anyways.

I think everyone should just change their first name to "Baby Pygmy" or "Baby Pudu" for this so everyone can have an adorable wonderful day 😍

Those funkos were truly awful but the kicker is, ALL FUNKOS ARE AWFUL. They have to be the biggest scam running right now. I wouldn't take one for free. Aaaand of course now whoever gets me for SS is going to toss in a Funko.

I kinda like the Sailor Moon ones, but given the option between a POP and a plushie, I'd go with the plushie.

Plushies are fun. I have plushies and actual figures. My favourite plushie is probably Carbuncle (of Puyo fame).

I just got Rosita from The Walking Dead Funko Pop and she's awesome!!! And so are my two Harley Quinn Funkos 😍

I still might get some Buffy Funko pops but probably just the Gentleman since so many human looking pops look exactly the same.

I even have Garbage Pail Kid Funko Pops. Which are also awesome and gross and super cute 😆 You guys are just haters 😉

Well this is lame, I can't update the PSP because there is no battery. It's plugged in so why do I need a battery? So I guess I won't be trying Tactics Ogre any time soon. Apparently the battery went bad since the last time I used it.

I looked it up, all models require a battery 3 bars/80% full.

I just found an envelope with some loose ps1 games, i think i saw crash bash and twisted metal and a FF demo disk. I thought the envelope was just used for packing, but now I have no idea who it was from.

Im pretty sure is one of our RTT regulars, thanks very much for the extras!

So I have to install custom firmware just to install the sony firmware without a battery?

Batteries are cheap on eBay, but every seller I check has multiple negatives for batteries not holding a charge.
