new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Got this up if anyone needs one of these beauts:

My Duo-R with 2 controllers
Console has 2 upgrades : 1= switch JPN or USA hu card reading, 2= RGB or A\V output.

The rest of the games I've got for sale are:

Sapphire (2nd print) with the card it takes to run it
Vasteel in mint shape
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Gate of Thunder
Dragon Slayer
Y's 1 & 2
Mysterious Song
Bonk's Adventure

Only trades I'd consider would be for a Switch bundle, or a few odds and ends I don't have.

Let me know if you need one gents!

Is your available list near complete? I can take a look. I might be extending my PS1, and Genesis want lists. As far as MKR I would prefer to sell it here, and I think I will. Because F&F saves about what, $15 or so? lol.

@Dashey, how much can you get as trade in for a Xbox One S 500gb towards a PS4 Pro, there's a promo going on that says up to $350 toward PS4 Pro.

I am assuming GameStop is smart and wants something like a Xbox One X for $350 towards PS4 Pro

Tonight's agenda: ęm҉͞ù͟l̵̢á̴ţ̴ơr practice of Jaquio. I don't want to run through 6-2 and 6-3 more than one per game anymore.

Spinslash one-shots the first phase of Jaquio. After that you're on your own.

The strategy for Jaquio 2 seems to just be "be amazing". Just need lots of practice to learn when it's safe to get a hit in. Jaquio 1 is easy to mash through.

I'm going for dodge the fireballs, attack sparingly. There's also a weird thing you can do by getting knocked into a crouching position on the top of the left wall, but you have to get intentionally hit to get up there which is to dangerous for this noob right now.

I'm pretty good at 3. I wouldn't call myself "good" at NG1. I certainly can't beat Jaquio 2 every time. I never play NG2 lols.

6-1 is almost harder the get through without getting stopped than 6-2 and 6-3. I can almost clear 6-3 without damage, at least before the final part. I know you're trying to cut your time and breeze through all three bosses in a row but there's almost too much that can happen randomly on the second one. I feel the same way about the first form too, but I did beat the first form the first time without spinslash for sure. The third boss is the one you need to practice on. Just master 6-1 through 6-3 and also the final form and do two run throughs of 6-1through 6-3.

First run through beat boss form 1, second run through spinslash boss form two and beat boss form 3 with easy timing. Just take it slow on boss form 3 and don't get over aggressive. If you wait and time your jumps you can finish the third one without any Ninpo just smart safe attacks.

The random shrimps from J3 are tougher than J2 at this point. In just a couple hours of practice, I'm at the point where I can beat J2 every time. Not super fast, but way faster than running through Act 6 all over. With bad luck (and bad reaction time) on J3, I'm still occasionally dying, although not often. J2's fireballs do 1 bit of damage and are predictable/controllable. You can mess up literally a dozen times without dying.

Eh. Best option if you can't avoid the balls is to eat a death and run back with the diagonal flames and full Ninpo. You should practice that until you can feel out the pattern.

1 and 3's design could be described broadly as puzzle and flow. Any tough section has a super smooth path through it. NG2's design is more like "Take a hit dog 🖕🖕" and has some anti-fun gimmicks like wind and water that moves against you that just slows down you movement. It's still a fun challenge, just not something I want to replay over and over.

Of course it is but what are you doing to practice against specific bosses?

Like a save state right at each boss? Like I said I was at a point where I was practically flying through all of stage 6 to get to each boss. I gave my retron to my brother with over 10 games including ninja Gaiden 1 and one of the Lolos and Castlevania so I would have to get another copy of it but even if I did it might be hard to upload a run through. Not that it would help you but I can't even devise any new strategies for you to try out either.

Yes, I have a save state before each boss raspberry I'm not playing through a half hour game in between each attempt, that's why I suck in the first place!

Anyone who can beat Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania 1 and Pulseman does not suck. It doesn't matter what help you get from the Internet either because you still have to play through those games with your own skills and dexterity and what have you.

But that being said if you want a world record time I'll help you if and when I can and I'm sure you or Lunar or maybe even DD can do it. I'm not very good with the first five stages since I forget things but stage 6 is totally doable.

Too little too late, these guys are assclowns and craplords. That entire outfit is suspect, you'd have to get rid of everyone, including (especially?) Mruczek and Walter Day. Taking down a handful of high scores isn't even hardly a start. Nobody who knows better will ever take TG seriously again as it stands.

I think it took me like 5 hours to beat Castlevania III. Just because I can bash my head at the wall until the wall breaks, doesn't mean I'm good at breaking walls. Again not going for any records or even speed runs. I just think playing a game here and there would be more fun if it's quick and I didn't get sent back smile

The current Robotron Marathon record ends in an 80, for a game that hands out scores in 25-point increments. Why would anyone care about any of these scores, whether it's malice or incompetence.

Giving you "free" blitz attacks helps a little, but its difficult to build up and maintain the star level . I think the damage you do vs. the damage you receive is the biggest issue with this game. It wouldn't matter so much if you plowed through everybody, but due to the sheer amount of enemies and how easily they can gang up and interrupt your non blitz movies its like a fine art just making it to the end of the level on the same life. The placement of health items and 1 ups is much stingier too it seems. I want to load up BKIII for comparisons sake as I have heard its a much more enjoyable experience.

So, shockingly, the only licensed av repair shop within 70 miles is right next to the only CRT repair place within 70 miles. Unfortunately, even this 60+ year old guy that has been doing this basically his whole life can't really source the parts to fix my monitor. image 2-3 week turnaround time on my amp, which I kind of expected when I walked in and saw easily 50+ receivers, amps etc...
