new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Also why the hell has no one else brought up ANY Twisted Metal or even Wipeout games?

Again shut the fudge up with that true fans stuff if you can't even finish a game without someone telling you how to.

I haven't bothered playing the RE games since Code Veronica since there was a huge span of time where all my gaming was literally games I was playing with gfs or homegirls or whatever and then I wasn't gaming like at all because I was too sick and tired from work all the time. So in that time I missed RE4 and haven't caught up since then. But once I actually play 4 it's all downhill from there since I have a copy of 5 here I've been really wanting to play. I just don't want to miss any important plot points from 3 and 4. I also have 6 but I'm not sure I am even interested in it or not.

How about this if someone wants to talk crap about great resident evil games because of game mechanics he can't play easy mode on and says they suck and True Fans know what's up then yeah I'll call him out on his bullcrap every effin time?!?

How about that?

But seriously this would be a sad matchup I'd be the only person voting for tenchu and then be stuck having to (finally) play a metal gear game.

5 is a legit pretty great game. The Mercenaries mode in it is the best in the series. 6 was not as good main game or mercs imo, but still worth playing. I would play any of these over the old RE games which are a relic of a bygone era that didn't hold up and aren't fun to go back to imo. I'm sure people replay and enjoy them all the time though, because it's okay if people like different things.

Damn man, what was my controversial opinion today even? That I got bored of RE1? frown Is it so hard to believe someone didn't make it all the way through that game?

I watched a lot as a kiddo back in the Attitude era. Lots of awesome personalities/characters like the Rock and Stone Cold.

Oh well if it's like that then I think I apologize if that was indeed how you meant it. I am sorry if that is the case sir!

I have nothing against 5 (for the record) it's the only recent besides 7 and operation raccoon city I've actually really been looking forward to playing. I still unfortunately have to play through 4 first.

I have very fond memories of many games from many systems, but so much of it just hasn't aged well, and the early 3d era of ps1 and n64 is by far the worst for me. its not even the jaggy and clippy graphics, its also in how they "feel".

ORC is terrible. Legit one of the worst games I've ever played. 4 is a gaming masterpiece.

I've probably posted these exact words/thoughts a few times before but since we are on the topic again... I feel like that early 3D era, a lot of devs were struggling and still discovering how to make 3D games that were actually fun to play. That's a big part of why so many titles are brutal to go back to now. So most of these bad early 3D games were simply a necessary evil. Mario 64 revolutionized and defined fun 3D platforming. It was a huge step in the right direction. I have zero issues going back to early 3D games that actually play well.

Looks interesting, although I don't have a way to play JP PS1 games. Looks like some of the minigames made its way to the WTF game that BleedingViolet has mentioned.

I was thinking about another segment to add to RTT, it will be a different thing than GotM.

It will be a challenge where we attack a series. It will be over the span of a few months(depending on how many are in the series), and we play it sequentially.

I say we just add a high score game each month.

After we beat the first game in a series, people would be planning the next 3 series we're going to run through, lol.

@Gypsy same, we had to go through those times to get here. if a game is still good and "feels" good, I don't mind playing it now either, I have several ps1 games I missed out on back then on my things I want to play over the next couple of years list. (you know your backlog is crazy when the attack plan is multi year lol)

@lunar that's an interesting thought, could be fun if the load is manageable. I probably play more modern stuff than some here in RTT, but I def have a lot of backlog stuff something like that could help in attacking, perhaps others as well

Yep. Also it seems like a tall task given that people often run up against the deadline for GOTM.

Let's try a high score game this month.

@Gypsy picks a game and @DefaultGen picks another game, we vote on it to be our high score game!

I was thinking for example Resident Evil. So many times I've tried to do the sequential thing. I don't even remember if I beat 6 or not.

We designate 1 game a month and it will be a long term challenge. We could all use some time management skills sharpening lol

Well RE is a bit too long, so probably something with 3 games to start. It will be a 3 month challenge.

I just don't see how most of the thread members would have enough time to do it. It's an interesting idea though.

Well, that's true haha. But if you are serious about it, it's a long term challenge, so you could allocate a weekend and beat them all if you want. Not that most of us can afford that, but it could very well be a thing.
I mean, I am surprised how many people set aside time to play GotM, myself included. There is definitely an invisible force pushing us forward when it's a communal group challenge.

And there won't be any pressure(well, there will be just a tiny bit fun type of pressure, as you will be rewarded with an icon! if you beat the challenge smile)

You can just play 1 or 2 if you don't finish, not the worst thing. But hey look at that, you beat the first 2 of the series!

I've driven further for a game, lol. Even with gas it would be much cheaper than eBay prices.

Well there is one 27 miles from me. But I might just end up paying the $70 if I can run accross someone who finishes it and sells and open copy. Play-Asia says they are awaiting more stock on 2-10. We'll see if that means if they actually GET the SE in stock. But I'm keeping an eye on bb, azon, gs, and pa over the next few days to see if anyone gets the SE back in stock.
