new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

thanks, ill get on ebay later and look for that.

I sometimes get notifications from the app on those 15 off 75 or 20% off x amount etc. they seem app specific and you have to use the app to do them, but they have helped me pick up some of the pricier guides from my wanted list recently like the huge witcher complete one.

10 percent is definitely gas if you got anything north of $200. The $15 off flash sales are cool but it started feeling like I was buying subpar crap at subpar prices just to hit that $75 mark

Even 6% was nice on that amp I got. I was buying that anyway so just kinda lucky there was a promo.

I feel you on those sales. Stuff gets hit pretty hard once they start too.

Last month was $10 off $50 and in limited quantities (i.e. gone in an hour). The 20th-26th of the month is still the time range to keep your eye out.

need some space and comtemplating an auction.

will probably also add some stuff to my freebie forum listing, but will throw a heads up when I get to that

auctions are fun, so was thinking about going that route instead of messing with a sales post and then ebaying what doesn't go, and it clears out the space.

was thinking of even making it more fun by doing a couple mystery items that the order gets free shipping, or 10% off or something like that.

I would have to buy some new boxes bc the boxes I had were so big it was $50 shipped. So I'm not sure $25+ shipping? Won't know until I try.

I need some help.

I bought an autographed copy of .hack for $25 and I'm a bit concerned now if it's real or fake. Can I get some advice?

I bought it from a store online and they said Hiroshi Matsuyama signed it.

That seems really hard to prove.

This is his twitter: https://twitter.com/piroshi_cc2?lang=en

Only thing I can think of is to try asking him but his whole profile is in Japanese so I have no idea how his English would be.

Who cares enough to fake a Japanese autograph on a European game of a living dude barely anyone cares about raspberry According to Google he's been at Wondercon, NYCC, a bunch of Japanese things, it's not like his autograph is impossible to get. In an age where there's a game con every 2 weeks and they all have half a dozen autograph sessions, I don't think autographs are really worth anything.

As for autographs... I've got a few miyamoto autographs that I'm pretty sure make the things they're on worth quite a bit more

Don't feel too bad, I was super depressed most of last month and only finished two games and never even played Shining Force 1 or 2 or Streets of Rage 2 (I played it a little in December though) even though I wanted to play all of them in January.

Saturn of course is better with sprite handling. But SFC for Saturn is like $100 + CIB so not worth it at all in my opinion.
This particular SFC is actually just SSF II, SSF II Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold

There are definitely other ways to play them. Alpha has a Alpha Collection on PlayStation 2 which is like $10 new.

SSFII Turbo HD Remix on PSN and XBL should cover the other 2 games.

Actually before mk9 came out I used to play sf2 turbo on 360 Xbox live it was super fun and competitive. I tried mastering a dragon punch on that dpad and ended up switching from Ken to E Honda (my second character) as my full time main. There's nothing like walking forward with hundred hand slap (which was removed by ssf2 turbo) and wearing people down with hardcore chip damage lol.

Either way that MIGHT be my favorite version of Street Fighter all time anyways. They really made some of the character drawings look terrible and too cartoony in later versions.

The problem with this is how do we determine "beating" an old sports game. Maybe it could be the high score game though.

Do you really want to play an old sports game for let's play together?

Most of the people with newer systems here (PS4, Xbox one, Switch) never seem to talk about sports games. Let alone older games. Although I do remember someone saying that DonLad would be found buried alive under 100s of copies of John Madden football cib Genesis games months ago 😉

I'm down for RayForce or RayStorm. With the latter being a bit cheaper. Both are excellent shooters.

Nothing good on Sega Dreamcast is really accessible I'd say, well maybe the first GigaWing if you get a Japanese copy. I guess everybody could just burn any Sega Dreamcast game but I am working under the assumption that you meant cheaper to get legally.

Yeah I really did, I'm planning on getting the eenternet one day I'm just lagging it since I spend every free extra dollar buying stuff on gametz.

But I like most of you love having actual copies of stuff 😊 I had to use my everdrive for pulseman but everything else (except for Streets of Rage 2 and 3 also everdrive) I played a legit copy of. Also I played Mega Man X on ps2.

Which is the other great thing about psone games they're all playable on ps2 which almost everyone has one or the other.

And if worse comes to worse we can always have someone else "get us" a disc only copy from their computers 😉 For 10 cents.

I feel like RayForce (Layer Section/Galactic Attack*) needs to be in the mix here. It's the right mix of top tier while also being affordable. Anyone that likes shooters needs to play it, imo. Now, what do we run up against it in the vote? Are we dead set on doing a shmup or do we want a different genre for voting purposes. We should probably wait a bit longer before doing the poll, so just some stuff to think about.

*So stupid that this game has three official names.

This means I gotta track down who played and who didn't.

Increase in voting power needs to be a pro-active action, the player needs to tell RTT they beat it.

Starting the game is easy lol, finishing is the hard part.

4. Tomb Raider 1
5. Resident Evil 1

The next two (three?) are just for fun

6. Koudelka
7. Deception 2 or 3 (I love killing evil people with that little girl)

I'm sure I'm forgetting a million awesome games but I was seriously hoping we could play a brand new retro shooter (at least new for me anyways) if Resident Evil is put up against a shooter I doubt a shooter will win though.

Actually that's another easy part, I thought the end boss was way cheaper. Plus the first time you meet the twins is kinda cake because you can still special them to death. It's more about proper timing on that standing back kick.

I actually liked playing against the twins even when I couldn't call for backup lol.

I was definitely not forgetting the blandest, easiest (albeit longest more or less which makes it harder to finish since you might fall asleep) game in the Castlevania franchise.

But if that were put up I would still play it. It's still Castlevania which to me means it's better than almost any other games in any other series but I still would be sitting there daydreaming I was playing a more challenging and fun Castlevania lol.

Like I seriously beat Castlevania 1, maybe two or three times in a loop one day. Since I wanted to beat "hard" mode and see if it got harder again. It did not.

I also beat Ninja Gaiden two or three times. Mostly because it helps my sharpen my timing on other games. And because it's such a fun game!

Arc II is kinda massive though. It even has a full game prologue (Arc 1, which is like a 10-13 hour game). But it's like, the right kind of massive and hits all the right notes for me. I played through it recently long after I quit playing/loving JRPGs as much. It really brought me back and had me by the balls.

I have to strongly disagree. In my opinion, 6 leveled the plane off in the greatness. 7 had the pilot thrust the stick all the way forward (for those who don't know, that is a sharp downward), telling the passengers to look at the pretty graphics! 8 was the pilot breaking the stick off in the forward position, saying, no, look, as the plane crashed into the ground. 9 tried pulling the stick back, only to have 10 crash it back down. And the FF series never got back off the ground, though they keep trying to fix the plane..

Wtf? I HAVE TO vote Silent Hill by default against RE2 just because the first (and coincidentally also Code Veronica and probably RE3 which I never got to finish so I can't really confirm that theory) is SO much better than it.

Also any tomb raider (even 2) gets my vote over anything else basically. Lara Croft is just one of the best main characters ever! And the physics while climbing way high up on tomb raider games actually induce my vertigo so there is that. It's kinda cool despite getting dizzy from playing a video game.

Again shut the fudge up with that true fans stuff if you can't even finish a game without someone telling you how to.

I haven't bothered playing the RE games since Code Veronica since there was a huge span of time where all my gaming was literally games I was playing with gfs or homegirls or whatever and then I wasn't gaming like at all because I was too sick and tired from work all the time. So in that time I missed RE4 and haven't caught up since then. But once I actually play 4 it's all downhill from there since I have a copy of 5 here I've been really wanting to play. I just don't want to miss any important plot points from 3 and 4. I also have 6 but I'm not sure I am even interested in it or not.

5 is a legit pretty great game. The Mercenaries mode in it is the best in the series. 6 was not as good main game or mercs imo, but still worth playing. I would play any of these over the old RE games which are a relic of a bygone era that didn't hold up and aren't fun to go back to imo. I'm sure people replay and enjoy them all the time though, because it's okay if people like different things.

I have very fond memories of many games from many systems, but so much of it just hasn't aged well, and the early 3d era of ps1 and n64 is by far the worst for me. its not even the jaggy and clippy graphics, its also in how they "feel".

I've probably posted these exact words/thoughts a few times before but since we are on the topic again... I feel like that early 3D era, a lot of devs were struggling and still discovering how to make 3D games that were actually fun to play. That's a big part of why so many titles are brutal to go back to now. So most of these bad early 3D games were simply a necessary evil. Mario 64 revolutionized and defined fun 3D platforming. It was a huge step in the right direction. I have zero issues going back to early 3D games that actually play well.

I was thinking about another segment to add to RTT, it will be a different thing than GotM.

It will be a challenge where we attack a series. It will be over the span of a few months(depending on how many are in the series), and we play it sequentially.

@Gypsy same, we had to go through those times to get here. if a game is still good and "feels" good, I don't mind playing it now either, I have several ps1 games I missed out on back then on my things I want to play over the next couple of years list. (you know your backlog is crazy when the attack plan is multi year lol)

@lunar that's an interesting thought, could be fun if the load is manageable. I probably play more modern stuff than some here in RTT, but I def have a lot of backlog stuff something like that could help in attacking, perhaps others as well

I was thinking for example Resident Evil. So many times I've tried to do the sequential thing. I don't even remember if I beat 6 or not.

We designate 1 game a month and it will be a long term challenge. We could all use some time management skills sharpening lol

Well RE is a bit too long, so probably something with 3 games to start. It will be a 3 month challenge.

Well, that's true haha. But if you are serious about it, it's a long term challenge, so you could allocate a weekend and beat them all if you want. Not that most of us can afford that, but it could very well be a thing.
I mean, I am surprised how many people set aside time to play GotM, myself included. There is definitely an invisible force pushing us forward when it's a communal group challenge.

And there won't be any pressure(well, there will be just a tiny bit fun type of pressure, as you will be rewarded with an icon! if you beat the challenge smile)

You can just play 1 or 2 if you don't finish, not the worst thing. But hey look at that, you beat the first 2 of the series!

Well there is one 27 miles from me. But I might just end up paying the $70 if I can run accross someone who finishes it and sells and open copy. Play-Asia says they are awaiting more stock on 2-10. We'll see if that means if they actually GET the SE in stock. But I'm keeping an eye on bb, azon, gs, and pa over the next few days to see if anyone gets the SE back in stock.

I think OutRun 2006 should be the same for the basic OutRun mode, which is on PS2 and PSP. There's also a PC port.

If it was worth the gas I'd go get it for you.

@WithinTemptation I've actually been out that way twice someone recently. Once to pick up a top tier CRT monitor for free and the other time to get my power amp repaired. I have no problem going far for something I want but having to schedule time to do it when it would be for someone else and gas cost would kill any deal I could give makes it a no go. :(

I started playing ORC since I figured it wasn't part of the main series ..... I still mean to try it again one day but I'm not into fps games which I'm not really Sure what ORC is but it felt like that to me.

At least with GTA V and San Andreas that's not the whole game and it's pretty simplified compared to an actual FPS.

Keep looking at it on eBay then. It won't likely pop up for $250, let alone $200 in the collector infested wildwest like GTZ.

Unless it's a really beat up copy.

Thats a bit ironic, my existing PM disc I traded in along with Fire Emblem POR, a small Nintendo GameCube lot I posted earlier in the thread and a 250gb xb360 slim w/controller, cost me $35 on fb, for a barely used neon switch bundle myself. Pretty good for not having played in awhile. The image itself is about the main deck those cards are played in.

The individual cards are Thalia, Quirion Ranger, Tendrils of Agony (also yes that storm card that drains 2 life), Leovold Emissary of Trest (this was a pretty recent card), Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, Goblin Charbelcher, Terminus (it is in fact a wrath, for a single white mana under the right conditions...), Delver of Secrets (3/2 flier flip guy) and fudging Show and Tell.

Yes I have one for sale but it's the most mint copy you'll probably ever see. It's $300 shipped. I can take several pictures.

I see good copies for 500 to 600. So maybe 400-450? Really depends on how much value is put on the manual.

I really just want to replay PDS in RGB glory.

Isn't AC 1 included with certain Brotherhood discs? Could be a different Ass Creed sequel that had it but I think it was Brotherhood

@gypsy I need your expertise again. What should I be asking for for my boxed Sega CD and boxes Super Nintendo

The SNES is mario all stars edition. It is super clean and is barely used, non yellow. The game is still included in mint shape, and 2 controllers that are also barely used. Outside box in VG+-NM condition.

The SEGA CD is model 2, I am including a gen2 and has the plastic and all the steel plates papers and cardboard inside. Overall condition is VG for the system and box. Also included is an OEM gen6 controller.

I'm asking/set the price at $180+ship for each.

@lunar is that my wild arms 2 you just got in? It looks "OK". What size screen is it? SOME PlayStation games look ok on medium/large TV sizes. But for the most part it's why I bought a PSOne with LCD, because the smaller you can sqwoosh down those pixels, the better.

Is that really what a model 2 goes for? Is that so high because of the completeness?

I need a back up for my temperamental CDX, but that was way more than I thought I was going to have to spend

Yeah its priced like that for completeness, not a bad price @Erickrpg. A loosey model 2 should set you back like $80-$90 or so. Board revision on the model 2 genny might help with sale if you have one of the better variants like VA3 or VA4.

I just lowered the Super Nintendo and Sega CD to $160 + ship so it's even a better deal. It's not just bc it's complete, the Sega CD comes with a genny2 and they don't come with systems. Plus it has a gen6 controller which is much nicer than the gen3. I might throw in my backup ram cart with new battery and adjust the price a bit.

how funny i thought of to zanarkand when i first heard the music in the game

when im just here at home working in the kitchen or doing clothes etc i just run this concert. i never get tired of emi evans, angelic. she wrote the chaos language based on mash ups of real ones, so that it would deliberately sound familiar, yet ethereal and distant, as since the game takes place in a far future its what language might sound like in ten thousand years, shes amazing.

So, there's been alot of talk about PlayStation imports lately. I guess it's a good time to purge this particular item.

I have a Blue PS3 Super Slim, It's Japanese Region, which means the following:

It can play:
- Japanese region PlayStation games
- All region PlayStation 3 games
- Japanese region (Region 2) DVDs
- Both US and Japanese Blurays
- All PSN digital games

It CANNOT play:
- US region PlayStation games
- US region (Region 1) DVDs
- PlayStation 2 games

This system is a 500GB Super Slim, what I will include:
- Power cord
- 3rd Party Wired Controller
- The Shooting (PS1 Japanese Import)
- Beyond the Beyond (PS1 Japanese Import)
- Dragon Age Origins (US PS3 Game)

One final caveat: I don't know why, but this system is very picky with displays, it simply won't work(no picture, you can hear the sound) with couple of my monitors, but works fine with my TVs and one monitor. No clue on why.

ASKING: PayPal $100 shipped

So far no, but I had to relist it since couple of the games went to Gypsy.

It's a niche on niche system (PCE IFU + RGB), so I don't think it will sell that quickly.

I don't think I have ever actually played the first two (despite owning a near full US JRPG PS1 set bitd, Suikoden II is one I've never had but I did have the first) so it will be interesting. I've played what people would probably consider the worst two, 3 & 4.

I need to get to it with Mana Khemia 2 and clear that.

depending on what youre gonna do the parts arent probably as big a deal. i mean none of us are going to evo this summer. though that would be sick.

gypsy yes 3 and 4 are the weakest ones, especially 4. i dont think 3 is terrible but compared to 1 2 5 i can see why they are considered the weak ones. 1 and 2 are pretty short for jrpgs. and ya i need to get caught up on my gust games too.. so many games.......

I'm the exact opposite. I played 1 and 2, I liked them. Didn't love em like some people.
I always thought Wild Arms (1) trumps all those similar games during that era.

i need to play the wild arms too lol.

im really glad jrpgs are on such a resurgence this gen, so many good ones in the ps1 and 2 era and though there is some really really good stuff in the ps3/360 era it took a dip for a while there.

I didn't hate either one. IV felt really just like....idk...generic compared to what I've played of the others. Didn't have the same flare or feeling to the game world. Maybe I'm crazy. It was okay as a game though.

I played WA last year and had a lot of fun. 2 is in my backlog and oddly enough I have already beat 3 and 4.

PS3 is pretty close to a death void. Lots of them out there, but it's 90% generic moe crap. PS1/2 had a lot more JRPGs with style. And I agree with you, we are definitely seeing a bit of a resurgence.

Just download the first one. I have both on a psp memory card. I'm sure you could save some money and just get the first suikoden digitally on PS3 or something.

And no worries I'll be getting something done with @Lunar it's just a matter of if it's going to be a bigger trade or not.

Also @Gypsy I have two ps3s and I gotta test the second one out.

Other than playing Mortal Kombat with Kratos on a full size system (playing on the vita was just off in comparison) I need to play blu Rays somewhere.

But I did play Mega Man X on PS2 and that was actually a pretty cool experience. I'm looking forward to playing MMX2 as well now 😉

But as long as you got a cool deal in place it's all good. I did really enjoy the first two Suikoden games. Just haven't played any of the others yet.

Part of it is I don't have a PS3 out right now. The bigger part is that I don't want to these games on an LCD tv either. I guess I could drag out and hook up a PS3 to a CRT but that just seems like a lot of wasted effort.

I would 100% emulate over playing a Ps1 game via a PS3.

I got killed in Tekken for about an hour then switched to Until Dawn for the rest of the stream.

i need to get back on tekken 7, can still get matches on ps4 usually but the pc version seems to be high level only still playing or people just arent playing a lot of ranked, recently got the pc version and havent been able to get a match in three tries of going online. which is sad the pc version is more responsive and feels a little better. im only 4 trophies from plat on ps4 maybe i'll try and get that this weekend

ive actually got 2 ps3's...my launch 60gig fatty i dont want to mess with and mod, and want to keep the playtime off it, and a super slim but apparently you cant mod those, which is odd when softmodding youd think the software is the same, but im no expert on the modding process itself but ive gotten pretty ok at using the emu's themselves at least compared to what i was this time last year

So I mentioned it the discord but honestly Suikoden II isn't even all that rare. It has like 4x the number of copies of Mana Khemia 2 on eBay right now lol. Seen it quite a few times over the years at the game stores here too.

anyone see the recent KHIII trailer and 2018 release date? It kinda has me happy I decided to keep my PS4 Pro after my little "missed SOTC SE" pouting.

It used to be more and is actually kind of down right now. It's fluctuated a lot.
