Let's Play Together! Game of the Month Every month, RTT gets together and brainstorms two choices to vote as the Let's Play Together! Game of the Month. Upon completion of the GotM, you will be rewarded with an Achievement Icon! Let's play some awesome games together!
Thread Description Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.
Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.
Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!
Old Topic Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.
We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates. There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room. I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them. There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is . I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).
No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

I should have bought that 4K set that @Lunar linked to earlier. Looks like my living room tv is finally about to kick the bucket. It's always had issues tbh and I should have doged about it right away when I got it.

There will def be others. But yea, very happy with this set. Works really well with the other electronics, i went from a million remotes(ok, maybe like 5) to just 2. 1 for DVDO and the smart remote came with the TV that controls everything else
@Lunar Yeah I'll have to have my eyes peeled. Actually needs to be a tv for this spot and not a monitor. FOOTBALL WATCHIN' DEVICE. And actually I really want it to be 1080p and not 4k because I don't want to get a 4k scaler yet.
I have nothing I want to buy. Had I known this, I might have gone GTX 1060 instead of GTX 980, but whatever. Long as it performs, it's whatever. Supposedly the 980's a bit better than the 1060 anyways, just a bit older, sucks a bit more power.
For anyone serious about trying to beat Galactic Attack this month I would start soon. I doubt any of us in the thread are good enough to beat it on the first run. I sure as hell wasn't. You get an extra life at 500k points. This is something to take advantage of early. Stage 5, 7 and 8 bosses are all real butt-holes.
When I heard Galactic Attack was the game I was admittedly intimidated about if I could actually beat it or not. I've tried a bunch of times, I love the game, but danm it's challenging! I've never 1CC'd a shooter, and don't care to here, but if I can see credits roll I'll be happy. If I am not making progress I'll use a PAR code to practice levels that are too difficult on playthroughs.
Built in code for extra credits before starting the game:
8 Credits To start the game with 8 credits instead of the usual 4, on the title screen hold L+R+Left+C on the control pad, and press start.
GAME SHARK / PRO ACTION REPLAY CODES:
The following dongle-dependent codes are designed for use with the North American (NTSC) version of the game:

Once performed, enter the options screen to use the following additional selections: Muteki (enable to get more options when the game is paused), Muteki Off (disable invincibility), Muteki On (invincibility; press A + B + C for suicide), Quit (remove the Muteki options); Level Select (choose from any of the seven game levels).
Vote on which one you want to advance in each head to head. I'll tabulate the votes and then we move to the next round. Probably best to do one round a day for voting as there are other "regions" to do as well.
Thanks again @tonymack21. Fired up Mankind Divided and got all tingly again. I loved Human Revolution years ago and have been waiting to pick MD up on steam. For me the only way to play is pc. I owe ya one!
Don't even know if my vote should count because I've only played two games on the list and I'm not even going to vote for either one of them lol. I'm just going to vote for the games I would have loved to play had I grown up with an NES.

RetroUSB just updated the AVS with horizontal interpolation, so that's neat. The original Nt used to have this, but the feature was removed for space reasons and the Nt Mini doesn't have it either. It might be the only technical feature the AVS has the the Nts don't
Next person to trade with me or buy something from me and wants it gets a free City Hunter 357 Magnum DVD. Disc isn't in the best shape and I had some audio issues on the previews so the seller refunded me and told me to keep it. I have a sealed copy on the way now so I no longer need it. I would also just send it to someone for shipping cost.

It's yours. :)
I have a craving for more City Hunter now. It would be nice if Discotek was able to pick this stuff up. I'll be able to barely stomach getting the first two series at current price points (still more than I'd like), but series 3 is absurd and I don't even see city hunter 91 available to purchase anywhere on the internet.
Contra FUDGING rules. It defined that genre and was better than many that came after it. Bubble Bobble is great too. I think I generally picked all awesome games. The only ones I don't care about are Dragon Warrior III and FF but I wanted to include some RPGs because they were a big part of that era too.
01. Super Mario Bros. 3(Nintendo Entertainment System) 03. The Legend of Zelda(Nintendo Entertainment System) 10. Ninja Gaiden(Nintendo Entertainment System) 12. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link(Nintendo Entertainment System)
Since folks seem to put stuff for sale here... anyone interested in some Monster Cable-branded Component cables for the PS2 and PS3? I have three available. These don't work on PS1 systems (they don't output component signals, just SCART / RGB.) I'm asking for $40 shipped each via Priority Mail (these are heavy and I have to go flat rate.)
These are real component cables, not like the crapty ones Gamestop sold.
I also have a couple of Monster S-Video cables, and those DO work on the PS1.
The only issues with these is that the plugs are really tight and hard to get into the inputs...

Oh man I hope you end up liking it! I keep seeing the tempest one on facebook and I'm hoping they can fix the problems they are having with the tiny controls on that one. That's the one I might have to get. I probably like centipede better but it's not an easy game and I keep worrying if I have it I'll get frustrated since it's probably harder to control than just one a compilation cart or disc.
That's a long time to wait but I bet the centipede will be good! I saw a few people playing it in demo vids and none seemed to have a problem playing it.
Those aren't the official choices yet 😉 (I hope anyways ugh!)
If original Zelda actually beats out Ninja Gaiden in this group of retro peeps I'd be surprised. I do have some great memories of Zelda 1 though. It's literally the very first game I worked and saved up for myself. My gramma and I did a ton of yard work at our neighbors house and that's how I bought my very first game. Did it originally come with a fold out map too? I cannot remember.

Your Name, Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised In Our Early Days and 5 Centimeters Per Second are his better movies imo. Children was too long and Garden of Words was just meh. It's a very visual movie but not one that makes you think. Also somehow too long at 46 minutes for what it is. I think it's also been overanalyzed and overthought. It's like a 6.5/10 imo.
> I bought a better fujitsu scanner. Exciting stuff.
Not with the 20% today. But 2 days ago I bought a ROLLO label printer on amazon for $200. And I don't even sell on Ebay. But I figure I'll still be selling and trading 10 years from now so why not replace my old ass printer that's giving me problems now anyway! Hows that for crazy.
I believe it's regarded as the 2nd best behind the Japanese version. I'm good with the anime though. Which isn't to say I'm totally averse to live action Asian tv. Back when I still torrented I watched a fair bit of Chinese Wuxia shows. Old tv rips fansubbed. I can't even remember which ones at this point though, and the hdd they were on died.
All this talk of old jdramas has me nostalgic for the early 2000's college days. I loved getting out of class and getting back to the dorm to marathon some sort of jdrama till the evening. SARS fansubs was one of my favorite subbers back when and they used to always pick shows that were right up my alley. Hana kimi and the live action GTO were both pretty good too. Also Galileo and Densha Otoko. What a letdown the Initial D live action movie was though :(
I was a little bummed with some of the missing characters or some of the casting choices, but the guy playing GTO definitely captured his swagger. SO many good shows though, almost forgot about My Boss, My Hero and Nodame Cantabile (Japanese version)..

Plain old SNES Harvest Moon cart only. Two of my good friends had SNES Harvest Moon growing up and I played the N64 game to death. The idea of it being this uncommon, expensive game is ridiculous to me so I never bought a cart for myself until now. Kind of the same thing with Chrono Trigger. I finally bought an SNES copy when 10% Ebay bucks hit. I've always avoided it because it's so "overpriced" for how common it is, even if it's one of my favorite RPGs.
One game for $645? Jeebus. Not many games in that range. The PDSs sold pretty quickly once the coupon hit. You've already had a Keio pretty recently (although knowing you, you might just have bought Keio again). Flintstones 2?
Yeah this to me is a sad as fudge comment of all our economic progress under the orange clown.
Nonetheless I hope you get some great scores sir, but having another large store chain shut down feels like I'm actually losing someone in my life. Especially toys r us. It's hard to explain but I do actually have pain in my stomach just thinking about them going out of business.
Anyone remember Toys R Us take-a-paper-slip-from-our-massive-wall-and-we-will-get-you-a-physical-copy-from-the-back?
I was in Junior High in Brooklyn, I'd walk to school in the morning and use my 3-trip school subway card and go to a Toys R Us like 10 stops away. Bought some new Genesis games this way back in the day.
> Some people put those paper slip holders up in their game rooms. I think that's super

I use to stop by 6 different blockbuster stores each week looking for sweet deals. Once ps2 came out they stopped having awesome used prices. Before that I could get 1 month old games dirt cheap. After ps2 they were like $45+ and took forever to drop in price.
Quick question: are the plastic clamshell cases of the American video games the same size as the plastic clamshell cases of the Japanese ? I'm looking into buying a protective acrylic case that's made for a video game case and want to know if a video game case will also fit.

Nice! I used to love getting these game storage ottomans at toys r us. I still have one my ex fiancee has the pink one still. The other ones weren't for games necessarily but I have other storage ottomans too from target. Since the ones from toys r us sold out before we got to go back for more.
Zelda 1 in the finals but neither SMB2 or Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden is facing off against against smb3 in the finals? Wtf?
I get that smb3 belongs here and even agree Zelda IS a classic and belongs on any nes top 20 or 30 list but better than many other games that got the axe? (most notably Zelda 2, smb2 and Castlevania 3) that's crazy!
I mean we somehow didn't even end up with the better Nes Zelda at the end.
Super Mario Bros 3. (My choice for the ultimate winner)
It's clearly the better game between these two and it's a Nes top 5 game for sure.
The Genesis or Snes choices better be better Gypsy 😉 I need to get excited about the final two between SMB3 and what? Super Mario World probably? If snes Zelda couldn't even beat Neutopia for game of the month it sure as hell isnt better than every other Snes classic game.

Would that I could sir! It's one of those systems that would actually be 100 percent worth it to me. I hope someone does buy it from you so I'm not so tempted and I won't feel bad knowing it went to a great RTT home 😊
Otherwise I'm going to be looking around my apt for a week for stuff to sell and stop buying food again to try to come up with a way to get you your money lol. Cmon guys buy it! It's such a great price too!
@BleedingViolet Just claiming that Zelda 2 is the better Zelda casually is just inviting trouble. I happen to like Zelda 2 (although I think Zelda 1 is better), but you have to know by now that your opinions are in the minority. Acting all indignant that your -- although valid -- polarizing opinions were somehow not the majority choice is a strange way to go about it. CV3 and Z2 are excellent games (CV1 isn't and I stand by that) but they aren't better or more popular than SMB3. You have know that by now, right?

Better than SMB3? Seriously that's your OPINION, just like I think they are both better games than Zelda 1. We will never all agree on the best classic nes games and that's okay. We couldn't even all agree on which game between NG1 and Castlevania 1 was more difficult. Which is actually something that should be easier to figure out except for one thing. The human variable. Different people have different experiences and therefore may not even be as skilled at certain types of games like puzzles or platformers etc. as other people.
I don't always prefer difficult games either. But I do like games that are challenging to me. I even find new ways to challenge myself in games that I like and/or love. I still want to play through Super Mario 1 without warps or any cheap 1up tricks.
Inviting trouble by having a differing OPINION? Sure I like to talk trash about opinions but it's not like I'm trolling anyone. I also stand by my opinions since I can't really (usually anyways) enjoy something strictly because someone else says I should. IF we all agreed on everything I suppose we would never have any new games.
If I am adamant about Zelda 2 being a much better game than Zelda 1 why is that so strange? I am a psycho in a lot of ways and I like what I like and even if no one else agrees it's not going to make me feel like my opinion is wrong. Or that I'm somehow less entitled to it. If I think Smb2 is my favorite Super Mario ever how is that wrong? If I had never played these games and said all these things you could be right to say I'm wrong about Zelda or Smb3 or whatever game we happen to disagree on. I never did finish Metroid I just never got into it. That's just a for instance of a game I never got to finish that I can't say much about either way. But I certainly like Zelda better than Metroid. Whether it's fair or not it is still just an opinion.
You've clearly misunderstood me. I never said your opinion wasn't valid. It absolutely is. It's clearly not the popular opinion though, like obviously. So acting all indignant that your unpopular opinion wasn't backed up is silly.
> lots of good ps3 rpgs in here... shameless auction plug
You're killing me Tony! You always have such good stuff in great brand newish condition. It WOULD be a shameless plug if you weren't doing us all a favor by letting us know about your stuff. My friend Duane has a PS4 so I'll probably try and bid on the MKXL if nothing else. If he doesn't have it already that is.
> You've clearly misunderstood me. I never said your opinion wasn't valid. It absolutely
> is. It's clearly not the popular opinion though, like obviously. So acting all indignant
> that your unpopular opinion wasn't backed up is silly.
What's silly is pretending popular opinion matters. If it did we might actually have an actual president right now. Instead of whatever is actually going on in Washington right now.
I didn't misunderstand you. If your only point in your giant paragraph that I actually did read was that my unpopular opinion not being backed up and being indignant about it was silly why not post just that one sentence without all the other fluff if you're saying none of the rest of it meant anything anyways?
If I AM entitled to an opinion I'm also taking the liberty to explain why I have said opinion. Just like you did. Idk how many times you think telling me my opinion isn't the same as everyone else's is going to suddenly get me to stop saying what I think. Or phrasing it how I choose to. I never back down. I don't just like things because everyone else does. Or stop speaking my mind just because you may not like what I have to say.
It helped that I had about $50 in my account until this morning. Got a BIIIIT more this morning, but even so, can't think of anything big I'd use it on. Don't want any systems, no rush for a better monitor, I like my rig, headphones, keyboard, case... just doing okay!
Not as easy as I would've liked. The Saturn version only gives you 5 credits by default. I bumped it all the way up to 8 because hell if I'm getting good at this game. It still took me 4 tries blasting through with max credits.
> Mario games are soooo fun, every game is different and soooo sooo much fun. Not the
> same games at all.
This exactly! The first 3 on Nes alone all had different elements that make them worth playing to this day. It's pretty crazy there have been so many different Mario games in the main series and they still find new stuff to add to (for the most part anyways) keep the series amazing!
