Description

Being a huge fan of the Punch-Out!! series, I was naturally very excited when I first heard about the game. I could only imagine how the gameplay would be enhanced from the others in the series, and boy was I impressed!

Starting off I would like to point out that many people consider this game as a "REMAKE" of the others, I am stating that after 20+ years of gaming experience and as an avid fan of the entire Punch-Out!! series, I can safely say that this game is NOT a remake of the others.

Now on to the review.....

The year is 2009, and Little Mac along with Doc are making a comeback! Among starting up the game for the first time, my eyes lit up brighter than the lighting in the title screen! There are several modes in the game including Career mode, Exhibition mode, and Head-to-head. Unfortunately, there is NO Wi-Fi compatibility. frown

Gameplay is generally the same as any other Punch-out!!; you start at the bottom of the ladder and work your way up to become the champion, fighting many old foes, along with a few new challengers. Career mode is perfect for anyone looking to become the next WVBA champ! As you fight through the 3 circuits of fighters, you begin to see that the characters become harder.....and smarter!

Career mode has modes inside of itself, once you become the world WVBA champion, you open up "Title Defense" mode. The fighters you defeated on your way to becoming world champ have trained hard for their chance at redemption against you. They also learned a few new moves along the way! Get past the rematches and title defenses, then you will move on to "Mac's Last Stand", where if you lose 3 bouts, then you must hang up the gloves and call it a career.

Exhibition mode is just fighting any character anytime you choose, as you progress in career mode, you will unlock more foes to battle in exhibition. There are also special challenges that are not available in Career mode. For example, beat Bald Bull without getting knocked down, or Beat King Hippo in under 50 seconds. There are several challenges for each fighter, and each fighter has different challenges.

Head to Head mode is a new addition to the Punch-Out!! series. Now you can face another player in a split-screen bout. While it is a good new addition to the series, the non-addition of Wi-Fi disappointed many, including myself. But if you're looking for a good time of 2 player Punch-Out!! Then you're in for some epic battles!

The graphics are amazingly well for a Wii game, from player models to artwork to voice-overs and so forth, you can tell that a lot of time and effort went into this gem to make sure that it makes it staple in being one of the best Wii games of all time. I highly recommend for any Punch-Out!! fan to just try this game out, even if you just rent it. With all the nostalgia moments within the game, and the Doc's love for Chocolate (You'll see what I mean when you play it!!) it will make you wanna join the Nintendo Fun......or Club Nintendo today!
