Mario's first portable adventure, and one of the most unforgettable!

Story Line
One day in the peaceful land of Sarasaland a mysterious alien known as Tatanga hypnotizes all of the inhabitants and Kidnaps the Princess Daisy. Tatanga's goal is to hypnotize Daisy and trick her into marrying him. Mario, being the hero he is, sets off on a journey in a strange new world, with different enemies, mysterious bosses, and new gameplay aspects, to save Princess Daisy, and restore Sarasaland to its past peaceful state.

The main gameplay remains true to Mario's past adventures. Run around jumping on enemies, collecting coins, smashing blocks, traveling down pipes, and of course eating mushrooms that make you grow. The majority of it is a simple side-scrolling platformer, although this time around Mario introduces some all new gameplay aspects. Mario jumps in a submarine or an airplane shooting missiles at various enemies. Those levels play more like a side-scrolling shooter, and are a very fun twist!

Back when this game was released (1989) the graphics were top notch. Obviously 21 years later the graphics aren't going to impress anyone, but back in its day the graphics were comparable to the GameBoy's console counterpart, the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The sound in this game was again good for its time. Although the actual sound effects wouldn't be anything to rave about in today's day and age. The background music is up-beat, and very catchy. Each world has different background music playing, and the boss battles also have a different tune.

All in all Super Mario Land is a fantastic game. It's one of the best-selling and, in my opinion, one of the best GameBoy games released. Super Mario Land was Mario's first portable adventure, and is definitely not one to forget. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes Mario games, or is a fan of side-scrolling platformers!
