Description

"People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the Land of the Dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens, that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then, sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right." - - Shelley Webster, The Crow

This movie was and will always be my all-time favorite movie. It is also Brandon Lee's last performance. Brandon Lee is the son of Bruce Lee, famous martial artist. Whether or not it was a coincidence, both actors died making a movie.

The Crow was created by James O'Barr as a comic book series and the movie is an adaptation of the comic.

Brandon Lee plays a musician, Eric Draven, who gets murdered with his fiancée by a gang of hooligans whom like to play with fire. Eric Draven comes back to life to avenge his and his fiancée's death. His quest for vengeance takes him to the top of the food chain, the leader of the outfit that owns the gang.

One of my favorite scenes of the movie is when Eric quotes from a piece called "The Raven" written by Edgar Allan Poe. This is the scene that gets Eric on the path to vengeance by banging up Gideon's Pawn Shop. Eric then sends a message to the gang that he is coming via Gideon and blowing up his shop.

This movie shows that bad things can happen to good people, even lovers. Be warned, this is no Romeo and Juliet love story. I know my Shakespeare and this doesn't compare to it. This film is a must see and a must have for even a Brandon Lee fan, but also a must see for someone who likes action mixed with drama.

This is the first of the 3, soon to be 4, movies in the series. There was also a TV series in the mid-1990's that was rather good. I would recommend watching "The Crow" w/ Brandon Lee first before watching anything else, but my biggest recommendation, which I am also following myself, is to find the comic book series and read the comics. That is how the story started.
