Double Gold Good Trader Happy Birthday to Me

My friends want me to get into magic but idk where to begin. We play commander when we plsy (ive only played once and was half lost). So mainly looking for some prebuilt decks for commander. Plus looking for accessories like life counters and dice and what not. I want to build a wolf themed deck so anything like that also helps

You might want to consider commander precons. Those should come with some way to track life as well.

there are prebuilt Commander decks

Those are the 2018 ones. The older ones may be harder to get.

They are playable out of the box, and it's fun to improve them. Besides that all you need are sleeves (I recommend Dragon Shield) and a pen and paper. But in some Commander playgroups I've seen people use their smartphone to keep track of life, they lay their phone in the center of the table, it displays everyone's life total (and other things like poison counters, commander damage, etc) and anyone can tap on it to adjust their life total.

Commander is not a competitive format. What matters imo is the fun your deck brings to the playgroup. I felt like some of the previous year's decks could have been done better. That said, I haven't looked at this year's decks.

He's the man around here for this. I'm sure he can set you up with some starter decks.

Get the decks...but I highly recommend downloading Magic The Gathering: Arena. It's free and you can get starter decks and play for more cards. I haven't spent a penny and have gotten probably the most mileage out of it...more than any other digital MTG offering.

Arena's good stuff, really great option for free play. If you grind out the quests and daily rewards you can easily crack better than a sealed box of booster cards per month.

Yeah, I have a friend whose dropped over $200 real dollars to play and I'm like "WHY!?!?!" I think they give you more than ample reward for just playing. You get the majority of the gold from doing stupid stuff like casting 20 green spells!

Ironically people complain that they feel like they're being forced into playing colors they don't like or don't have decks built for. But I don't LIKE greeennnnnnn

Honestly, I would ask your friends for help. The best reason to get into Magic is because you have friends that play and you want to enjoy the experience with them. The last time I played, I looked at the Building on a Budget deck from Wizards. They often had fun gimmick decks that were fun to play in a casual setting. I think I still have an elves deck, affinity deck, and maybe a few more. Also talk with your friends and see how much the typically spend on their decks. You don't want to start in a group where everyone is spending $500 on a deck, when that isn't within your budget. That more then anything else is what drove me away from Magic. It became more about who had the most money to buy the best cards. I enjoyed it when you could play with silly stupid decks and not get demolished.

Agreed...but there are so many great formats now. If your friends have a cube (collection of random cards), you could all pull from that and make sealed deck tournaments. There is Commander, Pauper...so many viable types to play. But like lpeters says: if they are all running $500+ decks: you will be hurting. Yes...and even though you can build that $25 Goblin deck...that will be extremely boring to play after a few games :)

Cubes can be great, but you really need an extensive collection to have a good one.

Crapty cubes are encouraged. That way you guys can go and play crapty cube Magic, which is frankly superior to "real" cubes imo, as nobody is flexing on anyone, you're all struggling to surpass the envelope of mediocrity into sustainable budget play.

Holy CRAP that Lone Wolf + Appeal combo REALLY made an acceptable win, and here I was thinking your snake tokens without Seshiros were jank crap!

Man, I had a friend almost crying for a VERY expensive way of pumping a creature +X/+X (think it was like 6 CMC) and giving them a way to deal combat damage as if they weren't blocked. It was my jank crap versus his Angel Token deck, and he got stomped mercilessly three times in a row; he actually took the card out of my discard pile, looked at it and said "It's too expensive, this card is CRAP, it's not even playable!" and I'd be like "So yeah, you're taking 24"

I actually wouldn't mind getting back into Commander. That didn't exist when I played, but my fear is that because you are running 100 individual cards you care going to need some of the extensive staples for the various colors. I also really enjoy playing tribal, so give me Merfolk, Elves, Goblins, Zombies, Rats, Wurms, etc. I just like magic when it's more about casting creatures and having this giant battle. I watched some competitive players playing and they were both playing these ultra defensive decks. Neither player played a card for move for 3-4 turns.

So they just did a pretty neat MTGA update where you can't open a fourth plus copy of a card anymore. If you're out of possible cards to get for a slot, they convert to premium currency, Gems. That pretty neatly solves the fourth card issue and DEFINITELY helps you finish up a set collection.
