i recently got a gameboy color with one game (snoopy tennis) and am looking for more/better games. i am willing to trade but if the color has region locking (i don't know that) it would need to be pal because i otherwise cant play it anyway.

The GBC is not region locked.

Asking for free stuff is kind of looked down on though.

I have two GBC games you can have if you pay shipping. Some shovelware but it's free.

I'm not treating him like a pos, just offering some advice. Asking people for free stuff is #1 disrespectful to the other users on the site (essentially it's telling people "your stuff isn't worth my money, but I'll take it anyway"), and #2 generally not going to be successful (shipping is expensive, even more so overseas)

Asking specifically for cheap stuff is also not the best idea, because when you do, be prepared for mostly mediocre games.... I guess if you're starting a shovelware-based YouTube show or podcast, that could be exactly what you want. But in general I think avoiding the word "cheap" as a buyer is better.

If you want good games, show respect to the people you plan to trade with by researching prices and making fair offers.

Other suggestions:

If you don't know what you want, make a thread asking for recommendations of good games for the system, in a particular genre, etc. You can even specify you'd looking for good games that are not too expensive.

Post a dollar amount, and ask people for recommendations. For example: "I've got $40 and looking to start a GBC collection. Cart only is fine, hoping to buy mostly from one person to save on shipping. Let me know what you've got." That sample doesn't use the word "cheap" but does set some expectations on pricing.

I don't know enough about GBC prices, but there are plenty of good games on every system that are "cheap".

Asking for free isn't a good idea, but if he's willing to pay shipping it doesn't be hurt to ask. I've seen it done before on this site.

It happens, but usually I see it the other way around though. People offer to send a few games for cost of shipping, rather than someone just straight up asking for free games.

It's just cheesy, especially as your first thing here. It can hurt in the sense that it leaves a bad first impression. I've given things away on this site several times and received awesome deals but maybe they should build a rep and engage the community first.

Every system has good cheap games for sure. Lots of variables such as personal taste in genres and can you play games in Japanese too. But in general I think one could end up with lots of fun titles for almost any system with just $100 to spend (system cost excluded).

No that's all very true. I just hope to not scare a new member away quickly. I feel like I see so feel of them 😂.

I would be hesitant to list how much I want to spend if I were new, because you always see people scamming new users who's only experience with game values is gamestop or other retail stores. If you say you have $40, you could end up with $15 worth of games if someone wants to take advantage.

I think they should be okay, though maybe the negs scare them off? I know we've seen people take negs too seriously before. The first reply answered their question and I think everyone has been pretty cordial.

We do see that sometimes but Ben did also make sure to recommend researching prices as well. So you can say I've got $x but I know what games are worth and would like to pay around the going rate if someone tries to upcharge you.

That's the thing though, I DON'T see that kind of stuff here anymore. Haven't for a few years at least.

Most folks who try to overcharge get negged so hard it leaves a welt.

I don't think people post over priced games. But I think people who post they want $XX worth of games get messaged and sold games at a price they aren't worth. Maybe it doesn't happen anymore since the traffic on the site is down.

You may or may not be scum for mucking up the forums with a zillion "WTB" posts.
