Other thread died. Playoffs about to happen. Not a ton of seeding drama outside of a couple games. Chiefs pissed away the 1 seed, although it was entertaining. Chargers-Raiders interesting. Rams-9rs. AB is a nut job. Anywho...

Thoughts on current awards lines (this is if you understand money lines)... I see what I think is a fairly low risk bet. Rodgers is currently -400 for MVP. National media is pushing hard for Rodgers being unanimous MVP. I think Brady has a chance, but Rodgers ain't doing anything to hurt his case this weekend, and Brady ain't setting records or taking the 1 seed. Enter my #2 guy, Kupp. He's likely winning the triple crown, and could beat CJ's single season yardage record. A $100 bet on Rodgers covers any losses on a $30 bet on Kupp. Rodgers wins, you get pocket change. Kupp wins you win a few hundred. Brady wins and you lose. Taylor has an outside chance, but he's not breaking any records or the 2000 yard mark in a 17 game season. The other bet, which might be better is bet 30 on Kupp for MVP and 100 for OpotY. He wins the triple crown and he should get one of them. Only think stopping him is if Chase gets 3 more TDs than Kupp, or Taylor has a historic game.

I budget $100 each season for bets. Haven't placed any this season. Thoughts from any casual betters?

(Also intend for this to be the general NFL thread for the post season.. not just betting thoughts though that's welcome)

Edit: Generic betting disclaimer: Bet for fun, don't bet what you can't lose, seek help if you have a problem, any thoughts in this thread are not representative of GameTZ or @Bill (lest he states something), this is not intended as financial advice., etc.

I would never bet a dollar on an nfl game. Somehow the Eagles got in by beating teams full of practice squad guys and inexperienced backup qbs. The entire local media is hyping up Jalen Hurts as if he has proven anything at all and is carrying the team but hasn't actually looked good at the most important part of being a qb, throwing the ball. Any time he had a bad game or a slow start, the media blames the coach for not running the ball enough.

With all that being said, I fully expect the Eagles to upset the Bucs in the first round and Hurts will look elite because I'm hating on him so much. Seriously, the Saint Jalen stuff is ridiculous in this City.

She also said she tested positive for Covid right after; obviously looking for those clicks... gutter trash that she must be.

Then Brown goes on to say Tom Brady is trash and can't do crap by himself. Implies he (AB) was the best player on the Bucs. The only reason he was friends with Brady is because he's a good football player (?!), and he doesn't understand why he is on a prove deal. Clearly Vontez Burfect knocked whatever sense AB had left right the fudge out.

Looking at their schedule you're right. They didn't really beat a good team, but they did play some of them close including TB albeit at home. They have a solid defense and run the ball a lot which would back that up. Right now there's no guarantee they play TB in the first round, guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Well i disagree with you on that a bit. The Super Bowl was legitimately earned and the team was the one seed that season and had a lot of good players in their prime and a mix of veteran mercs they picked up. Butler hasn't done much since and i think he's retired now at like 31. Maybe he makes a difference but we'll never know. A poor coaching decision is the only reason he had his biggest moment of his career too. But yes, the sports radio here is full of idiots.

I just bet at my local casino who uses Draft Kings I believe. I know I'm missing out on bonuses, but I only set aside $100/year max for gambling. Just something for fun. Didn't actually get to place my bets, so will be interesting to see if I'd have lost. My Kupp MVP bet is dead, but I think the other bet would've paid out for a minimal gain. Just would've covered the cost of gas and a little more if it paid out so not too disappointed.

I'm glad they got rid of their GM. They really botched the handling of Nagy imo, and they are right back where they were when they hired Nagy. They now have to hire a new coach with a QB they didn't draft. Frankly they should've gotten rid of Nagy last year before the draft if they were considering drafting a qb. Once they picked Fields I thought they should've been tied to Nagy for at least part of next year.

Bet 365 gives a sign up bonus usually at the start of the NFL season. Match what you put in up to $200. It's worth looking into.
Bears getting a QB last year was a bit of a fluke. All the mock drafts had all those QB's going earlier. Still surprised QB needy teams like Carolina and Denver didn't grab one. I just hope the next coach designs an offense to Justin Fields strengths and not put a system that he likes and try and force Fields to play it.

We kick this year's playoffs with the team with the longest play-off win drought in the NFL hosting the team with the 4th longest playoff win drought. Someone has to win.

On the radio I believe they said Cinnci has the longest in all of sports, but I'm guessing they are only counting single game wins and not series wins. There's gotta be a team that hasn't won a playoff series since the 80's.

Edit: I stand corrected. No other sport goes back to the 90's for last playoff series win.

NFL has 2 teams that haven't won a playoff game since the early 90s, Cincinnati and Detroit.

Raiders got boned on that whistle. You can't blow a whistle prior to the qb throwing the ball then call it a TD. What's worse is they huddled and affirmed it.

Yeah that was weird but it was a legit td. I keep hearing about how the keys for the Eagles to pull off the upset tomorrow is for them to never throw the football but Hurts is totally the future of the team.

Except it's not legit the moment the whistle is blown. Had the defender continued playing defense and hit the receiver it would've been a personal foul. God forbid they hit the QB after the whistle. The ref who blew the whistle should be removed from officiating the playoffs.

I'm excited to watch the Eagles game. They have a puncher's chance.

Yeah it was legit without the whistle and and don't think it actually affected the play. The Raiders seemed to have to battle the refs last week a bit too. As for the Eagles, there is nothing that tells me they have a chance at all and that is the reason I think they have a chance.

I disagree with the call too but I'd be furious if an inadvertent whistle took away a td from my team. I can see if the whistle made everyone stop playing. Refball is real and each week they make rigged conspiracy theorists seem like they might be right.

Yeah, it's a shame. Biggest fault is the NFL for bowing down to the ref union. Fudge them. Hire full time refs and hold them accountable. As it is now refs can do the job part time, fudge up horribly and continued to get paid/officiate. Owners don't care as it creates news/revinue and they get paid.

Congrats to the Bengals for finally winning a playoff game since Bush SR was president. Will be interesting to see what the Raiders do at HC.

I can't post the image of the full response but here's the follow up on the whistle and touchdown...

Walt Anderson, the NFL's senior vice president of officiating training and development, said in a pool report after the Bengals' 26-19 win that Boger's crew decided "the whistle for them on the field was blown after the receiver caught the ball."

"We confirmed with the referee and the crew that on that play -- they got together and talked -- they determined that they had a whistle, but that the whistle for them on the field was blown after the receiver caught the ball," Anderson said. "They did not feel that the whistle was blown before the receiver caught the ball."

What total bullcrap. They need to just admit they fudgeed up, then fudgeed up again by not enforcing the rules on the book and move on. Too bad there wasn't a hot mic. Refs shouldn't keep their whistles in their mouth during live plays.

That end play was all dak's fault. He should have given ball to ref instead of center. Ref has to spot ball before the ball can be snapped. The center spotted it wrong, and dak basically was boxing the ref who had who had touch the ball out of touching it. The center also spotted it to far up, so the ref had to spot it correctly and that cost them 2 seconds
