I haven't read a Archie comic since the early 00s so does anyone know if this show matches the comic besides the names and high school? I was hoping it would be like the 70s or older comics but it doesn't look like it.

its pretty modern, I don't like it, but I don't like anything modern and millennial-ized anymore, once you get past that target 18-34 demographic I guess its true that you don't like or understand why people think modern things are good. its modern day and explores the darkness behind the seemingly perfect town the kids live in. archie and jugs friendship is strained, a kid has died and theres the mystery behind that. theres also talk about doing Sabrina the teenage witch as a spin off series of it. give it a shot but but its not like the 70s or the comics. if you like other CW stuff you may be into it. I watch the Flash/Arrow with the kids, but that's about all the CW I can take.

It's a good show. Better than the clean-cut "comedy" of old school Archie comics which would have only made for corny Leave it to Beaver-style television. Love those old comics, but when adapting something, change can be a good thing. Riverdale is a good example. They focused more on later Archie books, like "Afterlife with Archie", etc. Lots of darker stories that breathed fresh air into these old one-note characters and got the series back into the public mind enough to even adapt it for TV in the first place.

All that said, I've seen maybe 2 episodes. It's fun if you're into mystery. The "CWness" of it doesn't hinder it much. Looking forward to watching more of it eventually.

I mean, reviews have been good-to-great, and all aggregate sites have it sitting around the 75%+ mark as far as audience goes. But everyone has their opinion so I'll forgive you too good sir.

Good chance I don't end up enjoying it, lots of shows fall off at some point. But Riverdale has potential from what I've seen.

I loved Archie comics growing up, read them all the time. I wanted to give this show a chance, but a few Youtube videos quickly showed it was too dark/serious for my taste. It's not so much the CW-ness, I really liked One Tree Hill. They could have modernized this one without going so dark and serious, I think I could have gotten into that.

The idea of a darker mystery Archie as the first live-action adaptation certainly is a weird one, that's for sure.

I'm not particularly proud of this but I have seen every episode.
It's visually pleasing, it's fun in a semi-campy sense, but it's completely ridiculous and can't be taken seriously. I guess under the right parameters it is a great show so I'll backtrack my previous comment. It's pure trash but I can't say it's not entertaining

Not exactly the first live action adaptation.

There were specials done in the seventies, and a TV movie in 1990.

Technically, the Sabrina show with Melissa Joan Hart is an Archie spin-off, as the comics are in the same universe.

Riverdale (the show) feels more like Archie does Twin Peaks to me. Everyone has secrets and scandals lurking in their closet.

The comics have been taking more chances recently, with the main book rebooted a few years back to be much more modern in tone and art style. They've also done projects like "Life with Archie" that have the characters as adults (following 2 timelines, one where Archie married Betty, one where he married Veronica), and Afterlife with Archie, featuring the gang in a zombie apocalypse. Afterlife lead to a horror version of Sabrina that Netflix will be adapting soon.

had (still have?) a big thing for her, before that she was Clarissa. she was one of those stars that a lot of 80s/90s kids were probably into.

Yah I never count the 90's Sabrina but when I think about it, it was fairly accurate to the tone of the comics so it had that going for it. Honestly forgot about the older Archie specials - those were lost to time hard. Still, I feel like Archie is most recognized as the wholesome group of "Happy Days"-style teens just living everyday, normal life - so the dark, brooding version taking the first modern go at a serialized TV adaptation was a strange move.

I loved Clarissa Explains It All, and still do, for its overly-90s tone. It really seemed like the creators of that show were from the future and decided to make a show that would perfectly encapsulate how life as a 90s kid would be remembered.

Was less of a Sabrina kid but wouldn't hate it when it was randomly on a TGIF line-up while running through the house doing my kid-things haha. I do have fond memories of that coming on during a TGIF Halloween marathon, so the little animatronic Salem is an image that I always attribute to Halloween.

I dunno if it was just that I was too young to care how good looking a girl was at the time, but I never found MJH to be super attractive. Pretty lady for sure, but not exactly my type. I will always appreciate her for Clarissa and for being a current outspoken pro wrestling fan.

haha I loved salem he was the best part.

ya clarissa definitely does feel like that. and ya I agree, there was something real about the way MJH is pretty, like I mean I wouldn't have put her over Alyssa Milano or Christina applegate back then but she was cute in a she could be someone you know irl kinda way.

I don't get the CW. I was thinking of buying it but then i saw a scene on youtube not a trailer and hated and disgusted not by what happens but how they destroyed a character i enjoyed watching being dumb and beating people; that's not Moose it's someone else called Moose in the scene i saw. Scene i saw at random i picked was Moose in the bathroom with another guy. Other title i saw but didn't check out was Jughead kissing Veronica which i'm pretty sure is for real and not forced. Jughead is my favorite but that is not what Jughead does.

I not familiar with these specials you speak of but thus far in my opinion the 1990 made for tv movie ultra low budget is the best adaptation whether live or animated. In that movie Moose only had a cameo yet acted more like Moose than that scene i saw on Riverdale (this is made for tv so Moose isn't going to beat anyone but he did destroy a table). On youtube. There is also back in the 60s or 50s someone made a live action Archie pilot that no one bought. It's on youtube too, not bad for that time period.

I've seen a few episodes of Sabrina, it was ok i suppose but i quit watching it cause not like the comics. If i remember correctly more like life lessons with comedy mixed in which i did not laugh at all. Show sure put Melissa on the map.

I watched the live action Josie movie which i did not like mostly cause they based it on the real world. One has think with Josie cause in the beginning it was drama then later it was a comedy in the comics, speaking about the 70s 60s. I don't know what happened after it was rebooted the 2nd time and beyond.

I thought the archie comics was always popular except for non archie and gang archie comics such as their version of the fly and shield etc. A known name but not as popular as DC Marvel or back in the day.

I've also been meaning to pick up the DC lineup on tv shows: arrow, supergirl flash maybe others. But then i don't want to be disappointed like i am with Batman V Superman, this Riverdale scene i saw and other shows. I'm more DC than Marvel. The bulk of the Marvel i have not seen and alot of DC live action films has been sucking esspecially the last 2, don't understand why they approved Zach to do the reboot. Shazam with the Rock in it turns me off.

Captain Marvel will be Zachary Levi from the TV show Chuck.

The Rock is not in the movie. He's trying to get a Black Adam solo movie going, but good luck with that.

Grenadier: I was told by someone here that the Rock was Black Adam, i did not look it up. That is what turned me down. If he's out then i might be back on board if they totally disregard BVS and JLA. I hope it's not mostly a light show like Suicide Squad.

Never seen Levi so i can't say.

If that movie happens, it'll be because of the Rock. No one's re-casting the most popular actor in Hollywood haha

They didn't need to recast him. They cut him out of the movie altogether, and are using Dr. Sivana as the villain instead. Rock was never going to be playing the hero. He was supposed to be playing Black Adam. He's now hoping for a solo .movie for Adam before eventually showing up as a villain in Shazam, but I wouldn't hold your breath considering how messed up the DCEU has been.

Wiki says principal photography wrapped in May, so the film is shot at this point, and in post production. Release scheduled for next April.

I was referring to that solo Black Adam movie. If that movie happens, it'll only be because of Rock. I haven't been keeping up with the DC movie slate so I wasn't aware of the villain shake-up. I just know rumors of a solo Black Adam movie had been whirling since right after Rock was announced as playing the character.

But I agree I wouldn't hold my breath as far as this franchise goes. Like I said, it'd only be the Rock playing the character that would get that movie made... Black Adam absolutely isn't a "solo movie" character.

Black Adam is cut out? Isn't he part of the show?

I've read very few Shazam comics, i watched the 70s show but i know it's nothing like this. I don't know if i will eventually see it or not, it will be probably be another light show. I wasn't too fond of Squad except Quinn and Croc but it's easily the better one in the dc current reboot lineup. I vote for another reboot with better director, writter and cast; no need for origin movies just pick a great script and jump right in.

Black Adam is one of the bigger villains for Captain Marvel, but hardly the only one. Sivana is probably the main one. He's basically Captain Marvel's version of Lex Luthor.

Welp, new report. Rock says he may be eyeing a late 2019 film date for Black Adam... the script is apparently "coming along great" with maybe a few DC hero cameos: https://screenrant.com/black-adam-dwayne-johnson-d...

Odds that he's even thought about Black Adam since he signed for the role until this interview?

On topic: more about Archie as to remain on topic.

I think it would depend on what goes on if a solo adam is ok. Reminds me of Venom don't look good to me i don't see spider-man anywhere (only saw trailer not movie description or cast), Spider-Man without Venom is like Beavis without Butthead. Why could they not do Maximum Carnage storyline instead of a original? Yeah i'm thinking rights issue. But then i don't want Fox to do it, rather someone else beside disney but disney probably be ok.

Probably won't try Archie, i was hoping like the old comics. Hate to see it and then be really hateful towards it like i am with BVS.
