The Kohl's switch deal isn't bad.

$320 for a Switch, case, and joycon charging stand and $90 in Kohls cash.

Killer Queen, CTR, and Aladdin/Lion King for $15 a pop definitely interests me. Here's hoping a similar deal will pop up online!

I think the PS5 will launch with a wireless VR, so they're trying to clear stock on the wired one but at the same time increase the user base for potential upgrades and higher software sales.

Really hope PS5 supports the older VR headsets. I bought mine off here about a year or so ago. Haven't used it nearly as much as I want to, but it's such a cool device. While wireless would be much easier to manage, I don't want to have to upgrade already. raspberry

honestly with the new hardware profile you're going to want to anyways. The PS4 VR experience is okay for the price, but you don't know what you're losing with the reduced resolution and refresh rate present in VR headsets that aren't already 3 years behind current trends. If you like PS4 VR, you're gonna have your nuts dusted off by whatever the PS5 can support, surely.

I asked this on a Reddit post and somebody said it doesn't on BF, but that if the sale prices are for the whole weekend and the game is still in stock over the weekend, you could get the discount then. Not sure if that's accurate, but they seemed sure.

I'd be surprised if these sell out. It's $50 off retail, but the Wal-Mart stores around here couldn't give these away at half off retail after Christmas last year. They didn't move until they hit 75% off. Wal-Mart appears to be stocking a bunch of these this year too.

I still see last years machines on clearance at random Wal-Mart stores. FYE also had them at 50% off last I checked.

I don't think stores leak their own ads but who knows. Years ago, when I worked at a newspaper, we would get the ads a week or so early to make sure they were ready to insert into our Thanksgiving edition of the paper. I think a lot of leaks came from newspapers...this was late nineties to about 2008. I think the Black Friday websites are such a big deal now they probably bribe someone at the printers where the ads are printed to get scans. I think the leaks would happen a lot earlier, but now that everything is sent digitally to the printer instantly, the ads don't have to be done as far in advance.

Be super careful with the Vizio M series! There are a lot of sub-models that are super misleading. The one you linked only has 16 dimming zones and a max brightness of 400 nits. The 50" one only comes in the low-tier model, I think. This review goes into more in-depth detail: https://www.cnet.com/reviews/vizio-m658-g1-review/

The only reason I know this is because I was thinking of buying the M series, too, but this put me off of it. If the Hisense H9F ever goes on sale I'll probably take the leap on the 55", but so far I've had so many problems finding a good 50" at the right price. Seems like 55" is as small as you can go and still get a quality set.

Too bad no stores offer sales on OLED TV's this Black Friday. Those are the real MVP's of 4K. I think I might have seen a BJ's or Costco flyer for like $50-$100 off an OLED, but it was nothing significant.
dustin11
Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
13-Nov(#63)
I think Costco has OLED "deals", but they're better bought on other sides during certain times of the year than their pricing. I wouldn't buy an OLED this year anyhow, I would wait until the 10 series come out because they'll support HDMI 2.1 and 120hz which will be much more compatible with next gen consoles which will be using VRRs. OLEDs are coming down in price fast though, when I bought my first one ~5 ears ago it was $2200 on sale for a 55" 1080p and the 4k sets were $3k. Now you can buy a C9 for like $1200 pretty easily.
TalonJedi87
Double Gold Good Trader Has Written 4 Reviews
13-Nov(#64)
Ya I noticed that the 2016 and 2017 models of OLED can be scooped up for a little over 1G now too. I also heard that all these "8k" TV's on the market now are the equivalent to like a 1080i VS 1080p back a decade or so ago. The true sweet spot target is going to be 12k within the next several years.

As someone who bought a PS4 Pro after buying a 4K TV, I can safely say don't buy a TV for that thing. It's awful at 4K. If it's a natural upgrade and you're looking to upscale 1080p content to be bearable (compilations, digital 1080p games), it's fine, but jesus, that thing sucks balls at doing the thing it was made to do. It's not even worth a "May as well, I've got a 4K TV" purchase imo, the Slim will do you fine if you just want to play the games. I actually uninstalled Darksiders 3, which they handed out for free, five minutes after firing it up. It's disgusting; it was like playing a 1080p Youtube stream that was dropping packets left and right. It doesn't do 4K physical, it doesn't do 4K Vudu streaming, it does half-4K for most of its 4K content and applies a smear filter over it (Tomb Raider! Red Dead Redemption 2! Spider-Man! Even titles it should play fine, like Bloodstained!). Slim at least isn't faking it and charging you double, and it's got the games you want to play.

You should really, really wait for the PS5. Might even fix PS4 4K content. But the Pro can't. And that's a big fat X for a system this close to cycling. Only reason I'm looking to pick up an Xbox One X this late in the system cycle is because I DO want something to play 4K blurays on and, you know, stream more than one app in 4K on.

It's just a really bad ROI. I regret not sticking to slim, PS4 Pro was such a bad money sink. Everytime I found something else it doesn't actually do 4K on I'd just get more and more irrationally angry at my stupidity for shelling out for it, lol. Vudu was the last straw. PS4 Pro, 2018-2019. Rip in pieces.

I can't think of any games the Pro runs at native 4k, and any games it may run in 4k it skims the textures down considerably to do so and the frame rate takes a big hit. I wouldn't buy a TV with that console in mind, I would start looking into what TV you want for next gen instead.

I disagree.

Native 1440p checkerboarded up to 2160p with HDR, you can really tell the difference between 1080p and I'm on a 150" screen so I can tell you for sure.

Frame rate doesn't take that big of a hit, Uncharted 4 looks fudging amazing etc..
dustin11
Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
13-Nov(#72)
resolution can be anything they want it to be, but if the textures aren't there then the game won't look good regardless. One of the biggest differences is how much better RDR2 looked on the X1X which shows what happens when a dev puts effort into taking advantage in a system's hardware.

It's not "up to 4K", it's blurry 1440p. big boo. I'm fine defending the library, but that system makes games look like garbage, and often times poorly running garbage. Better than OG, maybe, but I draw the line at "amazing". That system was limping before it was released. If they'd taken the same time Microsoft had in their refresh I don't think anyone would be arguing it's a poor 4K machine I think, they would have properly demolished Microsoft's platform instead of giving them a leg to stand on. It's like taping cards onto your bike spokes instead of getting something that makes proper noise, but if you like the bike, that's fair game.

The one thing I'll give it is that its UPSCALING (not 1440p blur filter) for 1080p content is superb. All the Konami collections and the like look very sharp, as they should, and the 1080p streaming at least looks better than what you'd get from a Switch output on 4K, for instance, and the (one) streaming app that actually does 4K (Netflix) was nice... My real issue is that it doesn't actually do 4K on almost anything when that's precisely what it was marketed to do, they just threw dumb terms around to justify its failure to deliver because they held back on hardware. The X, on the other hand, comes much closer to delivering 4K native rendering across the board for supported games AND does 4K media and streaming, which would be all the more commendable if it had a comparable exclusive library (it doesn't). But I'll take what 4K I can get. If I wanted 1440p, I'd be gaming on my PC, which can at least play crap at 144fps at that resolution instead of sub-30. raspberry

RDR2 was pretty stark, but I think the most shocking for me was Bloodstained when compared between the two platforms; a game that should have had no issues playing on either console at 4K was playing on PS4 Pro at sub-1440p at sub-40fps. What the actual hell.

Not trying to start a war, just sharing my thoughts. I'd certainly wait for the PS5 which has a much, much higher chance of not being so disappointing. I think paying more than $250 for the PS4 Pro this close to PS5's launch would be throwing a lot of money into a trash bin, but if you can find a steal of a deal, it'd make sense to pick up over a slim, certainly. But if I were buying new this holiday, I'd go slim or stick with the slim if I had one.

Microsoft handed off the X1X development to the Surface team, which is why it is so much better built than any of their previous consoles. Not sure Sony has a hardware team on that level. Cerney was banking on RPM and it turned to be fools gold and never worked as he was claiming it would.

I was honestly shocked at how solid the 1X platform ended up being for the cost when comparing performance to the PS4 Pro; makes me all the more sad that MS was already lagging way behind in the software department at that point. If it could have launched with that, we might have seen some real impressive console war benefits, but Sony pretty much coasted to the bank and only did what they had to when they had to (like X-platform policies during Fortnitegate and whatever that PS Classic crap was instead of properly porting their back library to their current gen console).

It's a good thing Sony snagged up Insomniac before the next generation hit, that'll give them a good head-start moving forward with their existing dev barn, because I think Microsoft will be pushing back much harder this gen. Should be fun to watch.

Again I don't agree.

I have both systems and even games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider look identical unless you pause it and shove your head into the screen. The X1X doesn't run everything at native 4K, and so much has to do with game optimization anyways.

If you ask an X1 person they're going to say how much better the 1X is, but my experience has been it's not really much better other than frame rate sometimes.

For my money, the point is the PS4 Pro looks much much better on a 4K HDR setup than an OG or Slim does or a Pro on a 1080P set.

So we can quabble over how good the checkerboarded 2160p output is but in the end it looks amazing on a 4K set.

Games like Uncharted 4, Spiderman, HZD, look incredible on 4K HDR and I would recommend someone own a capable set and use a Pro. It doesn't have as much raw horsepower as the X1X but it looks amazing.

Wait for PS5 in my opinion it'll be out exactly a year away unless they release early, stock up ps4 titles you'd want to play since ps4 is playable on PS5

I think the one game that has a significant difference between the two consoles is with RDR2 where were huge differences between the two versions. Some other games there isn't much of a difference, and other games there are no differences. Comes down to the developer and how much effort they want to put into the game.
