I was thinking of upgrading my PC next month, but my specs are

i7 6700
16GB
GTX 1080

I don't really feel like I need to upgrade any of that right now, so I was thinking of getting a monitor or jumping into VR I never tried it and as a kid was always fascinated with the future and virtual reality. right now i been gaming on a 4k 60 hz TV if i get a monitor it would be a 2k ultra wide ips 144hz monitor would that be much of an improvement? would the games look better then a 4k tv? if not i rather try VR becuase i never played on 144hz im perfectly fine with playing at 60 fps for now.

Your system is more than fine for either VR air Ultrawide as it is, and GPU prices are in the toilet right now anyway. I wouldn't upgrade anything in the system to be honest.

VR was an absolute game changer for me. I went from playing a few hours of games every week to consistently playing an hour or more each day with a VR headset. There's a lot more games that you think for them!

1440p 144hz monitor's the best $400 I've ever thrown at a system. In retrospect Dell's GSYNC model was onsale recently for about $400 shipped, but even without GSYNC for Nvidia or Freesync for AMD (I own Nvidia) 144hz is yuuuuuge. As is a 27'' 1440p monitor!

Don't throw money away on old headsets yet, prices should start tanking when people convert up, or you can get the good headset instead. raspberry

Also, VR's gimmicky crap

Also, I wouldn't even necessarily go for a UW, unless you've got your heart set on it. Lots of games support it well, many do not and you're gonna have to dick around a bit to get them to work correctly, if they work at all.

I'm just sure that IPS 144hz UW's gonna have a disgusting mark-up. IPS if you have to, but I'd definitely cut UW if you're concerned at all about price.
