The next gen cards are coming. Part of the issue right now, from what I understand, is that production is down for the current cards because they are ramping up for the new ones. So, that should help soon, I think. When they new cards come out, you'll have two groups:
1. People that bought lots of current cards are over-inflated prices so they won't be able to buy the new ones.
2. Miners that scoop up a bunch of the new ones (because they are crazy) -- and will have older ones to sell off.
So, I THINK it will be good for gamers. Basically, those that want the brand new ones will hopefully be able to get one. But, maybe more importantly, there may be a bunch of slightly used ones on the market for those that want to buy the current gen (1070/1080/570/580) cards used.
And, heck, even right now, they've come down quite a bit -- mining income is way down right now and prices of cards on EBay has dropped along with it. You can actually pick up today's cards like the 570 or 580) at reasonable (i.e. near MSRP) now and then.
