No not that game genie you silly bugger. Imagine you wake up tomorrow to a genie who can grant your 3 biggest video game related wishes. What would they be?

Mine would be:

1) Lost Odyssey 2
LO is one of my favorite games and I've wanted a sequel since it came out. To me, it's by far the closest thing we've had to classic final fantasy style rpgs since X. I would 100% buy an Xbox One just for this game.

2) Final Fantasy IX PS4 Remake
My personal favorite game of all time and I would wet myself for a remake with today's graphics. And none of that FF7 remake nonsense where they change just about everything about it.

3) Paper Mario 3
I absolutely love the original Paper Mario and TYD, but then they changed it. Super Paper Mario was fine, but I don't want this sticker or paint crap. Give me a new Paper Mario in the mold of the first two. I'd also settle for a Super Mario RPG 2 instead.

oh wow I only get three... I don't have to use one on beyond good and evil 2 now so hey lol.

Final Fantasy 6 PS4 remake, your idea of a 9 is great too.

a new sid meiers pirates game that stays extremely true to the series.

for bioware to be what they used to be

Banjo Kazooie sequel that stays true to the original gameplay, none of that weirdness from Tooie where you like 8 different types of eggs and the levels are all massive but empty at the same time and the only thing to do is a bunch of fetch quests and back tracking.

Skies of Arcadia sequel and/or remaster. Still my favorite RPG of all time. Since Sega owns Atlus they should give them the project, but I don't want any of that stupid weeb high school BS or action RPG junk making its way into SoA. I would rather see the series dead before I see that.

New Conkers Bad Fur Day. They need a team with great humor to pull this one off and for them to not be afraid of pleasing the PC Police. A game like that would be greatly needed right in this SJW climate.

1.) Quest Switch (Quest 64 2)

2.) A PS4 console or peripherial that works exactly like the Switch

3.) Dragon Quest complete collection on Switch (remastered or not)

Honorable mention: 4K wireless PSVR that also detects movement and causes no headaches, sweating, diziness, or motion stickness (even when played for several hours)

Apples stupid pricing would already keep them out of the market. No one wants an underspeced $1000 console that runs slower once the next version comes out.

Also, I need to somehow fit getting a new/remastered Blue Stinger onto my list.

Heck yes. Golf Story was a fine indy effort, but it lacked the polish of a big company, and the golf mechanics weren't as tight/deep.

i think they have the list of games that play pretty well up to about 25 percent of the library, which isn't bad considering its still a work in progress. persona 5 was the one they got running that really started getting attention on them, some of the big hitters like red dead redemption and the like are a way off, but they have made progress lately. by the end of the year i'll bet they have it well over 50-60%, a huge breakthrough they made at the end of the year had dozens of games working that wouldn't before. they have pretty regular updates, i need to check up on the 360 one, Xenia, again and see where those guys are.

Wish for different decisions to be made on key moments...

1. Sony and Nintendo do partner for the SNES CD-ROM drive.
2. Nintendo chooses to use CD-ROMs for the N64.
3. Nintendo chooses to use DVD-ROMs for the Gamecube.
4. Wii U is renamed to...anything but the Wii U...Nintendo Tablet...Nintendo 2S (2 screens, though probably be confused with the DS)

Hmmm...obviously this situation would never happen in real life, but I still wanted to put some thought into it as if there was a chance it someday could happen and I single-handedly could make gaming better for everyone...but I wouldn't because I'm selfish.

Wish #1: I would make it a law that if you're a game company and your game is only one console generation old, you are not allowed to re-release it as a definitive edition, "deluxe edition" or "remaster". You should've gotten it right the first time.

Wish #2: The mostly out of touch oldfarts running things over at Nintendo of Japan would start letting Nintendo of America and Europe have more of a say in how things are done. Wii U and Switch have great indie support and it sure isn't because Nintendo of Japan had anything to do with it. I can guarantee we'd have a better online service too instead of just the bare minimum that we get now.

Wish #3: All fanboys and anyone claiming to be "PCMasterRace" will wake up tomorrow with cancer. And AIDS.

Hmm... tough call...

1. Burst the bubble pricing on retro games. I'd like to be able to get some games without needing a mortgage.
2. End the whole digital only phase. This includes patches- especially day 1 patches.
3. Return us to the glory days of 16-bit RPGs, a time when good games were a lot cheaper to make.

I'd make something similar to this for my number two...

Fully working and complete games out of the box. That means games are properly tested and debugged prior to going to press, there's no nickel and diming for DLC that should have been included in the base game, etc. That may mean base games get more expensive, but I'd be OK with that compared to the DLC-everything price model we have today.

And I just thought of Wish #3.

Demos. For every game. Meaningful demos that give you a solid sense of the full game. Because if #2 happens and they start charging higher prices, you want to know what you're getting.

2. Nintendo Pro Wrestling: a revival of the long-dormant Pro Wrestling ip. Finally, The Amazon has come back to anything. Would love to see AKI (or whatever they're calling themselves now), Spike, or ideally Nintendo themselves handle development. I would buy a Switch for this.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback was good, since it allowed you to switch between the new graphics and the old sprites with a press of a button during gameplay. Just update that with updated rosters every year. Easy money.

It was western mimic garbage with goofy colors for each team and no team editor. It's 2D mode was also based on the SNES version, which no one cares about.

The reason Tecmo football worked and is still great today is 100% because it was made in Japan. Farming the name out to western devs who might understand football, but not Tecmo Bowl, is not what me or any other fan is looking for.

1. Revival of nearly dead genres (platformer, run 'n gun, open level keys and mazes FPSs etc.). For every Shovel Knight, there are a hundred cheap indie imitations of retro genres. It doesn't even have to be big budget, just more than a team of college kids with a Kickstarter budget and no artistic skills making a retro style game because it's cheap.

2. Everything runs at a minimum of 60fps. We don't need some magical genie hardware boost for this to happen. Stop pushing consoles past the limit where they can run games smoothly for the sake of nice looking trailers and screenshots.

3. Puzzles in games need to be more challenging. Outside of something like The Witness, game puzzles are mostly busywork, not puzzles. Games don't need to be freaking Myst, but they need to be way more than "to keep the switch down, push a block onto it!"

They should've taken The Top 100 and made it a Switch game. Make sure that if you play the main game mode, you actually play a mini-game after everyone has had a turn, instead of a arbitrary balloon. Also, make all games unlocked from the start. Making a fun Mario Party for the Switch is a no brainer.

Sega could do a compilation of both the DC and Saturn, name their price, and I would buy it day 1. They could do a mini console and I would buy that too, just as long as they don't outsource the manufacturing/design of it to that same company that made the previous Sega Mini gun consoles.

Playing any Saturn game for free is very easy with original hardware now. Which is good because the emulation does suck. I get that everyone doesn't want that hardware lying around though. Definitely sucks that they didn't bother to make more titles available digitally on the likes of XBLA or PSN, guess they thought it was too much work.

If 16/32-BIT JRPGs and 2D side scrollers ever got as big as they used to be during that era, I think Sega would probably test the market again. As it stands now I think those are kind of niche markets still.

Ya its def niche. The crowd that continues to make Call of duty a top seller every year won't be interested. I work with so many of these "Bubba gamers" when they hear I game they are like oh what are you playing? Cod? Madden? Gta? And I'm like tokyo xanadu, and they get this confused look lol. They wouldnt know what a saturn is

Same here. My boss and I were talking about what we've been playing recently and the conversation was pretty much focused on Defense Grid 2, Sunset Overdrive, and Rare Replay. I've personally not played a CoD game since 4, BF game since BC2, Madden since 06 (for the easy achievements), or a GTA game since when I played about 20 seconds of it on the PS2. Game big named games I can get, like Mario Kart, Mario, Donkey Kong, or Zelda since those shaped gaming more than just about anything else, but looking at the NPD top 10 games every month can almost make you lose faith in gamers as a whole. I agree as well, Sega makes a Saturn Mini and people wouldn't know WTF it even was. May as well just relaunch the Jaguar at that point, lol.

Mario is consistently excellent. Odyssey is the one game right now that gnaws at me to buy a Switch.

And yeah even at "retro" game stores here someone will mention what they are playing and it will be like Ass Creed, GTA, COD etc...

It's like the current culture of geeky stuff being cool.. we get a lot more content..but a lot of it isn't good. Same with games. The companies need these people's money..but it can overshadow the gems.

yes

I do have a modded saturn, and it actually doesn't look half bad on an hdtv using and s-video to hdmi converter.

Saturn Svideo is pretty close to RGB with a good Svideo cable. I've played both ways extensively. The big key is a proper svideo cable as there are a lot of crap ones out there. I use an old PC CRT monitor and it looks hot af.

Speaking of which, new one for the game genie: RGB cables that don't end in SCART.

Are there official Saturn S-video cables? I feel like I bought cheap ones, but they seem to work great. Hmmmmm.....

There are, but they are overpriced and it has composite with the cable as well. Which isn't ideal.

This is what I was using and it isn't much more than the cheapy cables: https://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Quality-Sega-Saturn-...

1) new HAL Laboratory pinball game. Dust off President Iwata's old notebooks for those sweet pinball physics and make some equally beautiful Nintendo tables.

2)Capcom and Sega join Arcade Archives preferably on Nintendo Switch. Neorune wants a decent portable version of Power Stone. Revenge of Death Adder would be pretty cool too.

3) For future generations of game designers and gamers to follow the example that President Iwata set.

I'd like a proper new KAZe pinball game. Akira Psychoball left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't think they even make video games anymore.

Huge Capcom and Sega comps on Switch sound sweet.

1. Super Mario World 2 - An actual follow-up to SMW, or at least a completely new pixel-graphic, 2D Mario platformer in the vein of Super Mario World. With the technology these days and newer power-ups that could be implemented, a nice lengthy SMW 2 would be my ultimate gaming wet dream. Heck, I wouldn't even mind an Octopath Traveler "HD 2D" presentation (as I've mentioned before). Just give me those classic-looking sprites, the "New" Super Mario Bros. aesthetic just doesn't touch the classic games in my opinion.

2. Final Fantasy IX-2 (or a spiritual successor) - I dig the idea of an HD remake like FFVII, but I want a whole new adventure in that world. I either want a direct sequel or an equal-adventure spin-off featuring side (or completely new) characters. Or, at the very least, just a new JRPG with as much depth and similar aesthetic as FFIX. Hand-drawn backgrounds are a must, a fantasy setting featuring various fairytale-style races, steam engines and airships, AND TETRA MASTER PLS.

3. A true, honest-to-goodness Star Wars MMORPG - I can understand why The Old Republic is popular, but it's blatantly a "pay to progress" game with half-baked graphics and mechanics. I want a fully fledged Star Wars universe (OT era preferably, but any era from that point on would work) that draws from all the lore, mythology and technology of the movies, with space-faring exploration similar to what was promised from No Man's Sky, and locations, characters, gameplay, combat and story-altering choices similar to what I imagine a mix between KOTOR and the Mass Effect series would feel like. And I want this available on consoles, not just PC, similar to a game like Elder Scrolls Online. MAKE IT HAPPEN DISNEY.

If I got 4 wishes:
Bioshock Infinite II (or something) - I love Infinite (just beat it for the first time today) and the story was one that I feel shouldn't be revisited. The SETTING, however, is ripe for more adventures. Columbia is such an immersive, aesthetic-driven location, with interesting commentary on the racial division that's part of America's history, it's almost a shame that it's only in one game. We pretty much see the city's downfall at the end of Infinite, but due to that game's use of alternate dimensions, it'd be easy to bring it back. That, or simply do an unconnected prequel set before the ending of Infinite. I personally feel like there lots of avenues that could be explored with that setting, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

Bleh. You'd have to pay me and benstylus (a fat sack of quarters would be acceptable in this case) to drive the necessary 3-4 hours to get to the nearest D&B or the like, and you'd better make darn sure that they have Daytona 3.

/goes back to imagining how awesome a Luigi's Mansion pinball table would be
