Topic   Konami Rumored to Remake Metal Gear Solid V

Thought this was an interesting read on Reddit someone posted. Apparently during Gamescom next week, Konami will do the unveiling. It makes no sense to me other than wanting to incorporate Ground Zeroes into The Phantom Pain on 1 disc or in 1 game rather to start with the opening prologue section of MGS V being Ground Zeroes. The rest is complete bollocks and only seems to me they want to continue to twist the dagger that was left in Kojima's back saying look what we're doing to your last game with us! Take that, hatless! I mean, why would you kill off Quiet?! She was the best supporting character IMO! What would be salt on the wound even more is if this rumored remake launches the same day as Death Stranding. Ouch.

I mean MGS V was a snore fest, I gave up on it. If they can make it better, by all means, as it's the only one I didn't finish.

Why the hell would you remake a game this soon after it was released and while we're still in the same console generation that the game was originally launched in? Thats just stupid.

I got bored by three. I almost just turned off my ps2 when the snake eater song played. Didn't finish four.

I would kinda love a remake of MGS 2. First game I ever pre-ordered and first console game I actually ever finished. Loved it so much but I have been largely turned off by the series. The only other good game in the series besides the 1st is MGS 4. I have 5 but I have not given it a chance to be honest... maybe played for 30 min it just seemed boring and I quickly lost interest.

We almost need Splinter Cell to come back to give the Metal Gear franchise a kick in the as it needs.

That ending of 4 though... Gdamn.

I barely remember anything about 3 as I binged it. Hell, maybe I didn't finish it, don't remember. In retrospect, 2 was all about the game play at the time, story was horrible.

Soooooooo let's remake 1!

I played 1, got bored and stopped. I heard 2 was AMAZING so I played it all the way through and wasn't too impressed. Tried to play 3 but the story was just terrible, and then I tried to play Ground Zeros and got bored and quit. The series to me has always been incredibly over rated and I don't much care for any of them that I've played.

Surprised how many people here don't enjoy MGS. I always thought the series was pretty well liked and respected.

I personally love the games. Went through the whole series again including in preparation for MGS V and loved the ride all over again.

I love most of them, MGS1-4, PW, MGS GBC, VR missions. I'd put MGS4 in my top 10 games ever. I played like 5 hours of MGSV and realized it was going to be longer than I'm willing to put into it. I don't have the endurance for endless games, even when they're very good.

MGS V was indeed a snooze fest, agreed, but don't taint the man's work. That's just digging the nail in deeper. You won Konami. He no longer works for you. Why must you beat the dead horse into submission?

And yeah, if I had to rank all the MGS games I played the 5th one is down at the bottom. Nothing will ever touch Twin Snakes for me. I beat it on the 'Cube 5x, unlocked the James Bond tuxedo suit and still wanted more.

1. MGS: Twin Snakes
2. MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots
3. MGS 3: Snake Eater (prob cause I'm a huge James Bond nerd)
4. MGS 2: Sons of Liberty
5. MGS V: The Phantom Pain

Love the Splinter Cell games! Would say it was my 2nd favorite all time series. ( and you know my #1 lol )
SC is one reason why I went with the Xbox One this time around because of the BC and 360 having a game not on the others ( Conviction , I think ).

Yeah, Conviction was the one that was 360 exclusive. The entire SC library is BC on the X1 now including the OG Xbox version of Double Agent which I heard is a different game than the one for the 360.

I have never been able to get into the Metal Gear series, I'll probably try again eventually. I know I played some Twin Snakes on Gamecube and then MGS 4 when it came out on PS3 but I had no clue what was going on in that game. When MGS V came out I tried it out because of all the hype, I thought the intro was awesome and was hoping the game would keep that style going but it quickly switched to the open world which had a great soundtrack but not much else to keep me playing at the time.

The Leaderboard on youtube actually did a very good timeline video that really helps understand who is where and when and how they are connected and the games do not do that at all and what they do is very bad.

Why wouldn't they just reboot the whole series starting with the first title?

A remake of the latest mainline game would be a marketing nightmare.

I don't think they're making anything anymore, game wise. Their last few games were those compilations and then maybe MGS Survive and now the've got that new Contra game coming out. Other than that they've been pretty dry. Even those last gen Castlevania games were made outside of Konami.

I did hear that the old president who was in charge of Konami stepped down, the guy who was gung ho for nothing but pachinko slot machines and mobile gaming, and a new guy stepped in who is trying slowly to have Konami reenter the gaming biz as they once were and Contra Rogue Corps could be the start of them reentering the fray, or so I hope.

This ^

There is definite room for improvement. For all the love that Kojima gets, and all the hate that Konami gets... I feel like Kojima did bone Konami over with a less than a satisfactory package with MGS V.

This is coming from someone who has played most MGS games and beaten 1, 2 & 4,

I hope Konami re-releases it and make it a better game so that I can give it a shot again.

What amazes me is all the 10/10 scores MGS 5 got even though it appears that gamers didn't really feel the same way. Part of me thinks that the game rode on the established MGS name, the other part of me thinks that maybe it was mostly due to having Kojima's name attached to it.

All of that is true and then just the standard of paying for reviews. If a game even gets a 7 it's an abject failure apparently so the marketing powers that be would never allow that.

I've really, really tried to get into MGS5 and I feel like it's a very well done and quite a polished game...but it's not keeping my interest at all. I had it on my shelf for at least 9 months before I eventually tried it, and after a couple nights I moved on. I've since tried it again twice, over another many months, and I almost always want to play something else as soon as I start it up.

MGS4 had some really bonkers bits (I barely remember it but there was something about a vampire...sigh) but overall I remember it quite fondly and at the time I was really impressed playing through it.

As for the original topic, I'd expect this to just be a "Complete Edition" that bundles in everything released so far for MGS5 at a budget price.

The MGS5 hate in this thread makes me a little sad. It's a slow burn and it'll take a little while for it to get its hooks in you. It took me 3 tries to finally get into it, but once I did, I was obsessed with it for a good 2-3 months! I still maintain that if we are talking about a pure stealth experience, Chaos Theory is the only game in history that i'd put in the same league as MGS5. Its gameplay is near perfect, imo and it does things in an open world that still blow my mind even today. It certainly has its issues, but I won't go into that since I want to make this a positive post. I just think the people who have maybe played it for 2-3 hours should consider giving it another try.

MGS5 is incredible. It improves on everything but the wildly incomprehensible mess of a story that's plagued the series for decades, and dares to break the mold by being something the series, up to that point, was not: an open-ended tactical espionage game with a focus on the tactical espionage GAMEPLAY. I was super engaged all the way to the first credits crawl. It did to MGS what Breath of the Wild did to Zelda.

...a REMAKE... I'm scratching my balls on this one.

I loooved the original and beat it multiple times, I grew to love MGS2, couldn't get into MGS3 (i found it hard to be honest, missed the radar, and gave up pretty early), started MGS 4 and it kinda blew me away but for some reason never got back to it which I regret, and I have 5 but havent started it
Feel like I should go thru 4 first, maybe just watch a story recap of 3 or something?

DarkFact
GameTZ Subscriber 350 Trade Quintuple Gold Good Trader Has Written 4 Reviews

Recap of 3 and 4 would probably be better than playing through both these days (MGS3's pretty solid though, I'd say if you can risk it playing both would probably be fine), but MGS5 doesn't need either of them to be playable, obviously; it has its own story to tell that just supports the timeline. It is uninhibited by modern bullcrap.

MGS4 does this annoying thing where everything you learned about MGS3 turns out to be mostly bullcrap anyways, or grafted as a shortcut. Honestly the fourth game does its best to destroy pretty much everything that came before it. People have done essays on the retarded logical jumps MGS4 asks you to make in order to take it seriously. I think MGS4 could have been a better story with some tweaks and a LOT of dumpstering, but that would have cut two hours of dialogue out so that won't do, this is Kojima, dog

To be fair open-world games aren't my thing when single player... I end up losing interest because I'm a completionist and the open-world million things to do concept just breaks me because you can never complete everything (or I don't have the time to). Or something like that...

I did give MGSV a solid shot, I had gotten quiet and done a couple of bosses I think.

Plus i get easily distracted and then go off on constant tangents
And a lot of times it's just go to point A then point B and then point C, so it gets repetitive
