@PizzaTheHutt I use this doohickey thing that lets me use a Pro Controller in portable mode. Most games I use it, especially dexterity games.

@Shane12m I'll stick to Japanese and reading English, I survived the PS1 era where voice acting didn't exist. That and reading it is faster than waiting for the voice actor to get out all the words.

The thing that lets you mount the Switch tablet to the Pro Controller? I saw you post that a year or two ago, I ended up buying one too and that's how I play in portable mode.

I'm in the minority. My pro controller just sits there collecting dust. When I play docked, I use it for a few games, but I love the freedom of not being stuck with both hands forward together.

I can agree with that at least for first-person shooters (and Splatoon). The gyro aiming feels better when you are aiming with just your right hand instead of having to tilt the whole Pro Controller.

Welp, Kirby 64 can be added to the list of NSO N64 games with new problems that aren't there on original hardware.
https://old.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/u...

Disappointing, but not entirely unexpected since it has been happening to several other games. These mofos used to get praised for never half-assing their stuff. It makes sense now why they only give one game per month.
I'm only half trolling. I assume it'll be fixed just like the other games, but it still sucks it is a problem to begin with.

Does anyone know if there's any possibility of Goemon's Great Adventure or Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon coming to Nintendo Switch Online? Or is there some type of rights issue that would make that impossible?

Konami released several of the Goemon games on the virtual console (in Japan), so I don't think it's a rights issue (maybe for the song vocals though).

I just think Konami has increasingly lost their way over the past several years.

I beat Captain Toad on Wii U back when it came out, but I finally beat it on Switch. I found all gems and completed the bonus objective on every single level, including the DLC. Two of the levels in particular were REALLY hard.

First, the final level of the regular game, Mummy-Me Maze Forever. Based on it's name and how the level plays, I thought the level literally never ended, so I only played it a couple times on the Wii U but didn't care to grind it out to see how high of a score I could get. On the Switch, I was determined to get 100%, and the bonus objective for this level was to get 5,000 coins. Usually you have to complete a level for the bonus objective to count, but since I thought this level never ended, I figured you just had to get 5,000 coins before dying. After a lot of attempts, I finally got 5,000 coins, died, and the objective didn't trigger. I looked it up, and the level DOES end, on the 50th floor. The furthest I had made it up until that point was around 39 I think. After 35, it starts to get REALLY hard. The most annoying thing is just how long each attempt takes (about 15-20 minutes). I had 3 runs in a row where I got to either floor 47, 48, or 49, and each time died to the same enemy, the piranha plant that shoots a fireball at you. That thing is so hard to avoid! After wasting way too much time on the level, I finally decided to look up some tips to see if there was something I was missing. Well, I had completely forgotten you could tap an enemy on the screen to stun it for a couple seconds! It's a bit awkward to do while you're avoiding other things and constantly moving so that the mummy doesn't catch you, but once you get used to it, it helps a lot. It only took me a couple more attempts after that to finally beat it. I don't think that trick made ALL the difference though, I had gotten a lot of practice at that point. This was easily one of the hardest levels I've ever beaten, in any video game.

Second, the final level of the DLC. This one is similar, there's a mummy chasing you and 30 floors. It's not very hard to beat normally, but the bonus challenge requires you to pick up 3 toad friends along the way and get all of them to the end with you, which is really hard. I think this level would have taken a lot longer, but all of the practice from the other level helped me beat it relatively quickly.

So I needed new Joy Cons (again), and I absolutely wasn't about to pay Nintendo prices for a new set. Ended up getting a pair for $40 that are real good quality, nice and solid.

Each one has 2 "turbo buttons" on them. I know plenty of controllers and gamepads have turbo buttons, but I still don't have a single clue as to wtf turbo buttons even do. Can someone fill me in? Specifically what a turbo button would do in a Switch game?

I'm both impressed and the opposite of impressed that there's such a button. Do you know how many tries of super quick button mashing it took for several of us to beat a certain part of Star Fox Adventures? Wasn't easy.

Yah that's what my left official Nintendo Joy Con does. It also has drift. The right one's R button just doesn't work. They lasted like 4 years but yah, they suck.

And then the first pair of 3rd party cons I got were fine but cheaply made and then the pad of the joystick popped off and wouldn't go back on.

So I got these bad jerks, so far so good:

Yup, it's my left one that does it as well. All I'm playing now is Triangle Strategy and since it doesn't need good finger dexterity I just use them. Otherwise I got this thing that lets me use a Pro Controller in portable mode.

Has anyone played both Octopath Traveller and Triangle Strategy? I watched a tiny bit of both the Japanese and English audio for Triangle Strategy since it will be coming up next on the docket. The reason I did that is someone posted about the "horrible English VA". And when I compare those 2 games. Octopath had really good English VA, and Triangle's VA is definitely noticeably worse. And I wonder why?

Isn't it the same studio? Did they just spend less on Voice Actors? Just curious what you guys have heard, or think about the difference in VA quality of these 2 games.

No idea. But probably. Maybe they looked at metadata showing that most people either used Japanese dialogue or skipped much of it entirely, and figured it wasn't worth the extra expense?

Finished Kirby and the Forgotten Land tonight. Really solid game overall with a lot of charm. It actually gets somewhat challenging toward the end, especially the bonus levels. I did everything for 100% except collecting all of those figures, which is a waste of time. I got all of the ones that you actually have to earn, the rest you have to just keep re-playing levels or buying them from the machines, and it's random what you get every time, so screw that.

Interview with the Nintendo Switch Sports development team.
https://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/ask-the-develope...

A couple of highlights:
At one point early on they had a prototype where the characters are robots instead of Miis.

In early stages of the game they were not using motion controls.

Even though the game is light on content, they don't give an exact number but apparently this game was in development for a few years.

well, with E3 not happening this year, there's the hope that N will do the same kind of big direct at Game Fest this week...but that is looking less and less likely with the more time that passes. also, N isn't listed on their partners page either: https://www.summergamefest.com/#partners-intro

that said, there should be one this month if they stick to their normal schedule. just might be outside the official Game Fest schedule

Apparently Nintendo has been working on a sequel to 1-2 Switch (I know we were all asking for that) called Everybody's 1-2 Switch, but it isn't going well and they don't know what to do with it anymore.
Looks like they were going for a game show style theme like the Jackbox games where additional players (up to 100) would play using their mobile phone or tablet.

Minigames would ask players to physically move around the environment for things like Musical Chairs, or use their phone to play Bingo. There was even a game that resembled a virtual version of Spin the Bottle that involved saying something nice about another person.

It tested horribly.

When playtesting groups received the game, the feedback to the development team was brutal. The target audiences Nintendo was hoping to hit -- families with children -- found the games boring; many didn't even want to play through entire rounds. In the Bingo example, one player would use the joycon to mime digging out a number before reading it off the TV screen -- a process that playtesters reported as tedious.

Further down in the article:
It is unclear what Nintendo plans to do with the game now. Some sources have said Nintendo executives will not be swayed on the idea of a full $60 retail release for the game, citing how well the original 1-2 Switch did in similar circumstances with a poor critical consensus. Some others within the company have suggested making the game an add-on bonus to the higher tier of Nintendo Switch Online, similar to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons -- Happy Home expansion and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe booster pack, especially as the game is so dependent on online play for massive lobbies. The quality might matter less, sources argue, if no one is actually paying anything (extra) for it.

Xbox/Bethesda is going next week. My guess is if N has anything to show this month it'll be next week. I think we'll see one, but if not no big deal. They've done well enough imo showcasing/advertising their stuff lately.

Interestingly a lot of smoke around a Goldeneye remaster including allegedly employees of MS unlocking achievements related to it and an accidental posting of the achievement list on their profile. Hopefully they continue to play nice and share with N if it gets a release.

I'm not sure, but I wonder if there aren't many online in the game, or if their matchmaking is terrible? I keep running into many of the same players.
