I would be surprised if that happens very often. Some companies don't care if their games go BC, but others don't want any part of it, especially if they want to release remasters and milk their library of games. I think in a gen or 2 when streaming is the main method of gaming then stuff like this will completely eliminated because their game appears on, say Xcloud, and since there are no generations for that then licensing and BC is no longer ever an issue from that point on. Its just an inherent issue with consoles and having different generations.

My point is they added a new system but didn't increase the number of overall games being added. Throwing N64 into the mix will stretch each one even thinner. The NES library was already pretty rounded out before they started doing SNES, but SNES is still kind of small and missing some very key titles. I'd like for them to keep focusing on that before it's 1 title per system each month or something like that.

Is this just for XBLA/PSN-only games? Or does this include regular AAA games if you bought them digital?

If the game is BC and you bought it on the 360 then it will show up in your "ready to download" in your "games and aps" on the X1. Nothing has been confirmed for next gen yet other than they will be BC but there is nothing confirmed with if thats 100% BC with current gen or not, but the fact that they've not confirmed that means that they're probably at the mercy of the devs as to what games move forward with you.

I don't get that logic though. I mean why should it? Why can't they just release the darn games. Adding one shouldn't effect anything, and even if it did, they're not adding the games people want anyway.

At 3 years in, with all of these games being like, 20+ years old, there's not much excuse. I feel the other consoles had much more variety and sooner with virtual console. I'd be fine if they did it monthly with 1 good game and the others being obscure/crapty games. Like let's say Donkey Kong Country with a random 64, GB, and NES game. And then next month rotate a highly acclaimed game on a different platform, etc.

ya like dustin said its any game that is backwards compatible. i am thinking spencer said on stage its supposed to be 100% back compatible going forward and they were going to be the leader on that, but i'll see if i can find that again. he may have meant you will be able to play your discs always, but online store offerings may be different unless you had purchased it before. the discs though for back compat games actually just download the game and plays it off the drive not the disc though, so they would have to change how they handle that if thats what they mean. and disc drives will be going away at some point, so i think he means they are working towards your library going with you. there is some spiderman game on playstation i think that isnt available if you never bought it before but its still available for me to download as i had already bought it. so it does happen.

the controllers and accessories are even going to work with the new xbox from what they said, so if you have one of those expensive elite controllers you're already set. that link has the games listed, some of them are even upscaled on the x1 and further enhanced on the x1x. if you bought it digitally and its on that list you can download and play on x1, and you can do mutliplayer with people who play on 360 if its a 360 game even if you are on x1.

Ms 1st party will be 100% bc but they can't force devs into it, so they're leaving it up to them. They've made tools like Game Core which make porting super easy in an attempt to make it more enticing for devs to just say yes and let MS do the work for them. There is also stuff like the Heutch method that MS has patented which updates a bunch of the games assets without touching any of the code and bumps the games up to native 4k even if they're OG xbox games running at 480p. They want the XSX to be an all in one consoles which plays as much of your library as possible.

yeah, just straight up emulation with nothing other than maybe slight image clarity or higher FPS in this day and age is lazy AF. Its something I would expect from 2 gens ago, but if they're doing BC on a substantially more powerful console then those games should look better than it did on hardware that is weaker than a cellphone from 10 years ago. If we're talking emulation of 16-64bit then I can understand, but if we're talking games from PS2 until current gen they those games should look better after emulation.

Oh I agree with you man. They're adding games way too slow, there should be a lot more by now. What I'm saying is based on them sticking with the slow trickle. If they change that, then great, add N64 immediately haha

They need to just throw their online service on Azure and let someone else handle it. They have shown they really don't know how to properly handle the online space and maybe if they offload that aspect of their business then they can focus on putting more games on their service and maybe even do a game pass kind of thing.

Hmm...I need to fire up the XB1 and see which of my 360 games have been brought over. There are some XBLA I purchased on sale and still haven't played, would much rather play them on XB1 at this point.

Probably because a lot of people, myself included, are pissed about a remaster with extra content IN THE SAME GEN. I've said it before- they should have learned that lesson with P3... but they at least offered a cheaper add-on disk in Japan then...

I don't understand that still. How is it different from GOTY games and "complete" and "definitive" editions that release within the same gens all the time. Do you guys have an issue with all of those, or is it something specific to P5? Is it because there's content available that is not available without getting the remaster?

dustin11
Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally

Do GOTY editions typically release at full $60 retail? I don't really keep track so I don't know if they do or not. Those games also typically come with a ton of content too, like 4 DLC packs and a bunch of that stuff.

The account that owns the games can play on any switch.

Other accounts can only play on their accounts on the "main" switch for the owner's account.

So if they never use the main switch, the best thing to do might be to change it so the switch lite is now the main switch associated with your account. You'll still be able to play all your downloaded games on the main switch using your account, and they'll be able to do it on the lite using any account.

Partially, yes. For the GOTY versions, those are usually rereleases with all the DLC bundled in. People who had the original version have the option of buying the DLC to bring their game up to the same standard. However, P5 does not give us this option. You want the content, buy another copy. Never mind also that we're going to tell you to start from scratch again- no NG+ from your regular save. Frankly, with how long the game is, I don't have the time to play the whole game again; NG+ would at least let me breeze through the parts I did already.

Before P4 came out in Japan, Atlus had to release a statement that they were NOT going to repeat what they did with P3 to get people to buy it. The fans did not want to buy it to be told later they got the inferior release on that system. It took the Vita to see the remaster, which still didn't add as much as FES or R did. P5 in my eyes, is another P3 case. I will have pause before buying P6 now because I want to know I'm getting the best version.

Add to this, those of us who bought the deluxe versions of P5. They had the gall to release another deluxe set for P5R, screaming as even more of a cash grab. Again, at least FES didn't have a deluxe release, giving those early adopters with P3 copies some extras not otherwise available.

Remasters and Definitive editions to me are usually a cash grab in my eyes. And they work cause suckers like most of us out there keep buying them. I think the scummy-ish Todd Howard said it the best. "You guys want us to stop making definitive editions of Skyrim? Then stop buying them."

Probably because people forget that this is a console that can go handheld and not a handheld that is also a console. They tend to view it as a handheld and the last major rival handheld, the vita, can do Bluetooth. I don't see it as a huge deal, especially since adapters are out there, but I would like to see it if they can fit it in.

Anyone have any recommendations for Pro Controller attachments that let you attach the switch to your pro controller? The one I had been glowing about was broken after my kids got ahold of it while I was at work and the next batch doesn't ship till late March.

I've always just used my wired headphones with the Switch and have never had an issue with it. One of the reasons why I don't like wireless headphones (other than needing to be charged) is that not everything supports them and when they are supported I seem to get varying results in connection quality between devices. I know that if I plug my phones in then I'm good to go.

I think NSMBU on Switch was what my son first started getting decent at. But since co-op you can bump into each other it was constantly frustrating. DK Country is the jam tho. Give the kid Funky Kong for longevity or you play as him and just buy red balloons for them to keep going with you.

DK:C was infinitely more enjoyable for my fam. We beat Mario and then Luigi's versions and I refuse to play that game ever again. We moved on to Rayman Legends once my son (now 6) got better and he loves that one the most out of all 3. But it's the hardest towards the end.

NSMBU was my daughter's first game, but she just liked using the gamepad to hit enemies and make blocks for me to jump on. The first game she really played and got into was Super Mario 3D World. That game is great for kids because they can easily jump into a bubble and follow along beside you to get past more difficult sections. NSMBU has the bubble too but it's not as easy to use.

I dont want her to know when she gets an alert for her email until she knows her gift.

Hoping for Persona 5, even though it'll be forever till I would play it if Switch ever gets it.

I have an extra copy of 198x if anyone wants it? $10. It's the shortest game ever but I enjoyed it and look forward to the folkow up installment.

I've been playing black flag and runs flawlessly. It's a PS3 port but on a small handheld it looks amazing.

There are very few game announcements that would make me lose my mind. Saboteur 2 or a reboot of some sort is one of those. Unfortunately, the studio that made it is now defunct and EA owns the IP so odds are we'll never see it again frown

Game announcements (most would never happen) that would make me lose my mind would be Dragon Quest IV-VIII on Switch, a Silent Hill 2 remake, Quest 64 sequel (not the handheld games but a real sequel), Nightmare Creatures 3, Silent Hills being made or just Silent Hill 6, Resident Evil 8, Elder Scrolls VI, a Morrowind remake, and a Code Veronica remake.

The one that would really make me lose my crap would be N64-Wii games available digitally on Switch (in any form). That would be amazing.

I'm confident N64 Games will come the same way SNES games did. Announced near the renewal of Online, Sept. E3 at the earliest if they want to sell N64 controllers. I don't see any licensed games coming out sadly, no Goldeneye or Wrestling games. :(

I only see Wii games getting released as remakes on a select basis. Gamecube would probably get the same treatment, but I'd love GC online.

I agree with you. It's still fudging bullcrap that it's been 3 years with no mention whatsoever, and I'm starting to think we'll have to wait for an N64 classic to come and then sell out before we can get it, but I still agree with you. I do think it's coming EVENTUALLY.

The whole licensing thing is an issue, and it's a crapty one. I wish they wouldn't be so cheap. I want Goldeneye and Diddy King Racing on there so badly. I want others too, but those two were among their best sellers.

Wii had digital N64 games. Why would you think Switch wouldn't have digital GC/Wii games? I'm curious.

Does Konami even make real video games anymore? Don't see Silent Hill 6 ever happen unless it's a slot machine or mobile game

Just an opinion, but I believe they think they will make more money releasing a few as upgraded remakes than they will selling online subscriptions that wouldn't otherwise be sold.

I want both Mario Golf and Mario Golf TT on Switch...

Sort of. Mostly slot machines. Lol. It's rumored though.

Seriously.

Everyone: We just want a huge library of legacy titles available to play on the newest device

Nintendo: (crickets)

Nintendo Fanboys: That's impossible!

Microsoft, Apple, Steam, and Sony: Here ya go

To be fair they did it on Wii U, and it failed hard. Not a fair assessment as they totally botched the marketing on that system, and released the idea before it was viable (console/handheld hybrid).

Oh yes, I went fair-fair.

That just makes it worse because we all know they can do it. We all know they would make money. They just won't.

As far as anything being successful on the Wii U, I know you already answered your own question there, and will all of the re-released on the Switch, it's obvious that Nintendo knows that too.
