Doesn't look like there's a discussion thread for PS4, unless I'm blind. Let's discuss PS4, then, in this thread.

Recent news: according to Kotaku, Gamestop is no longer taking preorders for the system. Hope you got your preorder in!

I totally agree with what u say.

But have to say a comment about if they deserve the $60.
Some games yes, even if they are buggy, would be worth full price to me.
Value is subjective to each person.
What are you going to do next gen, when they raise the base price up from $60 for new games. Bc tbh a lot of games are well worth $40 and $60, but would any base game be worth $70-$80?

Has there been confirmation that prices are going up? Games have been $50-60 for a long time now so given inflation I could see costs going up but I am wondering because this would impact things. Of course with all dlc lots of games have already been more than $60 if you want all the content. Since you asked though, I'd keep doing what I'm doing. I rarely buy games at full price now so I'm certainly not doing it at $80, even accounting for 20% off that with stuff like BB GCU.

I suppose I should have said do they deserve full retail for releasing a bugged product, rather than a specific price. It's not so much the exact price point as it is I don't feel companies deserve full price if they want to release a beta version. I wouldn't buy a $30-40 game at launch if it's barely playable. I still haven't bought Ys VIII because of the google translate job they ran on it. I'll get it eventually, probably after it's actually been fixed. Ultimately it's just a principle thing and these companies aren't hurting for purchase I'm just saying we don't have to accept it.

Also, sorry for all this bullcrap. We should talk about games being fun or something.

I've been playing some Shovel Knight again lately (on PS4) and this is really what a proper retro game should be. Well designed, fun and not just an obvious cash-grab with lazy visuals.

Ys VIII got the translation patch last month. It's so much better now.
Also, they have not said for sure that prices on games will be going up, but I could see it happening. Specifically since lootboxes are getting a lot of heat and some companies are greedy

Oh it was actually released? Whoops my bad it is. Last I knew it had been delayed. Looking forward to playing that now.

I could definitely see price increases happening. Like I said we are close to there already with stuff like dlc season passes.

That's why we have season passes and dlc..I've seen alot about this and it said by all rights games should have gone to 70 by now but they people will be mad and they will lose some of those day ones and first week sales and alot of games make the majority of their money in the first couple weeks in comparison to their lifespan...hence they make it up with dlc and microtransactions...which everyone hates but they make billions on them so someone is doing MT's out there.

This is why I miss the days when there used to be game demos before games came out. It would help for situations like a game like KCD. At least have a beta for people to test and if there's any bugs and glitches have the community report it so it can be patched prior to the game's release. The problem with KCD is I believe their budget was really tight, so a beta or demo was probably too costly to come out before the game's release.

Demos were gas.

Didn't know about the tight budget for KCD but that makes sense given that it was a KS from a company that hasn't released a game before iirc. The guy split from 2K Europe or something like that.

Well to be honest, KCD has had a beta on PC for like well over a year. You can see hundreds of videos of people playing the beta, from like at least 1.5 years ago.
I'm pretty sure the budget for this game was $5 million usd, compare that to like the 80 million that Skyrim originally had.
I think it's a great game, i have not had a single crash-that would have me restart the game or system. And most of the bugs are either silly or funny and I'm pretty sure they will get many patched out soon

Lockpicking is better on PC, but the way you have to do it is still odd. I just modded it out. All I need is a lockpick, the required skill level (I can try to pick higher than my skill still but then I'd have to deal with it again), and it opens.

I don't know if any of you guys have played it yet, but World of Final Fantasy is a ton of fun. It's a weird little game, but all the systems work really well for the most part. I'm even getting used to the camera which I wasn't crazy about in the beginning. Every single cameo by a Final Fantasy character has brought a smile to my face. Definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of the series.

Ya I loved it..the game itself is better than average in spots but this game shines in what it's actually meant to be and that is a love letter for those who grew up with the series and remembers fondly their first adventures with these characters. And it's super good at that. I can see someone who hasn't played all the games and doesn't have the memories to think it's very average or even below average..lann is insufferable..he's with vaan as the worst FF character ever for me, but it's not enough to strip the magic away when a great character comes in..at times reenacting a classic scene or alongside a classic theme.

I loved World of Final Fantasy. Easily my favorite FF in the past few years.

Just beat Shadow of the Colossus. It's an amazing experience, like I remember, but after playing The Last Guardian it sort of pales in comparison. I was always more of an Ico fan. Regardless, the remaster is fantastic. Anyone that hasn't played I recommend giving it a shot!

Fallout 4 is all that i got a season pass for. That was only because i got that bundle with the socks and season pass and only paid $10 more than retail, of the regular version.

How did u lose that much? Did u just not save in a bed enough, or was it bc of glitched saves?

I must have gotten lucky, I'm on xbox, and we never got the day one patch, and I have yet to have any major game saving or breaking issue. Sure, plenty of bugs, but mostly funny ones.
Nothing where I had to restart the game or system, or where I lost gameplay, well unless I died and then that would be my fault if I didn't save recently

Lockpicking is hard af. I can see how on PC it's world's better even without a mod. I can do the very east pretty consistent but even the easy is not easy... The sticks just don't recreate the movement of the mouse.. how could this have gotten past them? Did they not play test this and say damn this is crapty. ?

I'd be surprised if they don't do something...they seem to care about the game if you read their forums.. but everyone needs to be on the official kcd forums rasing hell.

I just lost some time..thankfully not much .locked up on load screen. I was running from guards and triggered it..so partially my fault maybe. Probably not meant to do that. I'm considering moving to PC, but OneX is sure pretty on my tv. Thinking combat is probably better on console but other things better on PC?

Edit..well I may have hurt myself..the people of rattay hate me and the main quest continues here so I may have to go a ways back to before I made them mad. I guess I could just do the jail time

I forgot the game doesn't auto save, ever. But then I noticed when you get a new quest it makes a new save. But it doesn't when you complete them. I spent ~3.5 hours completing 4 side quests and just wandering around checking things out. And then the game crashed to dash. At no point did it save and at not point did I think to sleep to make a save because there was no risk of me dying during any of it. So lost all that time.

Now I have 25 save drinks. I just have to remember to use them from time to time.

Today I re did everything I lost in ~45 minutes though. Since I already knew everything. But still, shouldn't have happened.

I don't think I'm gonna like side questing in this game as much as I usually do in these kinds of games but remains to be seen. The console version needed more time. I can see why they wanted to release and stay away from the huge year we have coming though.

They are planning on patching some things regarding the way the game saves and the lockpicking, but they haven't provided details as to how yet. Once you get enough Schnapps, saving is no big deal, but early on it can be slightly annoying.

And yes, even on PC the autosave system is buggy - I found a mod for that, too. The fact that they released some of these mods day 1 is sort of funny.

Regarding KCD on PC, it's sort of a trade-off I guess. It requires a BEAST of a PC to get even 60 frames at 1080p, let alone if you wanted to run it at 4K. But a lot of the systems feel better, and even if they didn't, there's mods that are easy to find and literally drag/drop installation. So to me, it runs worse, but plays better haha.

I was planning on jumping into KCD after I finish up AC Origins, but yeah, seeing all the pleasant experiences you fine folks are having with saving, I think I'll just wait for that patch to polish up the save system since saving in games to me is more important than any bugs, glitches or even difficulty.

me too, my brother has put the game down entirely over it til its patched, i thought he was just doing it wrong, after watching a vid or two trying to find something on it i did my first one very easy lock first try no problem, and can still do those every time. but the increase from very easy to easy is quite large on console, and ive only been able to do one easy out of many tries. im just playing without lockpicking til they patch it. i was about to do the same, sell the xbox one and get pc, but i think overall id still prefer console if they fix this and a couple other little things. so i think i'll stay the course for now since the lockpick patch is supposed to come soon. the save system isnt so bad once you get used to it, it saves when you receive quests, sleep or drink, and you have to sleep nearly every day so its not too bad

im usually pretty alright when it comes to that kind of stuff, and the vids i found said it will get better as your skill improves and you get the strengthen lockpicks perk, but i doubt that is gonna be enough for hard and very hard if easy is this bad, they really should have stuck to just more of less copying bethesda on this

Not really, you play a set guy for a specific narrative. There's different weapon types and such you can specialize in, but not custom like a typical fantasy rpg. No magic or anything like that.

Ya there are a lot of little things...people react if you're dirty or stink (didn't everything and everyone probably smell like complete ass?),. Food spoils, you have to eat and sleep, it talks about how there was just crap everywhere..no wonder disease was so dangerous back then, you literally see privies in hallways ..just cutouts in the wall with holes that drop right into alleys and streets..and its just there for all to see..no door .nothing.. wenches impressed by just taking them for a walk...that must have been nice lol. Npcs don't wait around on you. Main quests wait but side quests move on with or without you...leveling up is based on what you do.. you can't use swords to level your skills with mace's etc..kinda like final fantasy 2..the more you do something the better you get.

The ideas are amazing..and for a small studio what they've done is impressive..but a beta would have been helpful..apparently it was said they just couldn't afford a console beta...which is a shame... It just needs more time. Games like this are something I'd love to see more of, but finished or closer to finished. .

I think I'm gonna put it away till a couple patches come down.

It kinda sounds like KCD will be a title forgotten in about 6 months. I still have sweet games like Kingdoms of Amular to play from last gen. I probably don't need this.

What else is everyone playing on PS4? How many PS4 Pro people do we have here? Anyone playing games that REALLY use that hardware as an upgrade?

I have a PS4 Pro, Admiral. I dig it. yes

Monster Hunter World looked really pretty and the Uncharted games look stunning as does Horizon: Zero Dawn.

I think it makes a difference in certain games that feature HDR, but I think it helps more so that I have an OLED TV that really compliments the hardware of the Pro nicely.

The only thing that somewhat upsets me is that I have that Spidey-Sense feeling that the PS5 is just 'round the corner and will render the Pro obsolete once it drops as I heard rumors that it will play all PS4 games.

@Admiral weren't you buying a monster 4k tv? I'd spring for the Pro if you did.

I've got a Pro and thought I'd be all over the up-tick in resolution but lately I've been going the 60fps route when I have the option and it's really been a great upgrade in that regard.

Wipeout Omega is outrageous though. Every time I play it I'm stunned by how clean and crisp everything is, and how smoothly it runs. Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet & Clank, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Last of Us, and Hitman are also quite improved on Pro.

I ended up trading my PSVR for a brand new Pro. Had I paid $350 or so I think I'd still be pleased overall but not really think it's a must-have. However, when God of War comes out in April it'll be worth every penny to me.

I don't think we'll see the PS5 for another 3 years. Sony is killing it in sales so there's no reason for them to move on yet. The X1X didn't really scavenge sales from them, although it basically being a backwards-compatibility machine does point to Sony maybe following along with the PS5. That would be cool.

i also have a pro and really like it, horizon was really gorgeous, as was shadow of war, monster hunter is pretty amazing too, the lighting and shadows are beautiful. with a really good tv I think its noticeable. I don't have oled but I do have the Samsung ks8000 quantum dot and at the time a year ago it was rated to be the closest you could get to oled without the oled price.

as far as what im playing, I was playing monster hunter and dbz fighterz, and im always on and off of tekken 7 depending on what im playing. I had put the ps4 down to play KCD on the OneX, but im putting that down til its patched up, its super cool and I do want to play it after they get some fixes on it, id thought about switching to pc but looking at the requirements it looks like I should stick to OneX even though my pc is only a few months old. it needs a beastly machine, mine doesn't such but the recommended is slightly above what ive got.

as far as the ps5 being around the corner, I think we're still well over a year away from a reveal on anything from sony or Microsoft, I think they are both poised to show some good stuff at E3 and focus on what they have for a little bit longer. as far as backward compatibility I wouldn't be surprised either way, they've shown they are willing to be without it but there has been so much fan outcry, and with MS showing they are committed to xbox as a platform with BC going forward I wouldn't be surprised if they do include it.

Yeah, at this point if Sony's next system isn't BC, I would be shocked. PS Now doesn't cut it for me when you can pop in an old disc or buy a BC game digitally for dirt cheap as you can on XB1.

I also think and kind of hope they do evolve ps now into something like xbox game pass, you download, not stream and if you want to buy it you get a discount, and first party games day 1, and half the price of ps now. im all about game pass but wont do ps now for double the price and streamed.

I never had an issue with PSNow, and was tempted to buy it at $99 for a year and that right there offers insane value... For me it's not finding WHAT to play it's finding the TIME to play what I have. So I opted not to get it. I will hold on to Game pass to try SoT out but then I am out after that.

I have had my OneX for a few weeks now and it's a quality system but I am drawn more to the PS4 Pro.

Thanks for the input on the Pro guys yes I wasn't aware of some of the games that utilized it, and I just wanted some conversation/banter about it.

yes Indeed. I picked up a 75" Sony HDR....and I had already dumped my PS4 Slim and bought a sweet PS4 Pro off Whitefire (System + controller w/ 500GB SSD upgrade for $285 shipped) before the TV even showed up.

The only thing I've really played on it is Uncharted 4, and it does look damn nice - but I don't have much to compare it to.

uc4 does look good, as does most things, a decent tv is paramount to getting the most out of it but you have that, i def noticed some difference, horizon from what ive seen is still the showcase title, but we'll see if that changes as some of this years releases hit

Horizon looks really good! Battlefield 1 also looked noticeably better and Monster Hunter world's damn!

Some less graphicly demanding games like Diablo 3 also look night and day better!

it got its translation patch, NISA bombed it pretty hard on the first attempt, so badly they went back and re did it all. Falcom games deserve better, hopefully they take a little more care in the future.

they aren't what they used to be in many ways :/ Xseed is killing them these days on localizing and overall quality. losing Gust didn't help them either.

as a really really long time ff fan I really liked world of ff, not because of the new characters so much, lann is my least favorite ever, hes awful in every way, reinn tries but she can only make up for so much. it was great reliving the memories of my first time with those characters, that's what makes it great.

tales of zestiria or berseria? I need to get to zestiria, berseria is a prequel that takes place 1000 years prior, and many areas from berseria become the areas of zestiria, so it will be neat to see what happened to many things from ToB, zestiria was released first so i'll be playing them backwards but if you've played either I imagine the connections would be neat. I enjoyed berseria quite a bit, but I feel like it got lost at this time last year in the sea of rpgs... horizon, nier, persona, ff15 wasn't old at that time, etc. its quite good though, the ending phase and final dungeon drags on overlong like many jrpgs but it was a fun ride.

if you haven't played persona 5 that is the one though, its my #1 jrpg ever and God have I played a lot of them. Tokyo xanadu eX+ would by my next recommendation, its so so so good and without p5 and nier last year it could have been my game of the year. its persona meets ys more or less. its like playing an anime, you will get attached to characters. you will laugh and you will cry.

Diablo has some scaling resolutions, when stuff gets nuts it goes back to as low as 1080p but stutters much much less, but when it's chill it can render at up to 4K but it averages at around double its original resolution. Pretty impressive.

Yeah I finished DOOM VFR a couple days ago, I enjoyed it but it's so short (a common complaint I have with a lot of VR games). I stopped caring about hunting for trophies in games but there are only two left that I didn't get, so I might return to DOOM and get them after I finish RE7.

I think is Zestiria... The last tales game was Tales of Symphonia and I never finished it nor do I remember anything so basically I am totally new to the franchise.

WoFF I also love, it brings me back to my favorite FF (FF9). So maybe I will pick it up.

Never played a persona Game ever so I would not know where to start, same with Tokyo. I would be interested. I know I should play Kingdom Hearts though... I am waiting for a flash sale on that personally.

Yeah, I'm still not sure why they went with NISA. XSeed has done a great job with the other Ys games and their work on The Legend of Heroes games is amazing. I don't think Falcom will be making this mistake again.

World of Final Fantasy is great. I'm almost 30 hours in and it has been a fun ride. One thing I do find odd about it is that it is supposed to celebrate all the FF games, but there has been no love shown to 12 at all. 30 hours and there hasn't been a single cameo or anything. I'm pretty disappointed.

Persona and Tokyo xanadu for me are way better than kingdom hearts. The persona games aren't connected story or character wise..they share some common themes of things like that velvet room and Igor and school settings...but otherwise are not connected. You could play p5 and be fine and go play the others later. Tokyo Xanadu is self contained. It's just one game.. they have already promised there will be more in the series and I can't wait it was so awesome.
