Doesn't look like there's a discussion thread for PS4, unless I'm blind. Let's discuss PS4, then, in this thread.

Recent news: according to Kotaku, Gamestop is no longer taking preorders for the system. Hope you got your preorder in!

I didnt mean it like that. I meant if someone was interested in the physical version it was even cheaper (saw it in amazon that day by coincidence).

I find it kind of weird that they just held an event less than a month ago revealing the release date then delayed it so soon after. Must have found some new bugs.

Yeah, early 2020 is stacked so a delay is fine. Was hoping Ghost of Tsushima would be a mid-2020 game, though. Guessing it's a Fall game now.

Ugh, they always do this. In a sense I'm glad it's delayed though. February was brolic for gaming as it is. Wonder if Ghost of Tshunima is going to be a launch title for PS5 now or a cross platform with PS4/PS5?

ya early year is slammed. so its not so bad if it ends up being better. i also expected Ghost to be the mid year game, i hope this doesnt artificially delay that as im looking more forward to ghost than tlou. perhaps ghost is a ways out too and this helps balance the year and gives them more polish time on tlou.

I don't mind because I want it to be perfect.

I am betting if Ghost of Tsushima is fall 2020 they're just gonna make it a PS5 launch game. I'm hyped for it, would definitely make me want to buy it and play it with the new console.

Oddly enough, as much as I want TLoU2, I am also fine with it being delayed. I think I'm just relaxing more about release dates in my "old age." What I just hate is when there's no communication. Letting people know 2-3 months ahead of time is completely reasonable. Honestly, my guess is that Sony wanted a release date for their show and hassled ND for one. ND gave them one, being a bit unsure, and then things didn't go 100% perfect. Fine with me though.

I'd even like them to make it a PS5 launch game rather than bothering with a remastered version just a few months later. That way, I can play the definitive version.

If the next gen consoles are going to be more streamlined then remasters on PS5 should be a thing of the past if all PS4 games are going to be BC. The PS4 copy should just play better on the PS5 hardware and that's that. Enough with these ports nonsense and "Definitive" editions. It just costs publishers and consumers unnecessary amounts of money.

That's not really the same though. I mean, a lot of games look better on XB1X, but they don't look like remasters.

Also, losing remasters means losing revenue. That would be stupid unless they charged you more to graphically enhance the game which would make people flip out.

I guess I'm just tired of remasters then of a game released like 6 months before a new console comes out then released again on the new console for the same damn price.

Even if PS1-3 BWC is a myth, PS4 BWC isn't. This will be the first generation where they literally have absolutely no excuse to dump re-releases when the PS5 will already be upscaling last gen to 4K because this is simply an iterative release.

Yeah there should be no need for remasters of PS4 games. But its 100% up to the dev/pub if they want to do it. So I'm sure we will still see some.

I'm already contemplating on whether or not to postpone buying Last of Us 2 and even games like Cyberpunk because I just have that sensation those games will pop up on next gen console "Remasters" or "Definitive" editions within the first year of their release.

And that's what I mean, if a next gen console can just upscale the PS4 copy to say "true" 4K and run at a higher framerate then why keep pumping out remastered copies? Some 360 and even OG Xbox games that are BC on the XB1 are even upscaled at a higher resolution and framerate so there really should be no excuses to keep ravenously releasing ports/definitive editions/remasters anymore on PS4/Scarlett hardware, but like Archer said, it's up to the publishers and developers if they feel it makes financial sense to do so or not. The only console I can somewhat understand ports and definitive editions for is the Switch because the Wii U sales were so poor they need to recoup some of that with such heightened interests in the Switch.

I'm actually disappointed that a lot of 3DS games aren't getting "remasters" for the switch. There are a lot of popular 3DS games I'd like to play. But I hate playing on a 3DS.

I've been barking up a KOTOR remaster tree for almost a decade now, but it is highly unlikely as The Mouse and folks over at Disney do not consider anything before 2015's The Force Awaken's to be Canon anymore and pretty much Order 66'd all of the EU, call them "Legends" now, like folklore, and are happy to slap a cease and desist order on anyone trying to remake this iconic game. There was a company on PC making an unofficial remake of KOTOR codenamed Aeperion I believe and in 2018 The Mouse shut them down faster than flies boink as soon as it got a little traction.

ya, getting rid of the EU sucked so hard, so much good material there they could have just made movies and animated versions of.

the only things last i checked that were canon are the original movies, the prequel trilogy, the new movies, rogue one, star wars rebels, star wars the clone wars, and any material thats disney sanctioned released after the acquisition, so some of the newer comics and games will be included, fallen order for instance.

as remaster or remake of kotor could probably never happen, though it doesnt really affect anything disney is doing now its set so far before it wouldnt hurt their current timeline.

I keep reading all these wonderful things about Jedi Fallen Order that reminds me of the SoulsBorne games and I really don't want to get too excited until I play it first hand but I would be lying outright if I didn't say I have some hope that it's just as good as the first The Force Unleashed was.

And I have a feeling that we will see a KOTOR game land on next gen consoles once the Game of Thrones showrunners do their own spin on a KOTOR trilogy, but it just won't be the same. It probably won't have all the iconic characters as the original had. No Revan. No Bastila. No Malak. No Carth. No Jolee. No wookie Zalbar or his wisecracking Twi'lek partner Mission Vao. Sigh...#KOTOR14LIFE.

Ah, didn't know Death Stranding was coming to PC. Nice! Always seemed a bit odd that it was a PS4 only game since I believe Sony was only providing the tech (Death Stranding is being made with the Horizon engine) and not actually funding the game. We'll see. I'm not sure or anything, but Spawn Wave said that the publisher has a history of making their PC games exclusive to Epic's service. I'm not a PC game so don't know much about that.

This is good to hear. I put off playing it because I read something about it needing to be patched. Maybe I'll jump in sooner rather than later.

Currently playing Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. It is definitely scratching the strategy itch for me and I love how the story is presented. Reminds me a lot of The Banner Saga in many ways, but with Gwent gameplay and an old school cRPG-style world design. Really enjoying it so far.

early 2020 is far bigger than late 2019 at this point, but there could always be slips, seems like the last years we've seen a lot of top tier games releasing early year, though some of those may have hoped for holiday season and just had to do it. companies are getting better about spreading out rather than just trickling through some periods and throwing everything down for Christmas shopping. more of the gaming market being grown and buying their own games is probably a big part of that.

Sony is open to more studio acquisitions following the purchase of Insomniac Games:

https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2019/10/30/mo...

It'll be interesting to see who the target next. The acquisition of Bluepoint Games seems inevitable. I could also see the acquisition of KojiPro happening if Death Stranding does well. I'd definitely love to see them pick up a Japanese company to make some exclusive RPGs to rival the likes of Fire Emblem and Xenoblade from Nintendo, though. That'd be my number 1 want. Falcom, Level-5, and Team Ninja are the three studios that immediately come to mind. Another that makes sense is Remedy. They could really benefit from Sony's resources and their games have a lot of similarities to the games Sony already makes. I think they'd fit right in.

A new Ninja Gaiden or a new Fatal Frame with some financial muscle behind them would be awesome! Team Ninja is busy with Nioh 2 so no Ninja Gaiden is at least understandable. No idea why the Fatal Frame IP is just sitting around, though.

As for Capcom and Sega...I hope neither company ever decides to sell. They are both solid financially and publish their own games. They don't need Sony or anyone else. I'd hate to see all that IP get tied to one console.

Sega wanted MS to buy them forever, but it makes more sense for sony to do it. you also get Atlus so you can lock up all that material, and you get RGG and Yakuza, things that are already synonomous with the playstation platform anyway, and you get sega's huge historic library.

sega and capcom have both been on the bounceback lately though so neither one of them may be interested in selling anymore.

team ninja....didnt MS just buy them or maybe im thinking of something else. Ninja theory... thats what im thinking of. ya that would be a good pickup for sony.

falcom... if sony would let them retain autonomy to do what they do.. with the budget sony could give them.. i could see it. i wouldnt want them to have to change what makes them special though. but the influx of cash and talent could let them take it to the next level... double edged there.

level 5, kinda surprised they didnt already nab them up before. but there was a lull there in the rpg scene last gen, so i guess a lot of rpg centric studios not being scooped up makes sense.

From what I've read and heard, Death Stranding's story is strong, but the gameplay is weak.

I can tell you one thing that's almost certainly true about Death Stranding: It'll be a unique experience. Like him or loathe him, Kojima doesn't do "safe". Good or bad, it's gonna be one crazy ride!

im playing outer worlds still, but i may do death stranding after, it definitely seems like a concentration of weird ideas he's never been able to work into anything else and thats gotta be interesting at least. i really want to spend a lot of time on legend of heroes though too

Ya this game might be too crazy for me.

I love a crazy story but I don't like just scavenger hunt games or games with a billion inventory choices or ones that grind. This one might be all 3. I have DQ11S on my backlog so I may enter into that one first, but I am interested to see what some of you guys think.

After listening to YongYea's review on YT, he claims the story isn't as convoluted or complex as a traditional Kojima tale is. It's just Kojima's version of The Oregon Trail, traveling and delivering messages and cargo on foot to factions across the USA while undergoing hardships such as dealing with rocky terrain without losing any cargo, with Silent Hill stealth/horror elements and mild combat with heavy focus on cinematic storytelling. And Digital Foundry's analysis video has the game looking and performing quite amazing. I must say from what I've seen graphics wise, from the hair flow on character models alone, it may just be the best looking game to date, hands down. I'm intrigued. Still don't think it'll be my GOTY personally, but it does sound quite unique as is tradition with Kojima titles.

i cant see anything coming before 2020 unseating fire emblem for my GOTY, that may change one day when i get caught up on legend of heroes enough to play cold steel 3, but fire emblem for me this year was on its own level.
