This topic had many older posts which were moved here:

Doesn't look like there's a discussion thread for PS4, unless I'm blind. Let's discuss PS4, then, in this thread.

Recent news: according to Kotaku, Gamestop is no longer taking preorders for the system. Hope you got your preorder in!

Why would Sony half ass BC? I think people need to stop being so damn pessimistic and wait raspberry Sign's that point this way as far as I am concerned are how the VR units will be BC with the PS5... that tells me BC pretty important to Sony. Also this addon for the Dual Shock 4... there is something more there.

Sony has seen the great work that MS has done with BC, was it it 2017 that 1.5% of Xbox users played with BC roughly 503 million hours... in 2018 that was 1 billion hours.. so maybe 3%... probably safe to say that could be around 5-6% now ... still pretty low but it's still something that MS sees as a worthy feature. If I am Sony, I would not be resting on the the huge gap in console sales this gen... They have showed absolutely no signs of doing so. They did as far as I am concerned a completely out of character move and went to MS to improve PSNow, They see the services MS offers and will do the same.. it's how this works.

MS takes a look at PS+ and copies the free games a win for gamers....
MS see's PSnow and one ups Sony in providing a better service with GP
Sony adjusts there strat and allows PS4 games to be downloaded kinda mirroring GP.

Sony's BC will just be harder to do, when it comes to PS3 and older simply because Sony's architecture that changed greatly over the gens... with MS it's always been x86... that in itself makes it a great deal easier, I think Sony realized this with the PS4 after seeing what MS was doing.

MS and Sony are not stupid. They see what others are doing. If Sony fudges up BC, then I will gladly eat my words. But I highly doubt it happens. I mean sure if Phil Harrison was back then ANYTHING is possible.

I love the MS and Sony rivalry, it only benefits the gamer. I doubt there will be one solid leader in consoles sales between the two next gen, it's going to be more neck in neck, I am excited to see what that gives us.

Don't really want to get into a big Sony v MS debate because those debates are just hella lame. For me, games are the only thing Sony doesn't half ass. Let's be honest, they half ass everything else when they are in pole position, but PlayStation is such a huge global brand that it doesn't seem to matter. MS has made a lot of great moves and it hasn't even made a dent so Sony is just kinda coasting off the back of a sick library. I kinda miss that late PS3 era when Sony was trying to take back the crown and was just innovating left, right, and center so if we're being honest, it's probably better for us as gamers if MS is able to close the gap at least in the major hubs (US and UK) next gen so there's actual competition.

I know BC is a big deal for a lot of you guys so hopefully the BC on the PS5 is robust and makes people happy.

Right there with you, brother! I still have all my old consoles and I LOVE pulling out my PS3 to play through Mirror's Edge once or twice a year. It just feels good for some strange reason. But we're in the minority. Having everything in one place is just a lot more convenient and I totally get that.

Everything that you said it is something I want to believe and I got the feeling that they will do it.......maybe two or three year after the PS5 release. For my proof, you just need to go back and see how this generation went down. Sony had the upper hand in the beginning and was doing way more better than the Xbox 1. But when it come to their feature, they were too slow to implement it. Microsoft had a hard time to pick themselves up, but this was a great way for them to improve and actually listen to their loyal customer feedback while Sony is just doing their thing and believe that whatever they did was justified and all of their loyal customer would follow them but they didn't.

Example: Look at Microsoft. They remove the Kinect because nobody use it and buy their game. I believe they stop the support for it too. They did the backward compatibility first which was a awesome feature to their customer and good for them. Another one was cross-platform and team up with Nintendo. They team up with Nintendo for this and one of the best idea they come up with. Now that Cross-Play is happening, hopefully this will be a permanent feature for next gen. Some exclusive games and content went to Switch since it is selling like hot cake and I'm happy I can play it few Xbox exclusive game on Switch (CupHead. YAYYYYY!!!!) and another good idea since they want to grab some of Nintendo customer and make $$$ too. Finally, the Xbox Pass. Yes, they did started that first with the Xbox live and it was stupid since the only reason people needed that was for playing MP. All the other feature to use on Xbox was lock behind that paywall. But they improved themselves once again and yes, it was because of Sony. They need to add games to match their competition and remove that paywall to use the other feature for free but recently they upgraded and they really didn't need to. And it was called the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. One of the best feature on Microsoft (Not Xbox) since you can play Xbox games on the Xbox and PC. And I got the feeling they added this recently for the Next Gen so people to come back to the Xbox. The only thing they are lacking right now are first party games which I got the feeling they will improve in the next gen and I hope they do.

Now let looks at Sony. First, they started with that PS+ which was a good feature on the PS3 era as it was optional and was beating Xbox for their hilarious Xbox lives. They improved it more when more console was coming out (Vita and PS4) and added more game slot from thereon. (2 game for each platforms). But as time went on, the feature started to lose it color which I'll explain in after the next reason. The PS vita, one of the best handheld platform and was superior to the 3DS. But the problem was that Sony deem the Vita a failure too early and decide to cut support for it entirely. Maybe it was due to sales, I forgot but it was a stupid move from them. After that, it was Playstation Now. I think they are the first one to make a streaming services out of all the game company which I said kudo to them, but here was the problem.......IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE!!! Seriously, $100 for a whole year of service which btw, had it own share of problems. Nobody wanted to do anything with that and the library was lackluster. Another problem with that service was that you couldn't download the game on your console and you needed a good internet to make it work too. But they were slow when it come to improving it and follow a page from that Microsoft's book and made certain PS4 downloadable instead of streaming which I say kudo but slow as always. But now a day, they are having competition when it come to the it and as always, Sony is slow as Fk to improving their services. This year, they recently drop the price from $100 to $60 which I say f finally. Slow as always. xD They also made questionable decision like heavily censoring games which I was like Dafuq? Why? Well, whatever. Cross-play, Cross-buy and Cross-Platform. Another kudo to Sony was cross feature. Cross-play and Cross-buy which was a awesome idea from sony which I'll said for good for them. Buying the game once and it is your on any platform (PS3, PS4 and PSVita). But that feature has died down as most recent games are coming out on the PS4 now and PSvita just dying on it own, which lead to Cross-play. Since the games was coming out only on PS4, this feature was just there.......doing nothing (I think some games was able to play on the PC, could be wrong). Until Cross-Platform was announced by Microsoft and Nintendo. Everyone was hyped up because now they can play with their friend regardless of what console you had.........except for Sony. Everyone was waiting for Sony to answer to this and Sony was not doing anything........at all. They made some stupid excuse like they don't want to due to protecting their loyal consumer from harm or whatever. Everyone in the fanbase got pissed......they started doging at them, stopped playing the PS4 version of the game and decide to move on to the other platform to make a point which Sony had to accept it to save face. It was thanks to the consumer that Sony had to backtrack their statement and turn on the feature which btw, didn't do it immediately since they needed to "stability" or whatever B*S* excuse, but Fortnite prove them wrong since they had to do is put one button and BANG! everyone can play together. Sony as always is slow AS F***! Now back to PS+, since PSvita is dead and Sony isn't supporting PS3 that much anymore, they decide to downgrade their service.......again DAFUQ?! Now they are releasing 2 games per month for the PS4 and there are times where they're going to give for subscriber certain games that made changes in the last mins. They aren't doing that well since they got no idea what they want to do with their service anymore. Another reason is Vue, a cable service which Sony thought it was going to last long.......it going to close down next month.

Overall, in opinion I got the feeling that Xbox is going to do a lot better in the next Gen than Sony will and that is what scaring me since I think I heard that Sony will make the PS5 the last console they will ever make ( I could be wrong and I might have heard that wrong). In my opinions, I think Sony will do everything they can do improve everything.......in a couple of years after everyone else already done it first. Hence why I will get the PS5 in couple of years after it was release. Sorry for the long rant. I think it took me like a hour to write all of these down. xD

Playing PS1 on PS2 has very few issues.

@Heavyd814life Yeah I definitely understand the appeal as well. It even sounds nice to me but I never end up using it. Only real exception I can think of is I played a lot of GBA via DS/DSL.

For my fellow witchers.. all eps of netflix show watched. 4/10. I've seen worse. There are moments of awesome mixed in, and without the casting trip ups and changing too much I might have gone 5/10 and just not good or bad..it just is, but had to go below average. They took more liberties than they seemed to let on and there are too many changes for me and the casting is atrocious but you can do worse. They put some characters in too early to get them in and put some characters into events they shouldnt be in. I cant forgive it...someone more casually into the material may be able to. Cavill, the guy who plays jaskier(dandelion) and tissaia carry it. Yen and triss are sadly very bad.

I dont like it overall. I went in expecting it to be the worst thing I've ever seen so I could be surprised when it wasnt and that was then right choice.

Geralt isnt at the fall of cintra. Triss isnt there that early in the story. Yennefer hears the wish when Geralt makes it and some other changes.

That's always interesting to me. We sort of accept that things won't follow the sources materials (and to be fair, sometimes they can't or are better off not in certain instances), but should we be fine with it?

One of the most egregious cases of this is with religion/mythology. The arrogance of these writers to think they can improve a story that's thousands of years old and has been beloved for millennia. Amazing.

I'm afraid to even watch it. I read all the books years ago when the first game came out. And then read the new one that came out around the time the second game was out. So I have a feeling between my love of the books and the games, the show will just make me angry. Which isn't worth it, so I'll just never watch it.

I enjoyed Andromeda a lot, actually. Super flawed, but I had very low expectations going in after all the horror stories so I wasn't as disappointed by the flaws as most people were. It's a B-tier Mass Effect game, but I was okay with that. Really wish they had followed through with the planned DLC, though because so much was left unanswered. It makes me really sad that Andromeda really could be the last Mass Effect game we ever get. It's tough to wrap my head around that.

I've spent about 12 hours playing Divinity Original Sin 2 today. I don't know guys, I think this might be my favorite western RPG of the gen ahead of The Witcher 3. Crazy, I know and it's probably a bit of decency bias, but this game finds new ways to surprise me every few minutes. I'm honestly blown away by the attention to detail, the quality of the writing, the world building, the freedom, the challenge...the list goes on. I'm about 70 hours in and I never want it to end!

Nah. I feel that. I played that game for over 200 hours, through the full thing twice back to back. That game is amazing. Its very rare for a game to be that polished and every aspect to be that good in one package. There is also a lot of "hidden" content that you most likely wont notice or find in your first playthrough (or can't because of choices, party, etc). Massive replay value. Also doing a solo run was crazy fun.

Yeah, its still a Mass Effect game regardless.
Dragon Age 2 was highly critiziced too. I actually liked that game quite a bit. Now that I think about it, I dont believe I ever finished/beat any of the DA games, or I just dont remember the endings.

Can anyone here tell me if Star Wars Battlefront 2's online still active? I know that game sucked at release but supposedly its good now and I liked the first one quite a bit.

Its $12 (seen it cheaper before) at the PSN sale right now but Im afraid to buy it and end up with very long queue times due to a dying player count or even worse, a completely dead online mp.

I can't even imagine how challenging a solo run must be. Does the Lone Wolf talent really help that much? What build did you go with? You've got me really curious now lol. I might try to run through it solo if I ever play it again.

Yeah man, I LOVED Dragon Age 2! It's legitimately one of my favorite RPGs ever, but I don't know many people who enjoyed it as much as I did. I had such a fun time with it. Inquisition is another game I really loved and people were a little down on that one as well. I just really love the series, in general. Really hope Bioware is able to get its act together and make DA4 great.

Yep, another over-hyped RPG that expects you to play for hours upon hours paying attention to every detail in order to get anything satisfying out of it.

its nothing like fallout or elder scrolls, but its a long and involved experience that isnt like anything else, so before spending the dough def look it up.

the books are excellent as well, maybe give those a look also and see if the subject matter interests you.

Its pretty hard for a while. But once you level up and buy some of the high level spells its becomes, interesting, and extremely fun. A lone wolf necromancer archer breaks the game in an amazing way. You use the enemies blood to do powerful long range attacks that just destroy everyone in a single hit. I had a bunch of late game battles where I cleared every enemy with a single attack, after 3-5 turns though. You can also still get the full bonus of lone wolf with just one companion. Early on I had to get a companion for a boss fight because I just couldn't figure out how to solo it at a low level.

Yakuza 7 appears to be continuing the trend of amazing. Famitsu has reviewed it... 9/9/10/10 for a stellar 38/40. sweet.

also surprisingly dragonball z kakarot has reviewed really well... 9/8/9/8 for a very nice 34/40... better than i expected. i didnt care much for the xenoverse games but if they've made a good dbz game thats cool i guess.

Awesome news for Yakuza! That studio can do no wrong. Glad to see they keep the trend going.

DBZ Kakarot I was on the fence about but will likely wait for a deep sale in the summertime as I have way too many RPG's in my backlog right now to take on another, (like Persona 5 which I'm adoring), but I am glad that DBZ finally got a true RPG title that many fans have been asking for.

I'm not preordering Kakerot. I hated the DBZ xenoverse games but I am interested. I mostly am tired of the same old origin story though, so I wonder is it supposed to be new/non canon content or the same old. Either way I want to get it later, but am only mildly interested ..

Famitsu's reviews have become a bit of a joke in recent years, but it's still nice to see that Y7 reviewed well. Hopefully we get a release date for the west soon.

It looks like kakarot is going to somewhat follow the dbz story but I like the presentation better than the xenoverse it looks better. I am also of the thought that for me it's a later in the year on sale title still though.

What the frick is going on with the difficulty level on the Special Operations section of Modern Warfare? I can't get anywhere on any of the missions - endless spawn waves and I keep getting killed like 20 minutes in, which you would think mean I was pretty far in the mission, but no flipping way - I can't get anywhere in these, even with three other co-op players. It's crazy broken or something.

I can't believe they would leave that mode the way it is. It isn't just unforgiving, it's unplayable. Holy crap.

Lol. Nothing to show but somehow have one of the dopest ends to a generation ever.

E3 is dead. It's basically a crappy fan/influencer festival now and they are going to open up the doors to 10,000 more members of the public in 2020. Sony pulled out just in time.

I don't care if they're skipping E3. If anything it shows that they are working hard to present something amazing, or maybe doing their own show later when they're ready and on their terms. I've never been disappointed in a Playstation console, so I am ok with this.

I think I'm just messed up being primary PC; all the multiplat games I'm good playing on PC, and a good chunk of the PS4 exclusives I had interest in wandered over to PC pretty quickly. Persona 5 and Spider-Man were really good, I just wasn't very impressed with the system's performance overall, and didn't care for the other big exclusives everyone else seemed to enjoy a lot. I could see how that might come off as crazy.

If I didn't have a PC or an Xbox One X and wasn't fudging my Switch every night I'm sure I'd be very satisfied with PS4. I REALLY wish I could have loved my PS4s as much as I loved my Switches. I don't enjoy being weird. Ideally PS4/Switch is the best of both worlds, but PC fudges with my perspectives. A lot.
