I haven't touched my 3DS or 2DS in forever so I have no idea.

30-Nov(#3)No, but you can play it on your 3DS since it's backwards compatible. It's in the Wii U shop digitally.

Anyone wanna take over this duty of corralling people to vote and determine the GotM?

Yeah I might buy a physical cart then.
I still haven't owned a Wii U yet.

That's great but what are we doing this month? It's not that hard, we already have 3 great nominations anybody wanna add a 4th?
So far we have:
1. Fire Emblem 1 (Famicom, Switch)
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas:
Oogie's Revenge (Xbox, PS2)
3. The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
(Nintendo DS, Wii U)
I can do it this month, we can just vote in posts here on the 5th and 6th
and I'll give people time to nominate 1 game each (up to 7 total) and it'll be on starting next Monday I guess.

happy to see this hoping its going to lead to the other games never before released here to get done as well, but they really all already have great translation patches. If these are taking any resources away from IS to make FE17 id assume they focus on that.
BleedingViolet

5-Dec(#9)Lets vote for game of the month!
Y'all know the drill, there's only 3
games this month so rank each
game 1-10. The game with the most points by tomorrow night is the game of the month for December
1. Fire Emblem
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Oogies Revenge
3. The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks
BloodPuppetX

5-Dec(#11)10 on FE and 9 on Spirit Tracks...I played the first two maps in FE already. It's definitely a little rough by today's standards, but still playable.
BleedingViolet

6-Dec(#12)Spirit Tracks - 10
Nightmare before Christmas - 9
BleedingViolet

6-Dec(#13)So Far we have
1. Fire Emblem - 20
2. Nightmare Before Christmas - 9
3. TLOZ Spirit Tracks - 19
Only 3 of us have voted though
I'll give it till midnight here on the West Coast. So about 7 more hours to vote y'all. I'm hoping for a tie so I can play Zelda and everyone else can play FE who can access it. Or Zelda.
BloodPuppetX

6-Dec(#14)Give it until noon tomorrow. I think @Scott typically posts on weekdays.
BleedingViolet

6-Dec(#15)Okay, it's not like we're starting on
the 1st anyways. Hopefully more people will vote, but I have been looking at how I might be able to play any of the games. One game will have to be played on the DL.
BloodPuppetX

6-Dec(#16)I'm just tagging Scott because he nominated ST. I'm sure he would put 10 on that and zero on the other two. So if nobody else votes, we can make that GotM.

I wouldn't mind both games winning.
It's always nice to have a choice but
I will find a way ..... at least for this month. All three games are good I'm sure. I haven't finished any of them.

BleedingViolet

7-Dec(#21)1. Fire Emblem - 20
2. The Nightmare Before
Christmas - 9
3. The Legend Zelda
Spirit Tracks - 29
Zelda Spirit Tracks is the
December game of the Month

13-Dec(#26)Looks like my FE special edition came in, and I have to say it's gorgeous! The artbook (the real reason I wanted it) is nice and meaty, and the other pack-ins really harkened back to the NES days and reminded me of them, down to little detail in the manual. And the mock cart... I expected a standard grey plastic shell, but this is a nice heavy plastic display cart- something I actually would show! Topping off the whole package was the mini NP insert, with the inside reminding me of the issues of the 90s... man, it makes me feel so old and nostalgic...

About the only game system I own that's not HDMI is the PS2. Like I have FPGa systems for Genesis etc. . . So my worst looking games are PS2. Is retrotink pro + PS2 component a huge improvement?

For capturing/streaming, component is going to be a pretty big improvement over composite, no matter which device you get. On an old style TV, the difference will probably be less dramatic, unless the set is pretty high-end.

I say we nominate a new game for next month. Nine days left in the month, which is plenty of time to beat ST for the people who actually plan to do it. I played up to where you go into the Spirit Tower for the first time. I don't know if I'll get back to it by the end of the month or not. I beat it within a week the first time I played it.

Yes, please, much appreciated.
I agree with @BloodPuppetX to start a new game.
Sorry I can't be more active in the recent months, but I will try in 2021.
BleedingViolet

22-Dec(#39)It looks like imma be able to start playing tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that.
This has been such a fudgeed up year y'all, I am hoping for so much better for everyone next year. Not just the people I care about either but for everyone everywhere. Because Karate Kid or not "what goes around comes around.".

I'm only on the Second tower. But whatever people decide. I'm going to power through it at work this 4 day weekend. but even doing that I don't think I'll beat it.

I literally wasn't aware it was available on PS4 now, that's pretty cool actually since it's such a good game! 😃

BleedingViolet

27-Dec(#63)Fine I nominate this game then.
Beauty and the Beast: Belles Quest
- Genesis
BleedingViolet

* 28-Dec(#68)Beauty and the Beast - 5
Ghouls and Ghosts - 4
Jackal - 3
DKC3 - 2
BleedingViolet

31-Dec(#74)Yeah well I don't have kids but I have a bunny and she has chewed many of many charging cables in half. So I may need more time to finish
Spirit Tracks BUT IMMA DO IT.
She's already gone through 2 DS charging cables and I'm sure I have more but looking through everything is a total slog.
Also Happy New Year RTT because
It's gotta be better this coming year!
I am looking forward to new systems this year and retro games. I did beat some games most out of order or not gotm but it's been a weird year and I just kinda stopped caring as much I maybe should have.
Renaissance2K

* 1-Jan(#75)Happy New Year, everyone. While this year was a challenge in nearly every aspect, it was a good year personally for retro gaming. I picked up a number of fun new toys, improved my gaming and capture setup, and played through a number of my all-time favorites that I hadn't played in decades. It was fun ride and an effective way to distract myself from the rest of the world as it collapsed into a pile of overcooked couscous.
On that note, here's the final tally for the January 2021 Game of the Month:
1. Jackal - 15 points2. Ghouls 'n Ghosts - 12 points
3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - 11 points
4. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble - 10 points
5. Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Chainsaw Massacre - 5 points
Being based on an arcade original, Jackal is a fairly short game. Even before you consider the number of the arcade version was ported via emulation, Jackal has been released on a number of platforms, despite being best known for its NES port. Should you decide to explore some of these less-travelled ports, you shall be
handsomely rewarded.
Play through Jackal on one platform before February 1 to earn the Jackal Squad badge. If you decide to play through a second time on a different platform, you'll also earn the Medium Tank badge. For each platform you play through beyond the second (third, fourth, etc.), you'll earn a Heavy Tank badge.Screenshots/Photos aren't required for verification, but I think they're fun, so feel free to post them.
