I get my system only never used Rose Metallic DS Lite tomorrow can't wait. I've been trying to get a virgin system for a while now due to my white ones ghosting. I have several great RPGs I still want to play on DS.
> System only and never used seem to contradict each other. Guess you just have to
> take the seller's word for it.
pictures looked good. Young girl bought it, never bought a game, and went off to college. The pics of like the back of the system, there are no scuffs at all even on the rubber feet. That's one way I tell. And the shoulder buttons are not miscolored, another way to tell.
Sounds good then. Almost all DS systems I've ran into have had some kind of issue. Usually screen tint at a minimum. I LOVE the game library. I just wish the hardware was better and I've bought multiple DS systems brand new from the store. :(
> Interested to know what you think of it. School crap has me on the fence.
I just started. I went with the Black Eagles myself. I'm actually looking forward to the school stuff. It should be a nice change of pace from the usual "fight, cutscene, fight" of the previous FE games.
all the reviews are saying the school stuff is mostly good, and it has actual effects on the characters, so thats cool, and its only a third or quarter of the game. one review said 60 hours, others have said less if you hurry and more if you bobble about, but the 60 guy said he did everything he could find to do. im looking forward to the school part, if its done well like persona its just gonna be a bonus... if its less so like blue reflection or caligula effect then maybe not, but from everything ive seen it looks good.
gamexplain and easy allies both have pretty good reviews up that just make me want to get home that much faster.
I don't like the look of it but I'm a curmudgeon with this series and was averse to some of the changes in Awakening initially. I could avoid my issues there with self imposed challenges and leaving perma death on.

You can enable perma death in all FE games, including Three Houses. Regarding the school stuff, you can actually just speed through it if you want. You can skip the classes by letting the game do it automatically. (Meaning you can't pick which students you teach, but the option is there for people who want to skip that stuff.) And you can just fast-travel during the free time sections to make those go by fast.
In any event, I'm really enjoying the game so far. I like the new battalion command.
So far digging FE:TH and I've only played a half an hour. The battle system looks so sharp in portable mode.
What sex/name did you chose and which house? I have not gotten to that part yet but I am playing a Female because I don't like the way male MC looks. Named her Rydia after my favorite green haired hero.
Black eagles for life. Blue lions have some good characters I'm gonna try and get too. I want ash mercedes and perhaps Ingrid to defect to be on the BE with me.
I'll be sending out some requests from a "tonywolf" as I'm gonna be playing FE on a game share account, and apparently there is an online feature where items can be sent into other players world or something.
Anyone playing FE in Japanese? I think I'm gonna try it out, I've come to prefer it for most things.
So I started over (only an hour). Female Byleth's eyes just bug me so much. Too big and weird looking. Now playing male with default name.
In other news, my $25 rose pink metallic DS Lite has a PERFECT screen. NO ghosting. Super happy about that. Can now pick one of my unplayed RPGs and give it a go! Tested Chrono Trigger because I easily notice that on my white DS Lite. It's so nice to see those sharp pixels even while moving around the screen!
Since most people went with the Black Eagles route, I'd suggest making an extra save file at some point during the Pegasus Moon month. That's when you have to make a choice about Edelgard. I will likely do a NG+ route with at least one of the other houses, but definitely don't want to replay the whole game four times. That's why I'm going to make an extra save file before the coronation. At least with the other houses, the characters and dialogue will be different on a second (and possibly third) run.
i'll probably play golden lions after black eagles. I like the students of both houses, they all seem fun in their own way. So 2 play throughs for me. I really considered Golden Eagles as my only play through.

the blue lions, or the golden deer? im considering blue lions for a second play if i do a new game+, but may do golden deer as apparently its much different from the black eagles and blue lions which kind of set on a collision course with the other but the golden deer seems to explore some different things from what i heard. however its characters are the least interesting to me in large part. blue lions though would give me the opposite side of the black eagles/edelgard route though, which could be interesting.

yes def make a save file for the black eagles run so you dont have to repeat a big chunk, as there is a big choice, i havent gotten there but def plan to make a save to see both sides of that. i def will not able to play the whole thing four times, but would like to see both sides of edelgards and maybe one other and then lots of youtubing for the rest.
whos your favorites so far? i def love edelgard, going for S rank there for sure on this run. Petra is an absolute murder machine, just got her to swordmaster, just put her out there and she mows them down. prob my top 2 so far.
anyone recruited anyone from a different house yet into your group? i was able to grab Shamir last night (the dark haired younger professer who also used to be a merc). shes a sniper and though she was lower level than my own characters she is pretty good now that shes catching up. shes the first ive had any luck recruiting.
im trying to nab several of the blue lions characters for my group, i want mercedes, annette, (magic is sick in this game) felix and ingrid but its probably going to be tough to raise all the skills i need to recruit such different characters, as your points for explore are precious and only a portion can be used on training byleth without sacrificing other things, i guess can always raise some stats in the optional battles?
apparently all the dlc wont be out til like april, and that is when the extra story content and more hits, everything til then will be outfits and extra battle maps apparently, so maybe a new game + when all that hits and is out, but wow what bad timing with FF7 and Cyberpunk at that time unless those delay.
so far this game rocks though, trying to think what else has been out this year and if this could be sliding into a GOTY level candidate for me.
ive never really been that interested in Amiibo.. but the amiibo gazebo and how awesome this is makes me want some FE ones lol, or just get that thing that can be any amiibo lol. Has anyone tried some FE ones and what did you get? i tried the Mario Cereal box (the only one i have lol) and it makes some items spawn at the gazebo each time you explore, nothing of consequence..tea leaves, some healing items, seeds etc. i suspect fire emblem ones probably grant some better stuff and maybe specific stuff.
Hes a little goofy, but Mangs on youtube is a pretty big FE guy and has some short vids on each character talking about their strengths and stuff and what classes to maybe plan for their futures based on their affinities, limited time to train them defintely seems to be important to think about where you want them to end up.
black whatevers. I do plan to play Golden Deer afterward. I hear there is some sort of decision to make via edelgard but I don't want to know what that is. I hear you can get flayn if you chose one way. So perhaps I will chose to side with Edelgard and then in my Golden Deer play through I will be able to get Flayn.
ya we def wont spoil you on that, but if you are getting fairly deep into the school portion of the game it will be becoming apparent about what that choice entails. ya i was suspecting flayn might be recruitable, thats pretty cool. i havent gotten to the point of making the choice either but its looking like maybe not too far based on whats happening.
> I heard Setsuna was really bad so I held off on it. The choice was between it and
> Octopath at the time so I feel I really made the right choice since I loved Octopath.
octopath is on a whole different level than setsuna. if setsuna had been a 20 dollar game it would have been a different story. they were just like hey this is similar to chrono trigger oooooohhhhh!!! did you like chrono trigger? we have something for youuuu!!! its just so mediocre and boring. octopath was beautiful with sick battles and stuff.
i will have to look at what moon im on, i THINK, im around 4 or so months in.. my professor level is up to like C or C+, ive got 6 points to spend in exploration now, im trying to think about how many end of month story missions ive been through, but i havent been able to recruit any rival house people yet, i was able to get shamir last night, but shes an instructor as well.. without spoiling too much im in the month right after the story mission where Gilbert goes with you to recover a stolen artifact, whichever moon that is. my own characters are mostly up to B rank in their primary skills and are just mowing down the other house members in those training grounds tournaments.
even though they cant gain experience, taking rival house people you want to recruit with you on missions does seem to allow their support level to start growing, ive already gained a point of support with ingrid and she has with a couple of my house members too.
some other stuff ive noticed...
choir practice seems largely like a waste, it doesnt raise motivation, and doesnt raise prof level as much as meals, and meals raise two characters motivation.
inviting to tea seems to be a way to raise charm/charisma, whatever CHA is, but you have to get a perfect, so it may be worth looking up the answers to not waste an exploration point. this may be possible on the birthdays, but ive yet to get a perfect on any of the birthday ones, sometimes the choices that seem right arent. gifts and lost items may be a better way overall to raise motivation and support levels though, because tea time costs a point that could be used on other stuff.
sometimes your free day really wont have much going on or no events, if you dont need to raise motivations with meal sharing or whatever those seem like good days for battles if there is no instruction the next day and you can always raise motivation the following sunday before monday classes.
magic is sick, ive made hubert a dark mage and its awesome. dorothea is a solid mage too.
I think Felix is the only one I've recruited from one of the other houses. I haven't even been trying to recruit them, lol. Among the other instructors, I have Shamir (awesome as a sniper), Manuela and the old guy. ( Forgot his name, the one with a crest in his room.).. And I read on GameFAQs that Catherine can only be recruited during the Blue Lions route, apparently.
A character will just offer to join your group when you speak to them, if they are ready to join, btw. You only select the Recruit option during conversations to see which stats you're supposed to raise.
felix is probably a pretty easy one to get since he wants swords and speed, which for byleth should come pretty natural, so i keep thinking he will be among the first to get. id love to add him to my front line along with petra and edelgard and byleth, hes kind of a male petra from what i see and myrmidons and swordmasters are just sick in this game so far.
ya i figured the other instructors would be easier to get somehow, and now that you say that, shamir did kind of mention it in conversation and then i just selected ya that would be great or whatever. i havent heard that about Catherine, but makes sense.
I'm focusing on my on class because every one is just so enjoyable to get to know. I know I'll play Golden Deer for my 2nd play through so I pretty much skip bonding with them and instead focus on a few of the church people or people from Blue House.
any non fire emblem amiibo spawns items around the gazebo when you do an explore day, but the game says fire emblem amiibos can give special items. thinking they probably arent items worth spending 20 bones on these little chips though, maybe once the info is out about what they are, maybe it already is, i havent looked very hard.
there is a device out there that can mimic any amiibo, you just hook it to your pc and put the thing in it and tell it which amiibo you want it to be and it puts that code on it and then you scan it onto your console, last i knew those were around 50-60, if gonna buy these for 20 may as well buy that and have every amiibo.
i am seeing some info out there that says the professors and members of anything other than the houses like the knights etc may be dependant on byleth's level and stats, rather than skills like the other house members, maybe thats why shamir just all of a sudden said hey why not work together (giggity).
also info stating which makes i suppose that the higher your social link... i mean support level the less rating in those skills you need, for instance if a rival house member wants you to have bow skills the higher the support the lower they will accept, so it may not be a waste of time to spend free time with people you want to recruit.
UGH. i just really dont have the time to be at work right now, my back hurts and i just want to get home to play. i can tell this game is really special since its doing that persona effect where i think it about a lot even away from it and just try to figure out how i can maximize the effort to get back to it.
omg so awful. tell them you are really sick and dont want to infect anyone. we will be getting dinner out on the way home after i pick up the kids so there wont be time spent cooking and cleaning up to maximize what little three houses time i can try to get.
Ok, so I'm at the part where Edelgard leaves the monastery. The game saves automatically after you fight her and then you're given the choice to kill or protect her. As long as you speak to her some time during the Pegasus Moon month and attend her coronation, then you can just make an extra save after the battle. I've already started on both of these paths, and the one where you leave with her definitely seems to be the more interesting option. Oh, and you can't actually kill her, btw. She'll just escape (along with Hubert) if you pick that option.
> How often do you guys battle instead of explore? I just spent 2 hours repeating battles
> and lvling up all my characters.
You are playing Normal right? I explore maybe twice a month. You only need to once though since nothing new happens after you talk to everyone except like cooking, praying, etc. . I battle once a month. And on normal you can just grind as many battles as you want without moving the time forward. I also like to Grind like you do. Every Fire Emblem fantatic tells me this is wrong but I DO NOT CARE. I love Grinding.
i usually battle once per month, maybe twice depending on if there are quest battles, and i usually do the ones that dont take a point a few times. im probabaly a little over leveled but watching my team mow down the opposition is pretty awesome. Petra just wrecked the sword tournament without evern trying. a sunday before a monday with no instruction time is a good time for battles because you dont have to worry about getting motivation up to teach. exploring is important i find even on days after youve talked to everyone if you are trying to recruit, raise motivations or most importantly, your professor level, early to mid pre time skip getting that prof level up seems pretty important.
as far as recruiting, i have found info that says if you can get someone to B they will join you automatically, but maybe not instantly. gamefaqs has some topics about just spamming the crap out of gifts, lost items and meals, once you unlock the other shops you can buy gifts so go nuts. and also having that character be your mission assist for the month and just set as byleth's adjutant so they are always together. i hope to be able to try this tonight, as ive got a couple of the characters i want to C.
the online guy by the training ground... put good items out for people to buy! intermediate seals are great, its not just a single person who can buy it, but everyone who comes across your traveler, so you can get some big money back if you leave them out for a while. hiring these characters as adjutants appears to possibly only last the current week or maybe even 1 battle, i had one and then noticed they were gone soon after, so that may not be too worth the money. you also dont lose whoever you set out to be your online traveler from your party, its just a like version of them, im sure everyone knows that, but just saying there is no reason not to put a good character out there with high stats and expensive items.
@BloodPuppetX dang youre already that far... ugh i need to be playing instead of being at work!! i wish id known this was going to be this good so i could have planned to save a couple vacation days to just sit and binge all day. I cant bring my switch to work so that doesnt help lol.
> Yea normal casual. Grinding is fun plus it helps me gain insight into different strats.
Yeah it's great because you can focus "activities" on other students you want to recruit. If you do like 5 battles in a row standing next to your school students, you automatically get tons of support and unlock new convos with them.
I also battle once a month. It sounds like we all use similar strategies. I figure I pile on about 2-3 battles in a row to make sure no one is too weak to be taken out easily. Then explore maybe twice a month (you can plant and get more flowers each week which again helps with recruiting) and then lecture once and rest once.
i have found seminars to be what i do the least so far, ive done a few, but i usually find i can accomplish more with a battle or explore, occassionaly it will hit a fairly empty sunday and enough characters are motivated enough to show up to a seminar that its worth it.
ya its all up to you, you can break it by just repeating the battles that dont cost activity points and run over the enemy, petra and byleth critical like every other turn, so its just death rain. this is on normal, im sure its rougher on hard. black eagles are strong in magic and that just chews through armored foes, its easy if you want it to be. easier than other FE games
> i have found seminars to be what i do the least so far, ive done a few, but i usually

Seminars are useful for when you're trying to make a character a certain class and need a particular skill ranked up. But otherwise, I mostly do battle or explore. I did rest once to repair Byleth's special sword, since I didn't have the materials needed. And yeah, Tony, I played a ton over the weekend. It was about 25 hours to get to that point mentioned in the spoiler.
This is definitely going to be my favorite Switch exclusive game. In fact, it's already topped Super Mario Odyssey and Octopath Traveler in that regard.
And I already want to play a 2nd time. I usually like to have one file and just recruit all the best people. But so much happens with just your own classmates that I'd rather just focus on them, then play another class later.
its a good problem to have. at least its good games. i love this one, and im glad to see it reviewing well and seems to be doing pretty well commercially from what ive seen, but they actually put a decent marketing campaign behind it too. hopefully this will lead to more fire emblem overall.
i didnt get to play last night :( too busy and by the time i could it was after 10 my time and i knew better than to turn it on, usually pretty tough to get a lot of time during the week. i NEEEED to get back to this game
growth rate info is starting to come out. Lystithia from golden deer is someone that the other two houres will definitely want to recruit, even black eagles who are already strong in magic, her growth rates are amazing and she will double a lot as her speed growth is very high, shes a glass cannon though, but she also earns double EXP from battle through her personal skill and has TWO crests. OP for sure.
Petra i already knew was insane as she is my #1 enemy killer, she doubles and crits almost every turn during some battles, her personal skill ups crit by 20 if an enemy is half hp or lower, so she can wipe out strong enemies in one go when they have been chipped down. her str and spd growth are very good. felix as well has high growth. i am working on recruting felix so my front line can have petra and felix wailing away at enemies foolish enough to charge me.
Mercedes is another i was already working on, but def going to double down on her as well, hers is also stellar and her personal skill allows her to heal herself as well when she heals an ally, so no wasted turns on the healer using items. she seems to be the best healer in the game as well from what ive seen.
Leonie from golden deer is also high growth and gets pretty good pretty fast, probably a real nice cavalier or pegasus knight too.
these have been revealed as five of the characters with the best growth rates, i was already working felix and mercedes pretty hard but will double down on lysitihia and leonie now too, the golden deer characters werent as interesting to me so i hadnt been messing with them much but they are a strong house.
I recruited Lysethia during the second half of the game. She's the only one who gave me that option after I defeated her in battle. She can't take any damage like you said, but can definitely dish it out.
> Maybe spoiler some of that stuff? I like playing blind/organically.
I've never been able to rely on supposed growth rates. PoR has blown all of them out of the water for me. At the same level, I had Rolf with better defense than Gatrie- on both my first 2 playthroughs. Conversely, RD gave me the other side, with my Michaea ending up as deadweight- average damage, but low speed, def, and res meant if anything touched her, she died. A bit of a problem when her death is game over... I so wanted to write her off all game...

I completely ignore that stuff until after a couple playthroughs to see if it matches my own notes. Agree with you that sometimes it can feel off, maybe just weird RNG but idk. It's not too difficult to figure out who the good characters are and in this post Awakening world there is exactly zero punishment for leveling a bad character other than time lost. Sometimes I will do a run of weak/underappreciated characters.
I'm not sure if there are any truly weak characters in Three Houses, since you can build them all up pretty much any way you want to. I thought Caspar was weak AF at first, but then I focused on making him a grappler and he became very strong. And then there is Petra, whom Tony has had success with but has been borderline useless for me. It just depends on what you do with them, I guess lol.

what are you doing with her? she is probably my best unit right now, on par with byleth and better than edelgard at the moment at least.
ya caspar seemed super weak, i had seen that he would be a good grappler so i started him on gauntlets but he seemed better with axe and hes starting to do ok but hes not petra or edelgard, but hes beating enemies faster than ferdinand as a cavalier is right now, Ferd is the one whos surprised me not being stronger.
there are stronger characters, but im not sure anyone just totally sucks and is useless. they are all pretty good at something, even if not better than someone else at the same thing. Annette is probably a better overall mage than Dorothea but Dorothea isnt worthless, and Mercedes is a far superioer healer to Linhart but Lin isnt worthless at healing.
petra for me seemed to ask if she could start working on flying also to eventually be a pegasus knight, but shes so strong as a swordmaster i think im gonna continue to focus her along that route, info ive seen seems to indicate she and felix are the best swordmasters in the roster.
