ive finished cindered shadows and have now started a new play of the main game with the new features and characters that it unlocks by playing it. the new characters fit into the game quite well,
ferdinand and constance grew up together, balthus and hilda's older brother are best friends, yuri is that friend of bernadettas from her story in her supports about the boy who disapeared, yuri knows dorothea from the opera, etc
they have some supports with a few of the other characters from the game which fill in how they fit and expand upon their stories, so far they are all pretty good. you can travel to and from the new area and once per month cycle there are things you can get from the new area like weapons and items, and there is a mechanic in the new area that allows you can use renown to pair up whatever characters you want to get paired endings without having to ensure they have the highest support scores, and a mechanic where you can trade items for renown and trade renown for weapons and items.
the writing in the dlc is not on par with the main game sadly, its exrtemely predictible except for like one thing, and they obviously didnt have the time they had with the main campaign. i am enjoying the new characters and paralogues and stuff more in the main game than in the side story, but the side story is really short, like 5-7 hours dependng on how fast you can go, and its enjoyable enough for one go, its not like the main game where multiple plays are encouraged and is conducive to different challenge runs. money and resource are limited in the side story but i never found myself lacking and actually ended up i should have went more all out because i ended up still having over 10k gold at the end.
the new classes are pretty fun, im not high enough level yet to get constance and lysithea to dark flyer yet but the two of them flying around the map nuking everything is going to be glorious. im doing a harem run this round, male byleth and female units only, mostly just for fun, i am doing some adjutant usage with yuri and balthus for the supports since they're new content, and i'll probably try Jertitza a little when i get post timeskip since i havent played since he and anna came out.
Ok RPGers I need your Turbo Grafx/PC Engine and PC Engine CD RPG recs. Or even games that have RPG elements or RPGers might like. At some point I'm gonna get a Super System 3 from terraonion and I want to build my rom set now. Here's what I got so far.
Cadash Cosmic Fantasy 2 Dragon Slayer Dungeon Explorer Emerald Dragon (ENG trans) Exile Valis 2, 3, 4 Ys IV (ENG trans with DUB!)
There was this point n clicky style shadowgate type game. I forgot what it's called and don't know if it was CD or card. Any help there. Plus more rec's please!!
Neutopia was a good Zelda style game. I'm thinking about getting that mini console just to play Neutopia 2, and whatever else is worth playing on it. Snatcher is on there but it appears to only be in Japanese.

> C'mon. I know better. You spend all your time trying to find the best way to do

Lunar SSSC about a week ago. Before that Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE a week and a half ago. Now I'm almost 1/3 the way through Wild Arms Alter Code F. RPGs take much longer so of course you're not gonna hear about a clear 3 times a week. Do you ONLY hang out in the Retro thread? Anyway, I feel like I finally found my solution for older games. So think what you want dude. I'll be sure to come back here and update you on all my clears. But I generally do that in the can you beat a game for every system you own thread and the tokyo RPG thread.
> Valis games are ass though, I'll be impressed if you clear them because they are
> just so mediocre. They look pretty though.
The PC Engine ones have the benefit of having those early days CD rom animated sequences. And those are like sweet nostalgia injected right into my forehead. I'll be sure to post but Super System 3 doesn't restock til Summer, so please continue to wait!
Octopath and dq11 for traditional style turn based. For tactical def fire emblem. I haven't put time into a game this much since the witcher 3. I have more than double the hours in three houses than I have in p5, thanks to the different paths..otherwise prob not as many.
> Divinity is really good but has an insane difficulty/learning curve. Fudge up and
> you may as well reload. Normal difficulty is brutal.
Yeah, this is not a game for the faint of heart. It's super challenging, but it's also such a rewarding gameplay experience. I had issues with the narrative design in the final act, but the combat design throughout is about as good as it gets in a turn-based RPG. It's definitely a must-play for fans of the genre. My Switch turn-based RPG top 5 would look something like this:
1. DQ11 2. Divinity 2 3. Three Houses 4. Banner Saga 1 (only one I've played) 5. Octopath Traveler
DQ11 is just incredible and Octopath might be number 5 on my list, but it's still a damn good game! Another game that deserves some love os Valkyria Chronicles 4. Really good turn-based tactical RPG.
there is also some VVtunia info, and compile heart and nisa are supposed to have some new announcements next week, im sure all that will be largely B tier stuff, or worse in CH's case. although it is getting about time for a ToCS 4 localization to be announced. still wish xseed was doing those.
finished up all the three houses dlc and played through the main game again with the new stuff. i am ..Hapi... lol.. with what was added from it and am now well over 300 hours in game. other than challenge runs and a couple iron man ideas there isnt much left to do for now, so going to start yakuza 5 this weekend and then play 6 and judgment to get ready for 7, and maybe get back to work on the legend of heroes stuff some til Persona 5R and then FF7R take over my life for awhile. i am more than ready to do another hundred hours in persona 5 and FF7R i am dying for with every new tidbit i see..i gotta go buy some candy bars next week to get that exclusive tifa theme.
Three Houses lands easily in my personal top 10 ever so putting it down for awhile feels like I wont be seeing my best friend for awhile, the cast is so alive and I feel like i know them all. I went into this last play fully intending to S support Byleth with Constance at the end but throughout the game through supports, tea time etc, Hapi really won me over and she might even give Petra a run for her money as three houses waifu.
Well I'm in for a treat then. I always knew it would be good. I did play a BIT of it years ago. I love the battle system in that you earn special moves via different combos. Feels nice. And looks super sharp on a 4" screen, lol.
So ya march is going to be a looooooong month. FF7R from this demo rocks. I think I prefer classic mode...just feels more natural missing commands in ff7 rather than ff15 style real time but it's a cleaner real time system than 15 so they did learn something there at least (not that I didnt like 15 fine for the most part)

More Srpg than jrpg but fire emblem 4 and 5 are narratively among the series bests.. if those had gotten a snes english release they could potentially be revered among snes classics like ff6 and CT. They can only be played through translated roms, and fe5 takes place in the middle of the events of FE4.
when you get Trials you'll have to let us know how it is. my plate is just too full and i want to play the other games in the mana series first and dont know when i'll get there.
speaking of trials and trails, trails from zero, the fourth game in the Trails of series and the first game in the crossbell arc that takes place a few months after trails in the sky and at the same time as trails of cold steel, set in the state of Crossbell that sits between the powers of Calvard and Erebonia, thats never been released in america is getting a new english translation for pc, you'll have to get a japanese pc version and then download the patch. the crossbell duology was recently announced for ps4 in japan and falcoms president has said he'd like to localize it for the west as well so we may get them officially here at last at some point before long. it was said a while back the trails team would be splitting, with one side working forward on new projects and the other doing other things, which is now likely the ps4 versions of crossbell.
