I found Final Fantasy XI for PC for $10 and impulse bought it, because I always wanted to play all of the Final Fantasy games, and that's the only one I didn't have. However, now that I've tried it, the controls are just awful. It's the first time I've encountered controls so bad that I wanted to give up before I ever really saw anything in the game. I even tried it with a PS4 controller, and that helped but only a bit. Is this game worth getting into, or should I cut my losses? (Dragon Age: Origins, on the other hand, is awesome so far.)

Was looking at the confusing ys series and remakes- particularly to replay a version of 3 and find out about V- came across this really cool site.

I just hacked one of my Switches and fired up PPSP. FF7 Crisis Core runs and looks awesome. It could easily just be ported to current gen as a remaster without them doing anything. Ys 7 also looks great. It will be nice to play them both in docked and portable modes.

It was super easy. It took like 5 minutes. I don't have my Nintendo ID linked to this system so I couldn't say if it would give you issues. There is some instructions if you want to keep you ID and use the eshop. Nintendo doesn't ban accounts just the system unless you try to hack their servers. I bought a tablet only v1 Switch to use as my hacked Switch. So I have a main system and a hacked one.

I have played a few Ys games and I have loved every single one of them. I did miss out on all the PSP ones, Im thinking of hacking my PS TV just to play those impossible to buy ones.

I know Ark of Napishtism was fantastic but I barely remember the details. I could definitely play it again, but I can say that about any of the Ys games Ive played so far.

They are on PC and a potato can play them if you are interested in staying legal.

I have played through: Ys Origins, Ys Books I & II Turbob, Ys I & II Chronicles, Ys III Wanderers from Ys Turbob, Ys Oath in Felghana, Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys, Ys Memories of Celceta, Ys The Ark of Napishtim, Ys Seven, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana

So there are still a few I would like to play. At this point Nihon Falcom is one of the top two game devs left for me along with From Soft.

If we're just talking about the original FFXI storyline, it's gotten much faster and easier to do by yourself now; literally, by a factor of 100. You can out-level nearly every original challenge in the game, and up until then, you can summon your own super-powered NPC party members. I joined a custom server last year and created a new character to facilitate playing through the original storyline again, and it took less than four weeks of playing on a dad's schedule.

That said, the original storyline is nothing special. The expansion packs - especially Chains of Promathia and Wings of the Goddess - do a really good job of feeling like a traditional Final Fantasy game in this regard, complete with great cutscenes, interesting boss battles, and areas that truly feel like "final dungeons."

And if by "beat", you mean complete the entire storyline through the last mini-scenario... yeah, that's gonna take a while. And the story quality takes a huge dip after a certain point, both in terms of quality and effort on the part of the development team.

In his defense, there are a lot of plot points that don't move forward if you don't speak to an NPC multiple times, or speak to multiple NPCs in a particular order.

But that's more an issue in the remakes than in the Sega CD original.

The boss battle in Chapter 12 in Like a Dragon was pretty awesome with that electro synth music. Especially if you have been grinding and have a bunch of high level super attacks. It's so stylish. You can use the dlc characters in the main game as well..which I'd recomend they are fun.

the ashen wolves story path..Cindered shadows is the dlc campaign and is played separately..you won't play those events in any of main game paths..it takes place pre time skip and the units involved are predetermined. I played black eagles, blue lions and then golden deer and that seemed like a good order. Silver snow..the church of seiros route you get on the alternate BE path ends up very similar to the GD route in many spots.

My one complaint with the game is the story feels unfinished at times..especially crimson flower /black eagles post time skip..its strangely the shortest and yet was the first one they made.

You can play cindered shadows anytime even if you haven't played all the routes yet it won't hurt anything since it's all pre timeskip before the stories start diverging.

I'm actually going Black Eagles again because of Edelgard. I've watched the other three routes and that was enough for me. Black Eagles, as flawed as it is, is just canon for me. My goal this time around is to recruit everyone which I'm well on the way to doing thanks to all the renown you start off with in NG+. Boosted my professor level to A+ off the bat and I've just been spamming meals.

And I actually just finished the Cindered Shadows DLC. It's super solid! Loved the new characters and the new classes. It's also way more difficult than the main game. I played it on Hard and I really had to think through some of those enemy encounters to keep everyone alive.

Ya its no problem getting everyone especially in ng+. I knew you would be playing BE lol. As long as you've seen them at least..Def recomend playing them sometime or other eventually..but long as you have seen them at the least there is alot more game there. Black Eagles for life. For Lady Edelgard.

Ya CS def throws you in some situations the main game doesn't. I like the new characters too I actually S ranked Hapi in my first play after getting them as you can get them in the main game too.. I expected it to be constance as my fav but hapi is amazing she is right up there with Petra and Dorothea in the 3H waifu emblem leagues lol. If you had any supports with out of house characters in a previous game your renown will let you buy those levels too. I like the NG+ In this game it really lets you tailor your experience some. I usually grab a couple weapon levels for some characters too.

Here's hoping for a fire emblem 17 announcement/teaser this summer.

Yeah, NG+ is awesome! Having all that extra renown really makes things less of a grind. The only real bummer is that it's impossible to level everyone equally so even though I'm going to recruit everyone, I'll only be able to focus on a core group and leave a lot of them underleveled. Also, this is a bit of a spoiler so I'll tag it...

It sucks that I can't recruit Hilda. She was so awesome in the DLC and I wanted her in my main party. I really, really wish there was a "Golden" route in this game. Not being able to recruit and save everyone is such a bummer. Oh, and Hapi is awesome! I really like Constance as well. Those two are in my party all the time.

ya the retainers are not available to other routes..their loyalty is too much. Hilda is available in silver snow/church route though.

A couple like Lorenz and ashe iirc leave you anyway but you can get them back.

Ya unless you're playing normal and have infinite auxiliary battles you can't train everyone well but thats every Fire emblem game. This is a small cast for a FE but I think I prefer it if they are all as alive and fleshed out as these are. Radiant for instance has so many inconsequential characters..but most of the games are built around the idea of iron man and losing characters along the way whereas the harder modes the last two games are made around the rewind mechanics
