Thought I'd share my interaction with this individual with zero established trades where he is insisting that we both send at the same time. Maybe he is just <edit: hard headed>, but maybe he is a scammer.. just thought I'd share. The beginning of the conversation is at the bottom of the post.

<user>13-Feb

Sorry, I only do swaps and sales if you both do it at the same time. Otherwise I'm sure you can get the game off eBay or amazon. I'm very happy with what I've been doing on reddit. I sold four vita games to a guy for $173. He paid me and I mailed them out and he received them yesterday. And he confirmed it in reddit. We're both very happy.

Shawn13-Feb
hey man, check out my history on here, I have a perfect record with 50 trades.. you can trust me. Send first on this one and get at least one trade under your belt.. it will then be somewhat easier to get others trades to send at the same time. It's a great community on here. I would really like to make a trade just not willing to take the risk with a total new user. what you think? :)

<user>8-Feb
If that's how you feel that's how you feel. I'm perfectly happy doing my swap on reddit and sales on eBay. I've been doing pretty well on reddit especially this week, sold four of my ps vita import games,

Shawn8-Feb
what makes sense to me is for someone to build a reputation before they are trusted (trust is earned)... not for me to send to someone who is a total unknown to me on this site. But good luck!

<user>8-Feb
Offer Declined
Then I will have to decline. I will just stick with reddit where everyone sends at the same time. And that has worked out well for me, other then the one time where I sent first and it took me 2-3 weeks to receive the game, because the user first sent the game just a envelope and stamp and it never made it to me. Then I had to wait for them to either get another copy or to send back what I sent them. I'm never doing that again. This is why I will on swap with someone if we both do it at the same time. That is what is fair and makes sense.

Shawn8-Feb
I sent first when I first started, and usually still send first if the other user on here has a lot more trades than me. In fact, I am doing one right now for like 400-500 worth of goods.

Shawn8-Feb
Sending changed from: "both send immediately" to: "<user> sends first"
Counter-Offer

sorry, as a zero established trades user on here, I would have to insist you send first. I think you will find most other users on here will feel the same. Let me know if you change your mind as I would love to do a trade!

<user>8-Feb
Sending changed from: "<user> sends first" to: "both send immediately"
Counter-Offer

I'm only comfortable with both of us sending at the same time. I have 10 confirmed swaps and sale on reddit. I also have 100% feedback on eBay. If you don't want to swap, that's fine. No problem.

@Wolflmg check out the site rules. It is unlikely you will find anyone on GameTZ to send first to someone with no feedback and Reddit references. Reddit references are great if you're trading on Reddit.

Sending-First

There are inherent risks in trading on-line and it's best to take precautions to protect yourself. As a new user with no established reputation here, you will be asked to send first when making trades initially. This can be very risky if you yourself are dealing with another new user. For this reason, you should only deal with reputable "starred" traders until you have established your own reputation. You may not ask other established traders here to send first. If you have a high value item that you do not feel comfortable sending first, it may be best to wait until you have established your own reputation here (bronze star or above) before trying to trade or sell it.

Trade only with good traders who have stars (Bronze Star Silver Star Gold Star Double Gold Star Triple Gold Star Quadruple Gold Star Quintuple Gold Star).

Doesn't seem like a scammer, just a hard headed new user. That's pretty common. I know it sucks when it's a trade you want to do, but sometimes you have to just say fudge you and move on. He'll find out when no one here trades with him and he'll either adapt of leave.

I'm not experienced with reddit trading, so maybe I'm wrong, but I find it hard to believe that people just trade there and everyone sends at the same time. I feel like a ton of people would be getting ripped off.

ya its unfortunate especially if its for a trade on something you've been looking for for awhile. I didn't understand the system completely when I first started either.

@Wolflmg welcome to gametz, Shawn is right and this is a great community, its been here 20 years and outlasted every other one, goozex, 99 gamers, TGN, and it will outlast leaptrade and playnswap too. make a few low value trades with established users and build even just a little rep and most people are willing to send same time to people with stars. our system protects very well and the ratio of good to bad traders and good trades to people getting ripped off is exceptional here, reddit is a cesspool, lets face it, so that's why people are saying ratings there don't mean a lot here. and going back to how old this community is, so many people have seen people come in with ratings from other sites, rip a couple off and bolt, and while no one is guilty of the crimes of another because of that, there is a reliance on the system because it works. we all hope you come to be a respected and active member here at gametz, and if youd like to try out the subscriber features let us know, many of us are usually more than happy to give a week of subtime to new users so they can see all the benefits.

Yeah, I didn't take the time to do research on reddit but the whole thing didn't really pass muster... really, people just send you "$173.00" dollars and trust you to send them some stuff? If I had more time id investigate his stories on reddit...

anywho, I'm a bit of a pessimist (or realist perhaps) so I basically said fudge you and moved on. Didn't cuss him out or anything like that but the conversation definitely took an antagonistic downturn. Hopefully I haven't run off a potential new good member to the community... but I kind of doubt I am.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, does not feel like someone who would take you for a ride, just someone that's used to doing things a certain way.

@Wolflmg we all had to build up our reps here. It takes awhile but that's just how this site operates and it seems to work I have been here for almost 19 years myself! This community is fantastic so I urge you to give it a shot!

100% agree with what others have said.

To be totally truthful though, I don't think a zero trade user and a silver user should be trading at all.

If he was a silver user who had been here two months, maybe, but he's been here 3 years. Some people just don't trade much.

New users should always send first.

But I know several sites, including ravelry where people usually always pay first. They just make sure to send the PayPal as goods and services, that way you can get your money back from pp if you don't get what u paid for.

I can't believe this was my first trade. Pretty sure he was new as well and he sent first.

I got:
Burnout: Paradise (Xbox 360), Pocket Bike Racer (Xbox 360), 16gig Ipod Touch, $120

He got:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo Wii), Resident Evil 4 -- Wii Edition (Nintendo Wii), No More Heroes (Nintendo Wii), Nintendo Wii, Cables, Box, Instructions, 2gig card, Wii Sports

Kind of lucked out there.

Before we start lighting the pitchforks, I just wanna say that @Wolflmg doesn't seem like a scammer to me. Like @Shawn mentioned earlier, he comes off hard-headed more than anything: new to the culture here at GameTZ and, for now, unwilling to adapt. It's definitely a leap of faith on his end; but, then again, it's a leap of faith on someone else's end to trade with a new user. From the conversation previously shown, this guy seems like he's got his head on straight and I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that everything ended up working out for the best. wink

I don't personally find it to be good trade etiquette to put a guy on blast publicly. At least not until something approaching mail fraud has been committed. If you don't like the way trade negotiations are going, a simple "no thanks" is sufficient.

From the help section of this site:

"If a trade seems a little fishy to you, post in the forums about it to get advise from other traders."

Simply not acting like an unreseaonsable ding dong at any point and performing a trade with any user where he sends first would mostly clear his name. As well, I like to put peoples retardedness on display to others, since its validating for me. Lastly, it makes me feel a little like a super hero fighting evil and stupidity on a very micro level.

Just keeping it real yo

I only recommend trading with Gold Star users and above until you get a star yourself anyway.

Unwillingness to send first is very common and is an easy situation to avoid a trader. The trader then either adapts or leaves. This isn't a situation where alerting others is necessary. It seems more like venting, in which case, that's fine, but I wouldn't have called him out by name then.

Fair enough, it was part venting. Probably shouldn't have called out by name. Then again, I did at the time think he might be scamming, though now I think probably not.

It happens. I doubt much harm was done. I'd just delete mention of him now and make it more about venting frustrations because this can be very frustrating for more veteran users (especially because we all had to send first once upon a time). I totally get it.

And what sniff test is that? The one I was referring to relates to people trying to scam others and/or those who argue against the common sense trade rules/practices on the platform they are trying to trade on.

To be honest, there's a different new user who's failing my test- all but one of his posts has been promotion of another site. Though it does look like he's also completed one trade so far, so maybe it's just me...?

Well no scamming did take place, simply a new user that does not know how we operate. Rather than torch him on the forums maybe one could have taken it to PM's or got a mod involved to give the new guy some Gametz education.

Seems you are the one doing the judging my friend.

@Wolflmg I have done business with him in the past n said other trading site, flawlessly. With that being said that site has been a breeding ground of scammers and highly favors the seller. I would equate it to the wild wild west of internet trading right above leaptrade.

With that being said why is this in the video game discussion tread and why is this not in the gtz court? And when has it been cool to air out personal dirty laundry on a public forum?

To me the dialogue was perfectly reasonable on his part. It seems that you are more butthurt that the deal didn't go through.

The rules of GameTZ are pretty clear, and the only ones that matter when dealing on GameTZ. If you want to accept reputation from other sites, you can do so at your own risk. I've built up decent feedback on CAG (27 trades) and link to my account here, so I can get at least same time sending in a trade, but if someone with more trades asks me to send first and they seem trustworthy, then I'll send first.

With WolfImg, if I could verify his reputation on other sites, and I really wanted the trade, I might send same time. But given I have a million stars, I would've pushed for him to send first. If he doesn't want to, move on.

Not sure if he's a scammer, but there's no way in hell anyone new to the site should even be allowed to select any option other than sending first. GTZ is the ONLY trustworthy source I've found and it's because of the combined reputation system and the ability to look into someones post history.
