Title says it all. What is one bizarre, unconventional way you acquired a game?

I found Crash Bandicoot in the ditch once. This was many many years ago. I don't even remember if I tested it.

I remember finding some NES game walking home from school once, just lying on the road. Don't remember the game or if I took it. (Or even if I had an NES yet.) I've also found game cartridges in closets of new homes that I moved into. There were several NES games left behind in one house, and I found Banjo Kazooie, Star Fox 64 and some other N64 games in another house.

Cool finds to find in a new home. I didn't find any games, but once when we moved the freezer in the new place had some mondos inside.

Bought a used Christmas tree at a moving sale several years ago to use at work. Never opened it up until near Christmas when I took it in to setup at work. I started unpacking it and there were three wrapped gifts at the bottom that were obviously movies or games. Opened them up and it was Black Ops 3, Star Wars Battlefront, and a copy of The Force Awakens. Not sure what the deal was, but I've always wondered how three unopened Christmas presents ended up in the box for the tree.

I'd guess they were stashed there so the recipient wouldn't find them. Buyer forgot all about them and ended up seliing the tree laughing out loud

Met a random stranger from Reddit's r/gamesale forum irl to buy some steelbooks. Not that weird, but I find any sort of meetup that was arranged from Reddit to be odd

A pale guy with a goatee approached me on the street, and offered me a copy of Assassin's Creed: Rogue in exchange for my soul. I feel like I got the sweeter end of the bargain.

Especially since I had already sold my soul to Davie S. in elementary school in exchange for a pack of Shark Bites. They'll have to work it out amongst themselves.

One day I was going around my neighborhood on yard sales and I walked into a house thinking there was an estate sale going on, but they were doing a tear down/clean out of a foreclosed property. I apologized and told them I thought a yard sale was going on and they told me I could go through the house and take anything inside I wanted. I got about a dozen GameBoy/GameBoy Color games for free. Off the top of my head, I remember the best games were a copy of Pokemon Blue and Sgt. Rock on the Frontline.

Maybe not games, but consoles. I won a Kellogg's contest and got a DSi (traded up to a DSi XL) for benstylus. Bought a Dreamcast from a tattoo parlor.

@sailorneorune What Kellogg's contest was offering a DSi? Is there an old link to a press release or something?

It was way back in like 2009 or 2010. They had a sweepstakes with their cereal.

Inside the box was a card saying she won, and to enter the code on the website to see what she won.

And it ended up being the grand prize, a DSi. (I don't know exactly how many grand prize winners there were).

Man, that's sweet! All I remember getting was Pirates of the Caribbean Skull Strobe lights and a Shrek the Third cereal bowl. The latter was particularly cool and held a lot of cereal.

YOU BASTARD, THAT SOUL WAS MINE! GIVE ME BACK MY SHARK BITES!

Edit: This joke would make more sense if my name were visible. Poof!

Edit 2: Wait a sec we're both in California? Now this is getting creepy...

I traded a gaming bundle for a pool table on craigslist. While checking out the pool table I noticed they had an NES and games stashed in the garage. When I asked about it the guy said take it.

One year on Black Friday, Old Navy was opening at Midnight and was giving away Lego Rock Band to the first customers to check out and spend a certain amount of money. I ran in there, grabbed two random pair of pants, and then bee-lined for the register, securing my Wii copy of Lego Rock Band. A week later, I returned the pants. winking raspberry

I was on Facebook marketplace and bought a loose GBA game from someone, they requested to meet at a church parking lot. I get to the parking lot and there is some sort of event going on and the people think I am there for that I keep telling them I'm not and spend like 30 minutes in my car figuring out if the person is actually going to be there. After the church people leave to get inside the church, I see an old lady stumble out of their car and walk towards my car thinking it was another church related person I just tell them that I'm not there for the event. She says that she is sorry as she didn't realize there was an event and just handed me the game without taking the $10 or so that she mentioned and left.

I was just left stunned for a good while as while I recall the game being something around that price range anyways, but it was just the weirdest interaction I've had trying to buy something.

Sadly no. We didn't play it enough to justify moving it 500 miles. Good news was I got four times what I was trying to sell the games for that I traded for the table, plus I got some free NES stuff.
