Surge came out today. so far not bad. very nioh and bloodborn feel as in fast combat. switching limbs takes some getting used to.
Phantom Dust remaster is supposed to be out today for free.
injustice came out today as well. grabbed that on my ps4 though,
Couldn't play on PC last night till I disabled my internet. Annoying.
Gonna try again now on my XB1X now that Xbox.com says all services are running again. Fingers crossed as I have yet to play 1 damn mission in Gears 5 due to these outages.
You could have played if you turned the internet off on whatever device you were trying to play on.
Ah yeah. But then my wife would have killed me for interrupting her Netflix time Haha. I got in finally and it's glorious!!! Might be the best Gears I've played yet.
DDoS'ing is so freaking irritating and there doesn't really seem to be a feasible way of preventing it from happening consistently.
I remember when these first started happening on a large scale to XBL and all the armchair programmers online were saying how easy they are to stop and it would only cost like $25 to prevent them from ever happening again. I'm pretty sure that if something were really easy to implement and prevent parts of the largest server infrastructure in the world from being brought down, then MS would have already had those measures in place. You can almost anticipate that upon every major MP heavy game release that there will be a DDoS attack.
Ya, I was having issues with XBL and Gears 5 all weekend. Friend kept getting booted from my party constantly. Server disconnects, etc. I can only imagine what horrors await XBL tomorrow when Gears 5 actually releases to the rest of the public.
Weird. I had XBL issues for only about an hour Friday night in that I couldn't sign in at all. The rest of the weekend it was fine. I played DMC5 in the morning for a bit then from about 7am-8pm I had SingTV on for background noise while I doing a kitchen remodel, and it never lost connection. Maybe its an issue more with Gears then XBL? I"m not sure, thats strange though.
Oh it's definitely a Gears 5 issue. The Coalition is well aware of all the issues ppl are having from disconnects to syncing issues like with progress of collectibles. My bet is the servers are flooded. I guess they did not anticipate just how many people would get Game Pass or pre-order the game to receive early access on 9/5. What The Coalition needs to do is ring up Microsoft and go yeah, can we crack open the champagne later to celebrate the critical success of Gears 5 and give us more server capacity now before people start rage quitting and lose interest?
I'm listening to a podcast on youtube which is hosted by a panel of PS4 guys ranging from close the middle of the road to the hardcore fanboys and the entire panel is saying how this game took them by surprise with how good it is and how good it looks in motion. It seems to me that this game is a much bigger hit than originally anticipated and is probably going to drive a lot of GP subs, and its probably whats leading to alot of the server issues, like what you were saying. They've been pretty fast to patch the glitches too. There was some checkpoint glitch that was noticed and it was patched like an hour after they were made aware of it. I don't think I can play until the end of the month, so they'll probably have most everything fixed by that point.
Also, if you think this is bad with DDoS stuff, just image when Halo Infinite launches along side Scarlet. Its going to be insane.
Oh absolutely. It seems like this always happens anyway with a big Halo or Gears game launch, so I'm not too stunted by it. Just gotta wait a week or two for things to level themselves out a bit.
Anybody have experience with the digital game refunds? I submitted one going on 5 days ago now with no response.
I think they'll refund you depending on how long you've played the content. Their limit is supposed to be something like 3-4 hours.
I read something that said it was like Steam and as long as it is within 14 days with less than 2 hours played, it should be refundable. When I submitted it, it said there would be a response within 72 hours, so I just thought it was weird that I'm almost at 5 days now.
maybe 72 hours minus any weekends or something
> maybe 72 hours minus any weekends or something
Apparently the issue was that nothing had actually been submitted, even though it said on the website that it had. Mobile browsers don't work well with their refund system, it seems.
Some new GP additions:
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Dirt Rally 2.0
Bloodstained is phenomenal. That add alone is awesome.
I was going to buy it but now I guess I don't need to. GP has saved me over $100 this month alone with the additions of Gears 5, Dead Cells, and Bloodstained. Can't wait to get my game room up and running, my backlog is getting crazy.
Shante is super short too. There is an achievement for beating the game with 100% in less than 3 hours and I was able to do it after my initial playthrough once I knew where things were at and it wasn't that hard.
Ya Shantae is fun but agreed super short. Can be finished in one sitting for sure.
My first playthrought I beat it without any health upgrades and it only took me maybe 5 hours, most of that was the final boss fight because he would 1-hit kill me with only having 3 hearts.
Of all the great games, I burn a lot of time playing The Kingdom 1 or 2. Xbox X with GamePass only way it could be better is if the X came with 2TB like my Gears 4 system I traded for the X had, not sure if GamePass is good for Xbox cause I have no interest in buying Xbox games anymore BUT it is really good for me. Like a Giant rental service. Yoku, Hollow Knight, Guacamole, Dead Cells, Shantee, & Bloodstained Whoa! Don't even have space or time for Gears of War 5 yet. Best Service Ever!
When they removed The Kingdom was nice to have Two Crowns to play. Picked up The Kingdom on sale on the switch later on.
If they're removing a game you like you can buy it for 20% off too which is pretty cool. The developer of the game Decenders said that once their game went on GP their sales quadrupled, so devs to see spikes in their sales once it goes onto GP, but I'm sure that varies quite a bit from game to game. I love game pass and the way that I see it, it pretty much pays off the cost of the console in maybe 6-12 months of use. This month alone is has saved me $100, last month it saved me probably around $75, and next month it has already saved me another $60 with Outer Worlds being a day 1 addition.
Fable, the most over promised and under delivered series ever, at least to me.
I really liked Fable 2 for some reason. It had it's hooks in me for the real estate portion and revenue system. The rest were eh.
Fable 1 was pretty good, never played 2, and 3 seemed really rushed. I can see why MS closed Lionhead and canned Fable Legends though, the series was just heading in a really strange direction and it needed some time off while they figured out what to do with it and who the best people for the job would be. I think they've made a good choice by buying Playground Games and putting them on the job, they're really good at everything they've done so far to the point to where they have zero competition right now.
I hope Playground Games proves that it isn't just about making racing games and they have the ability to make games of other genres as well. Kinda how Guerilla Games, who was only known for the Killzone FPS series, had such a great breakout with Horizon: Zero Dawn that was a lush action/adventure game that was developed like it was almost second nature to Guerilla.
I guess this Playgrounds Games studio isn't totally associated with the one that makes racing games. This one was formed and staffed with new people to specifically only make RPGs, they call it "The RPG Team" right now. They're something like 200-300 people deep too, so they're not a little dev right now either. They're an extension of Playground in that they shair the same tech and some of the people from the racing team help out with their areas of expertise when needed.
Ah, I see. This may potentially be the best Fable game ever then.
Yeah, back when it came out the tech was no where near where they needed it to be. The game even had to be broken up into like 30 little pieces so if you needed to go from one side of the map to the other you had to sit through a ridiculous amount of loading screens, it was really irritating. Freaking P.M promised so much with this game back when it was codenamed "Porject Ego" but he was just straight lying.
With Scarlett I'm sure they'll have all the resources they need to make the true Fable vision come to life. It may even feature reliable co-op play, like the 2nd or 3rd game was trying to have and failed so hard at. I remember playing coop with a friend and like you couldn't move 5 feet without getting stuck and waiting for your partner to catch up as you were restricted to a little bubble that was about 25 feet in diameter, if that. So bad.
The teasing continues for a new Batman game. I posted a similar article on the PS4 discussion thread because they said a reveal may drop during today's State of Play but now they're speculating a reveal is coming on an Inside Xbox update, which is scheduled for later on this evening. I hope it amounts to something.https://www.xboxachievements.com/news/news-33892-W...
They probably don't want to announce Batman next to TLoU2 because it would be largely forgotten. It would do better in the MS show but you never know where they are going to announce it at. Never been a big fan of the Batman games though. I enjoyed AA but that was the only one that I found to be really good, the rest were a bit of a slog. Great for the Batman fans though, they've been waiting a while for this game so hopefully it can deliver.
Ya, I liked some parts of Arkham Origins, like the Deathstroke fight and some other boss fights was pretty cool, like Firefly but it wasn't as good for me as the first 3 Rocksteady Arkham games. I'll take what I can get though. Been almost 5 years without a good Batman game, so I'd see what they have on tap and ya maybe they got better with time. It's been almost 7 years since Origins so maybe they learned a thing or two since then.
No Batman today, I'm expecting that maybe during XO19 since its a much bigger show. After Party looks decent, I may give it a try since its going to be in Game Pass day 1.
Ah well. Alas the mystique of those Tweets continues. When is XO19? November? Could be saving it for that or The Game Awards since that show isn't about game awards and more about world premieres. Kinda like a mini-E3.
XO19 is Nov 14. The Game Award show is only there for Keighley to show his undying love for Kojima, nothing more.
And the best game in every category including racing goes to Death Stranding.
Definitely, that thing is going to sweep the awards show like nothing else we've ever seen. This may even be the year that we see Keighley propose to Kojima, its been a long time coming.
Games with Gold
Tumbo the Badass Elephant
Friday the 13th
Ninja Gaiden 3
Despite the majority, I enjoyed Ninja Gaiden 3. Not a bad month for GWG.
I've never watched a single game award show and I don't have any desire to. The reveals aren't a big deal for me and anything they've shown in the past is stuff I don't mind waiting to just check out through recaps. Keighley is awful and I stopped going to IGN since they cover TV and comics more than games these days.
So I've got an 1X coming next week, pretty excited.
I plan to co-op play Gears 4 and then Gears 5 with a friend. On Gears 5, do you need 3 people or can you do with 2? Do they just give you a rando 3rd person AI or what?
AI, it's just the max player count is now 3.
I think the 3rd player plays as Max the robot guy and if you don't have a human controlling him then the AI takes over since hes mainly just a support character anyhow.
Jack the AI guy
Oh yeah, Jack, my mistake.
Ok so I guess my question is this then, If I have 3 playing 3 man split screen will the 3rd person not really be doing anything?
Apparently Jack is a tank who's fun to play according to one of my friends who's played him.
> Apparently Jack is a tank who's fun to play according to one of my friends who's

Ok that sounds cool. Need to get thru 4 first anyways.
From what I've heard you just fly around the battle field wrecking dudes with him. He can shock guys, freeze them, do all kinds of different things. Gears 5 supports 3 player local coop too which, this gen, has become a really rare thing.
My friend was having a blast playing as Jack the AI tech bot when we were playing campaign co-op in Gears 5. It seems that he can offer not only support but also get beefed up with upgrades to even down opponents and take them out on his own. Countless times when I went to help Jack, my buddy was like na I got this and just zapped them and fried locusts to extra crispy BBQ. Pretty neat.
That sounds bad ass.
Gonna try it out 3 man split screen local. 150" screen really helps these types of games
If you're playing split screen on a 150" you'll have a much better time than I did. I tried split screen with my cousin and it turns the gameplay into a 4:3 ratio for some odd reason while the cutscenes are still in 16:9 ratio. Kind of bizarre.

That is weird, did you do 2 player or 3 player?
2 player local split screen I tried a couple of times and it squished the screen to a 4:3 ratio. Online co-op does not adjust the aspect ratio at all though.
If you're playing on the X1X then its 1080p @ 30fps during 3 player local coop which is pretty sweet, so its not like Borderlands where coop almost crashes the console.
I still haven't gotten to BL3 yet. I'm waiting for the first round of patches to finish rolling out as I watched a bunch of vids on YT about how bad the performance is on both consoles and PC's alike.
> If you're playing on the X1X then its 1080p @ 30fps during 3 player local coop which

Ya it's going to be an X1X so I am pretty hyped.
One of the worst parts about BL3 is that they just ported the settings from the X1 to the X1X so it runs and looks worse than the PS4 Pro version. It takes a pretty big screw up to let that happen. When Gears 5 holds an almost perfect 60fps at up to native 4k using the Unreal Engine 4, BL3 has no excuses other than being lazy AF with what they released.
Ya I remember Digital Foundry touched on that .I was blown away that the PS4 Pro version had a more consistent framerate in performance mode than the X did. Gearbox really screwed the pooch on that one.
Guess I'll get BL3 for PS4 then... That's quite a mistake
I'm sure it will be patched. Same thing happened to Titan Fall 2 and they patched it like 2 days later. I think that GB is backlogged quite a bit trying to fix this game which seems to be broken on pretty much everything right now.
Poor GB. They haven't been the same since Aliens: Colonial Marines. I blame Randy Pitchford and his weird cat porn fetishes.
was BL2 after Aliens? I freaking loved BL2. From what I've heard BL3 is really fun, it is just a technical mess right now.
