Might as well get it started. Who's looking forward to it? I personally think that it could beat PS5, that is if they don't screw up. They need a basic UI, more first party titles, and focus only on gaming. They own the license to Rare games, we need to see new Conkers, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, etc. They did alright with Killer Instinct, I'll give them that, but they're sitting on a lot of games that needs remade, remastered, and sequels.
As far as I know, it's slightly more powerful than the PS5, which isn't a big deal. But what is a big deal is that it will come with more storage. XBSX will have 1TB, which I admit, is not much by today's standards. The PS5 will have 825GB, which is ridiculous. I'm guessing that the next gen games will be around 100gb or more in size on average. If that is the case, I expect the discs will be on 4k UHD blu-rays.

It's great if it fits your need. Do you have a 4k tv? If yes, then I'd just save up for an XSX, otherwise you'll be disappointed. If you don't have a 4k tv then it's a great little system with Game Pass.

As mentioned above, for backwards-compatible stuff it runs the Xbox One S code (without any X1X enhancements) so although the games run very well, they don't look so sharp. On a 4k tv I found this pretty disappointing (even with any hardware upscaling) coming from an X1X where I was used to the higher-res.

Coming from a PS4 it'll feel like a side-step graphically, but UI and hardware-wise it's better for sure.

If you just want to play some Xbox stuff on the cheap, I'd prob recommend the X1X over the XSS even if they cost about the same. You can then get cheap used games for the X1X, and they'll be running the better BC versions.

No, it's got a very weak GPU (weaker than the One X) but a superior CPU and an SSD. It's going to load games faster than the One X but they will have worse resolution. in some cases the framerate might be a little better, but really all it is is a One S that loads faster and has slightly better framerate.

I agree with this. The One X is a superior machine. The only drawback is some loading times because it does not have an SSD, but you will get better performance, plus the One X has a disc drive so you can buy cheap games and resell them, unless you just want a Gamepass machine then that point is moot.

It will look a little better than a PS4 but worse than a PS4 Pro.

Real question is...should I get a series x, or just stick with my gaming PC that had a 1660ti as a bottleneck? Been waiting for the graphic card prices to go down to upgrade it.

Thanks for the input guys. I actually ordered the series s a couple hours ago after arguing with myself a little. Admittedly I was concerned the console would not be available if I waited much longer. Even if the series x was available I would not have gotten it over the s, I just don't game as much as I used to so couldn't justify spending the $500 over the $300. I do have a lower end Samsung 4k TV but if the graphics are just as good as my ps4 I'll be happy. I just want to catch up on some exclusives and don't even know if I'd be playing online.

@longhornsk57 , I've been living in a ps4 bubble for years now and didn't even know the x vs s gpu difference. Did you suffer through an s and then bought an x, or just going by research?

More research. Plus I have an OF Xbox one hooked up (it's the Just Dance machine for my wife) so I tested it out and you can easily see the difference.

I did go from a One X to a series X as far my gaming goes, and a PS4 Pro to a PS5.

If you just want to game a few exclusives honestly you'll be fine. When you're getting shot at hard core in Gears 5 or Halo MCC you don't notice the graphics as much as trying to stay alive.

It's actually much more of a jump on PS5 because IMO their games have better all around graphics and stories and scenery where you'd notice that stuff. X1 exclusives are usually more run n gun.

That is about to change. With all the studios they are buying up, the xbox exclusives over the next few years will mostly be single player games.

Maybe, maybe not. But I'm really just talking about right now. The PS4 to PS5 jump is much more noticeable than the One to One X jump because of current game quality.

Bethesda isn't really known for good graphics anyways honestly.

I had an X1X and then got an XSS (because I couldn't find a XSX). The visual downgrade from 4k for me was a little rough but I loved the hardware itself and how zippy the XSS is.

I eventually found an XSX here so at one point I had the X1X, XSS, and XSX at the same time. My son didn't care which he played and honestly didn't notice the diff between the X1X and XSS besides load times (which is absolutely significant and noticeable). Since he loses interest in stuff I kept the X1X so that I could buy cheap older games for him on disc, and I sold the XSS.

But now he's only playing Game Pass stuff so I regret letting the XSS go. If you haven't been in the Xbox ecosystem in awhile, the XSS is a way more compelling option and you should be plenty happy with it.

I am eagerly awaiting the day I can sell my XSX, because that means I moved over to a proper gaming PC. With China cracking down on crypto mining there could be some things happening on the PC GPU market... we are already seeing a decline in price, they are still ridiculously priced but it's starting to come down.

I am not really sure how it ever escaped me, but I been playing Dying Light recently on my Series X with FPS boost and this game is really good. It's a great game with good gameplay, a cool story, and with the SX there's virtually no load time.

I am probably 90% thru the main story so looking to beat it this week, but it's definitely a good zombie game played in 1st person. It's half parkour, half sneak around, and half FPS shooter style. There also crafting, weapons upgrades, and a skill tree. Definitely a pleasant surprise of a game.

I really miss the days when you could buy a game, put it in the system, and play it. I had picked up "The Outer Worlds" late last year. Right when I got it I installed it on my system IIRC it was like 40+GB off the disc and another 20+ GB to update. My internet speed is decent (200 Mbps) but it still took hours to install. I finally got around to starting the game and as soon as I put in the disc this evening it came up with another mandatory 30GB+ update. It's truly maddening.

So now I have the SX and SS, the SX is one ugly system. They didn't even try to make it good looking. Maybe it should have been the white system with black contrast etc. The SS is slick and nice little set up. Guess I will have to upgrade my main TV its a X900E and stats show no Dolby Vision or 120fps. Bedroom TV X900F that I have the SS on shows no 120FPS. I honestly cant tell the difference from my X, that system must have been a beast and the SX not have the true next Gen game yet or I haven't booted one up yet. I didn't take the time to confirm but pretty sure Hellblade via GamePass was much cleaner on the SX on the H900E. (the E/F I have are both 65") Have Gears 5 I could boot up, what should show the power of the SX with the TVs I have?

Want to upgrade the front TV but not sure its a good time to burn that cash after the SX/SS and Expansion card purchase. PS the Expansion Card is flawless swapping between the two.

I know the LG CX is nice what about the C1? Is it an upgrade? If the X900H drops much lower may just get it.

While I don't have a SX, from my understanding, the visuals won't differ much from the 1X right now except for maybe some draw distance. However, many games will feel better by them running at 60fps instead of 30fps.

Some games to try out:
- AC: Valhalla
- Yakuza: Like a Dragon
- Forza Horizon 4
- Gears 5
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Once you get a TV that supports 120hz, check out the Halo Master Chief Collection.

Have been playing Forza 4, its beautiful but was beautiful before. Will have to play more and just drive around more to see. Have Yakuza DL from gamepass (gamepass is so nice, glad to have it again) and will play Gears 5 as soon as the wife gives up the TV lol

Also the TVs are 120hz pretty but don't support it for gaming. Don't think the Sony X900H did either until a software update.

Love the load times and swapping between games and loading previous games back up quickly. Though the SS is great at this too.

Do you leave your SX "On" or fully power down. I have been fully powering down cause of where I have the SX. It's in a large cabinet built in next to the mantel. I leave the doors open when playing but like when I had my X in there if I don't fully power down its still generating heat and I have lost a HDMI cable that way. About a 25ft run so don't want to lose another one. Even my Expansion card was warm when I took it out to use on the SS.

I don't ever turn it off, but it's on top of a cabinet with full air all around it, so it's got plenty to breathe. It definitely generates more heat than my PS5 though that's for sure.

Speaking of Micro$oft, how about that Windows 11. It requires TPM 2.0 and secure boot, which means there's a chance that you're missing one, or both of those things. You can get a TPM chip added on but...scalpers already know that people will be needing it.

The minimum requirements is at least 4gb RAM, which is understandable, a graphics card that supports WDDM 2.0 and directx 12, but the BEST PART of the whole thing...you need at least an 8th gen intel processor, or 2nd gen AMD Ryzen-era processors.

If you haven't noticed, this is exactly what Microsoft did with windows vista. They not only changed the appearance of the OS, but also upped the system requirements so high, that a lot of people may not be able to afford it for a while. The prices of graphics cards isn't helping either. Luckily for the people who's currently using unsupported hardware, they still have 4 years to use windows 10 safely. Hopefully by that time, online scalping will be illegal, and prices of graphics cards will go back to normal.

But of course Linux is still a thing, and can handle most windows-only steam games just fine. Xbox games for PC is a different story.

I love my XSX but there really isn't any (graphically) killer app yet. And it's not going to be Halo Infinite. I think it's a fantastic system but the primary focus has been on backwards-compat...Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks and runs incredible with framerate boost. It almost feels like it could be a new release.

Play Forza Horizon 4 on both the XSS and the XSX and you will absolutely see a difference. Just look at the lines on the road.

Hitman 3 is also really good. Such a clean 4k/60fps that previous hardware couldn't do.

> Have Gears 5 I could boot up, what should show the power of the SX with the TVs I have?

Gears 5 is prob the best looking game I've played on the XSX so far. It was already amazing on the X though. But the XSX adds more density and reflections and such. Plus load times are better.

I know I am behind the times but after ditching my old PS4 for a XSS I am really enjoying the change. Admittedly, Crackdown 3 was my most anticipated exclusive to play, but I also got to play Forza 7 and that was not a disappointment. Next up is Forza Horizons 4 and Gears 5.

I thought I struck gold with a 2TB ext hard drive I saved from my PS4, but turns out its only half useful. I was able to save Crackdown 3 and Forza 7 to it but I'll have to put Forza Horizons 4 and Gears 5 on the internal drive.

I keep all of my XSX "upgraded" and XSX-optimized stuff on the internal drive (because it's required to be there to play it), but everything else on an external 500GB external SSD. If I know I'll stick with a previous gen game for a longer time I'll usually move it to internal until I'm done in hopes that it'll load faster. I play plenty of X1 stuff off the external drive though, and it's been problem free.

Forza 4 was pretty on both the X and SS but as I play more its easy to see the reflections and just overall sharpness. More details going from Day/Night. The dumb thing is the game is locked at 900p on XBox X, while its 1080p on a PS4 PRO. And was able to hit 60fps after a PRO patch years ago (unlocked the frame rate, so it fluxed, probably rarely hit 60). But the game never got an XBox X Enhanced patch (equivalent to a PRO patch) to up it to 1080p and have an unlocked FPS. So I think its really strange its getting the FPS boost now, but is still locked at an odd resolution. I would rather have the game be 1080p and 30fps. I know I'm in the minority for that stuff. But the whole 900p stuff with some XBox games is strange to me.

Kickstarter and useless junk you won't get for years, name a more iconic duo.

I remember buying an intec screen for the GameCube years back. That was back when lcd screens were really bad, and it had lots of motion blur and bleeding colors, and you had to look at it straight on or the colors washed out.

I'm sure this will be better, but you better hope the S doesn't need to phone home to keep playing your digital games

I am actually interested smile Being its for the Series S, instead of different color clips, and 1080p 60hz. How about 1440p 120hz white clips only, I am sure a bulk of the R/D went into the different colors.

The price kind of kills it, especially since it's basically limited to the current revision of the Xbox Series S. I would be interested if the panel was 120hz and used a modular housing that could convert the panel into something that could be used on other devices,

I was kind of thinking along those lines- will this be obsolete once it ships?

So I'm downloading MK11 and after it got to a certain it stated Ready to start, but it won't start. I restarted my XSS and it still won't start. The download is still progressing though. Anyone ever have this issue?

Yeah. It did this to me. It only let me do quick matches etc until fully downloaded. Started though. Maybe try to full dl, uninstall if still.

Ok thanks, I'll try after to give it another go after the dl is complete, and then uninstall/reinstall if needed.

Are you downloading an external drive? If the game has been optimized for the Series X|S, it needs to run from the internal drive.

That's exactly what my problem turned out to be. I know I had set things to auto dl to my external drive but when I started to install MK11 I had to clear room on my internal drive. Seems like it would have installed there since it made me clear the room.

I'm up and running now, thanks for the help.

Yeah, found that out when I was moving games off the internal to the external. Gears 5 wouldn't load off the external drive.

Speaking of drives I invested in that Seagate NVME memory card and its awesome. Transfers and plays games just like it's a part of the internal SSD.
