Ikari III The Rescue. It's painfully generic but the enemy placement makes it fun. The AI is so stupid and only attacks directly how they're supposed to it's almost like a stealth game where you sometimes slowly pull aggro and sometimes just run to push as many enemies as possible off the screen.

I don't know what tier Cobra Triangle falls in, but that is a game my brothers had fun playing. I enjoyed watching them as a kid, they had some mad skills.

Thanks again for all the C Tier NES suggestions!... I think it's a fun category to discuss because with so many titles on the Nintendo Entertainment System there is a decent chance that even collecting veterans might become newly aware of a game that gives them some joy in spite of flaws.

e.g. you aren't going to find T&C II, Ikari III or Wrath of the Black Manta on many (any?) greatest NES games or hidden gems lists.

Some suggestions so far that would seem to fairly safely fall into C category... T&C II, Ikari III, Amagon, Batman, Rescue Rangers, Wrecking Crew, Monster in my Pocket, Cobra Triangle (?)...

I think I will also throw City Connection in there... it's a fairly simple earlier arcade-type game IMO that can be a bit hard to put down if you like a challenge.

Keep em coming

Time Lord, The Immortal, TMNT (should definitely be C-tier), Zelda 2 (borders on B-tier but I'm still salty), Astyanax, Rush 'n Attack, Super Spy Hunter, Rad Racer, Simon's Quest, Faxanadu, put Batman in B-tier.

Well, you'll want to mod it because its baseline functionality is trash, so if you can't do it, you may be taking a trip to the farm, too.

hmm, it does help the Switch some with 4K, but not a huge step. It's like the difference between AV and S-video.

Will test some other resolutions like 480p and 720p.

I did a 30-second test with Link's Awakening, and it does do a nice job smoothing out the jaggies. The toggle on the side makes it easy to see the difference.

I just got my UltraHDMI-modded N64 back after over 2 months with the modder. Pretty damn stunning. Looking forward to breaking it in with a classic.

I thought about playing Super Mario 64 DS instead so I can do it on my commute, but I've already played through that version, and I think it's inferior. Never mind not having analog controls... The character switching is much more annoying than picking up hats.

Also the only reason I didn't say Golgo 13 for C-tier is because that game is at least B-tier, but I imagine that would fit into the style of games you're looking for. Ikari III is kind of janky so it's C-tier, Golgo 13 is fantastic IMO.

I remember I used to be so scared of accidentally deleting my Goldeneye 007 saves. Some 00 Agent levels are real tough like Control so those saves were precious. Mario 64 I'd max out all 4 save files then delete one and do it again in a weekend. What a game.

Recently I was talking to someone I usually agree with a fair bit but he hated on SM64 and we had some worrrrddddds. All his reasons are gameplay related but this is also someone that doesn't like SMW because it's "mind-numbingly easy".

Do they just not like platform games or are they 2 hardc0re for Mario games? Mario games have the best controls around, so even if something is 2ez for you, there's probably a way to improve your movement and do it even better.

SMW is an easy game but it's not so easy to the point where it impacts the fun like Kirby's Dream Land or something.

As someone who is 15 years into working on a complete NES collection, I encourage you to not go beyond the number of games that fit in this tub. Save yourself some sanity.

The latter.

He recently got bored during the 10th loop or so of Super C and turned off his system. Had around 70 lives stockpiled. His goal was the hit max score initially.

So what does he consider hardcore enough?

He likes as @DefaultGen would call them, fudgein' video games and many of them and has quite a nice curated collection. Too many games to list.

So he doesn't like Mario but then does just love Kirby due to how Kirby looks. I don't think he really cares to play those games though, just has a ton of Kirby merch (over 20 plushies alone).

I wish this was on PS4.

These are great releases though. I want to get this and the Bravo one at GCU pricing.

As a kid with no guides, internet, etc for help i wouldnt call it mind numbing easy. It was very satisfying finding all the secrets on my own.

I mean it is very easy. Last time I ended the game pretty much maxed out on lives (this is even easier in new Mario games). There is definitely no challenge to it if you are good at platforming games so I can get that view of it even if I do love the game myself for the charm and fun factor alone. Sometimes I don't want a hard game.

I'm not really sure where you would need the internet or guides for the game. It's pretty straightforward especially compared to how cryptic some games got back then.

100% in SMW is pretty impressive, especially back in the day.

It wasn't the platforming that's hard.

Well yeah but you don't have to do that to beat the game. 1CC is a joke and I'm guessing 1LC is pretty easy too. I didn't think we were talking about 100%?

Some people get too lost in game theory and forget about the fun factor for sure.
