I think the GBA version of Final Fight One is pretty easy. I think they added a progression system, continue via start of last stage type of thing. I think I'll play my copy in the spirit of togetherness this month. It's been a while since I charged up my micro and it's a quick fun game.

I was wondering if this thread can help me get to the bottom of something. I have a number of Genesis games that have cover art which is on thin paper, way thinner than the 'normal' thicker Sega Genesis cover art that I am used too. The quality is such that it doesn't appear to be a totally obvious fake... so I am wondering if others can share if there were OEM Sega Genesis games with cover art printed on thin paper?.. or otherwise if I should just conclude it is fake cover art.

Specifically, here are some examples of games I have with this 'issue'. The paper is so thin on both that most of the art has a wavy quality to it (some areas more than others) which I expect occurred just due to moisture in the air at some point:

Many/most Genesis inserts are garbage IMO. Being way too thin to the point where it's normally just slightly crinkly and wavy all the time would be a sign of authenticity to me. Those are definitely real. The inserts on most Saturn and Sega CD cases are made from the same cheap crap.

Final Fight is crap even by beat em up standards. I don't understand you guys. It's the hardest beat em up we've done besides SoR3 I think too. I can barely get to stage 5.

I'm going to try the SNES version because it sucks and is missing stages and can't support as many enemies on screen so maybe I'll have a better chance.

I haven't played it, but it does look a lot more fleshed out. Still, I'm always going to defend the SNES port in terms of play control, sound design*, graphics, and fun factor.

*Not so much the music, but the sound effects. The crunch of the punches and kicks is second to none for that series.

OK I played a bunch of home ports of Final Fight:

Sega CD Final Fight CD One of the easier versions because of how many lives you get. It has all levels and the most enemies on screen, specifically lots more Andores. It gives you 5 credits and generously continues start you where you died. It looks and sounds the best, no surprise.

Super Nintendo Final Fight Fewer enemies and missing a hard level, but continues start you at the beginning of the level. It's easier than SCD if you're good enough to not die, but harder if you suck. Only 3 credits.

Super Nintendo Fight Fight Guy OK hold up, they replaced Cody with Guy? I always thought this game added Guy. Lmao, fudge Cody. This is possibly the easiest version because I think Guy is the best character and it has the limitations of the other SNES game, but continues still send you back and you only get 3 credits. I noticed some very minor enemy/item differences from the other SNES game.

Game Boy Advance Final Fight One Basically the SNES version with more enemies on screen and the missing level is added back. Lower res, but sometimes improved graphics. Absolutely the hardest one IMO. The sound is awful too.

Best version difference: The SNES version adds subtitles to the "Oh my car" guy because you can't understand wtf he's saying on an SNES.

I think it was well priced for what it is. You save $200 for the task of finding the right disk and completing it, then sell the extra disk 3 to make up for the cost of getting the missing disk.

You can only hit him when he closes in on you at an angle. Takes winning the lottery to line that up with the unending swarm of adds during the fight. Sometimes he ignores that he's In a hitting pattern and chucks you anyways and you have to pray to Christ if he red charges you, you've got the health to counter with a crowd control. Topic of the Day:

Is collecting/collectarding getting in the way of playing time?

Collecting and playing can co-exist but it is a zero-sum game. Any time you are looking/research/maintaining your games is time away from playing.

Or it's cutting into your personal non-gaming time. Vice-versa of course.

Depends on how much you prioritize playing and collecting, if you are not playing as much as you'd like, you should decrease the time you spend on eBay/deal hunting.

Huge lols. Definitely a lot of hypocrisy.

Though there is a difference between incidental collecting and doing it as an investment. I never intended for my anime collection to be the monstrosity it is now but that's what happens when you basically never sell anything and "small" sale purchases are 7 items like my last Rightstuf buy. >_<

I try to buy games telling myself I'd be okay with it being worthless the next day but ease of resale definitely makes some bigger prices easier to swallow.

No I've done a good job of playing everything new I buy. I've essentially been moving from switch game to switch game. Buying and beating as I go along. The newest game I've beaten is DQXIs and now I am on Witcher III.

So my retro buying has mostly halted. But if I am ever in drought I will be a few retro games a couple at a time and play them. I still have a plenty big backlog. Working on Switch and some unbeaten PS1 rpgs right now.

Not necessarily. Particularly with home consoles, you can only play when you're at home parked in front of your television. You can research, browse, and buy anywhere with an Internet connection.

Very much so ... part of my thinking was ... get 'em now, play 'em later ... that was a very long time ago.

I am making a conscious effort to sit down and play more, but overall time has dwindled, and its easier to just check and see if I can add something to the collection than take the time to dig out the system, hook it up, make sure it works, find a game and start. They say starting is the hardest part.

Josh is a gangster, one of the OG's and runs conventions with a lot of community involvement in his area locally as well as online. He actually has downsized quite a bit after that video, steadily. I think it was a turning point for him, and kinda wanted to make the video to push himself to do what he's talking about.

I think this is a very prevalent issue. If I'm right, people might not even realize they are sacrificing play time for collecting. This someday mentality is really detrimental, enjoy playing(or life/whatever else you want to do) today.

No grand plan required, just take out one system and pick out 1 game(Final Fight) and play tonight. I had like 8 systems hooked up, and recently I swapped it to just one retro system. Once you've done the aforementioned hard part, playing every night should come easy.

Delete your backlog. Stop pretending you'll play them all someday if you actually play like 15 games a year. Enjoy collecting and playing whatever, such as RTT GOTM! Side note, it's hard to enjoy Final Fight.
