new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

HD Non-TMSS + Sega CD Model 1 is best Sega Genesis/CD combo at the cost of older Non-TMSS units suffering from minor rainbow banding. 32X for 32X games is fine. Non-TMSS "HD" Gen1 systems have superior audio quality that carries through to the Model 1.

32X on top of a craptier model can also be fine, cleans up the video a bit actually. Removes rainbow banding at the cost of color vibrancy.

Wait, do you need a different cable to connect Genny 1 to the 32x?

I'm looking this up right now. It seems the Model 1 has the best audio (use the headphone jack for stereo) but okay image quality. A 32x will fix that with a better encoder but if you use RGB it's the best quality regardless of console since it's not encoded. Yep time for me to get an RGB setup.

Yeah, but most non-crap 32X offerings have both cables; actually I think it's simply an adapter.

What's good about the Model 1 SCD? I don't like front loading though...feels like that crap will break on you for no reason.

Can someone give me the rundown of Neo Geo AES/MVS vs Neo Geo Cd? I'm getting he CD care of @Lunar . Other than the insane loading, is there significant overlap of games? Also is the visual fidelity that much different?

It makes me feel like a man

Honestly, it's mostly a space thing. The Model 2 takes up too much fudging horizontal space

Random Genesis 2, nice working Sega CD, no 32X. The best combination. I don't need to look up FCC codes or different chips or anything to feel like I have "DA BEST GENESIS".

I feel like Sega CD's are addictive in nature. I went from never owning one. To buying a model 2 to link up with the aforementioned model 1 genesis, to then buying another model 2 genesis combo off of snatcher, then buying a model 1 sega cd with the jvc drive also off snatcher to then buying a cdx.

TLDR: I have a Sega CD problem.

I'm pretty sure you can't combine Genesis 1 with a Sega CD 2 in any manner without it looking wonky. Also while you guys are adding collectible tumors to your Genemonsters, go ahead and slap a Mega CD Karaoke Module on there.

I use a model 1 Genny with a Model 2 Sega CD without an extender and give no effs. I'm such a rogue.

As far as Genesis pricing, it used to be really easy to net a Genesis for free buying lots on CL. Or even just paying like $5 for a Genesis. At one point I actually gave Genesis systems away instead of taking like $5-10 from a game store (they certainly weren't even worth the time/effort to ship) to get rid of them. I kept more than I will ever really need (4) considering they really don't break. Now everyone is an butt-hole that thinks their crap is gold but I still wouldn't pay much for a Genesis. They are extremely common and now that better cables are easy to get it really doesn't matter too much what model you get. Just grab one that doesn't have complete garbage audio.

Also @Defaultgen is right. The 32x is about as useful as the karaoke attachment.

Depends on several factors. If it's a cart just for me to play, I'm about a 3. (I want a label, small tears are okay as long as I can read it.) Disk-based games I'd be closer to a 5- some minor scratches are okay, but nothing deep, and no debalancing stickers. Caseart too, but again, more just needs to be readable.

Now, if I want to sell something, it should be at least a 7. I'll only take lower if it's dirt cheap to acquire, or it's rare and in demand.

I couldn't have paid more than $50 for my entire Genny setup. The 32x was sold as is for cheap and it just happened to work perfectly.

If we are factoring in selling games and such that it came with I paid $0 for my Genesis, $5 for my Sega CD (had a Genny with it that I kept but zero games) and $0 for the 32x. Gotta say $0 is the most I'd want to pay for a 32x.

The 32x lot was kind of lucky. It was actually last year and it was hot out on a Saturday as I was winding down about to head home from garage sales. It was just kind of on the way out of the town I was in and it was all in a box under a table thankfully (who knows what would have happened if it were just out directly in that heat all morning. I don't remember what it was marked at but I talked them down to $5 because as @DiamondDave knows it's all about buttfudging people hard.

Yeah I mean, it does have a nice version of Space Harrier and like DD said it's a very solid home port of Doom. There just isn't really a huge reason to own it, especially not when it typically costs more than a Genesis itself.

How is the 32x version of NBA Jam compared to the Genesis version?

I also like the 32x version of Virtua Racing, it's just that nothing is super compelling. The NBA Jam is NBA Jam. Nothing spectacular compared to any of the other version.

When I made a goal of selling things I sold off too much and regretted it. I ended up rebuying games. I'd say just put it back and don't take anything out until you know you don't want it.

Yeah, I had this problem as well. Thankfully I rebought stuff before the prices went full derp. I do however, not regret selling off LEs of crappy NISA releases that I wasn't going to finish playing.

@DefaultGen @DiamondDave Darius is an awesome series. I wish there was a compilation release of the first two on the Saturn. Right now I just have Darius Gaiden (SS) and Darius Vita, but really that's enough. The Vita game has a TON of depth. I strongly recommend it. If you don't like supporting LRG then def import it from Japan like I did.

It's too hard for me. There's playable shooters and then there's the shooters where you reset if you ever die because you need the power-ups. Darius is the latter. It's okay but I'm rarely in the mood for it

I'm sick of selling games one by one, I'm gonna try bundling for the next few offerings and see if I can get you guys to bite.

Let's start off with this bundle for $225 shipped?

Metal Slug, Strikers I & II should be around $180-$200 . Let me know what you think.

Body Special (Japanese Girls in Bikinis Puzzle game, w/obi)
Slam Dunk
Puyo Puyo Sun (w/obi)
Lunar 2(w/obi and map)
Panzer Dragoon
Sonic Jam
Columns Arcade Collector (w/obi)
Metal Slug
Strikers 1945
Strikers 1945 II (w/obi)

$120 for 240p component. You could get the nicest $40 coax upgraded RGB cable from retro_console_accessories and a cheapy Chinese RGB -> HDMI box and upscale your SNES video for less than that.

Sure I have some top expensive games left like Earthbound, Popful mail, and Panser Dragoon Saga, and some other RPGs. But I already own most of my top games that were on my list a couple years ago. There are two layers of problems.

1. If obtained sealed, I'd want to keep it sealed thus not able to play frown

2. Sealed prices are ridiculous(most of the time).

At this point, I'm not in a position to take in more games to just sit on a shelf.
