new Thread Description
Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.

Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.

Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!

Old Topic Description

This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Keep in mind, swapping signed game parts is a great way to throw out any value it might have, as someone interested in this would likely want it the way it was, even if it's a little rough.

If I found worth in it as a signed game I'd probably just put it in a protective case and call it good, or just play it. Not sure trying to make it prettier's the way to go, as it'll be pretty obvious that it's not the same package it was.

I have been ripping my Wii and GC games using USB Loader GX to my new Wii. I feel like I am missing something. I can get all my Wii games to work but my GC games won't start up. I am going to try and redownload Nintendont tonight and see if that fixes it. USB Loader GX has a really slick interface.

It's probably how you have your file structure set up on your hard drive or USB stick. Older versions of USB loader gx could only read wii file system format. Newer versions should be able to read fat32. PM me if you want.

I start tomorrow. Just finished Octopath Traveler, plan to do the optional dungeon tonight, and start RE2 tomorrow.

Might play RE2 a couple times this month. Do the ol' switcheroo and after I finish it standard I'll do Claire as disc 1 instead.

Apparently they made Bomberman 64 and Trap Gunner which I thought were developed by Hudson and Atlus, so I'm on board with this.

Yeah, I found out they developed Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land (AMAZING GAME BTW) and decided to look into the rest of their work. They apparently co-developed ASH with Mistwalker too. What a great company no one has heard of.

I missed the Snowboard Kids hype train. People always wanted to play back in the day and I just wanted to get back to Goldeneye and Smash Bros. I didn't get into snowboarding until SSX.

Amped 2 snowboarding on OG Xbox is my favorite. Y'all should check it out.
That game has great controls and the challenges towards the end seem impossible to complete.

It's one of the few N64 games I actually enjoyed later. N64 was the first system I actually owned as a kid, and had like 30 CIB games for. I don't feel compelled to have an N64 collection for nostalgia now, obviously.

Yeah, in 1080 it's kind of like a combo system where you can to hold down more buttons as you continue rotating the stick. If you just rotate the stick twice you do two 360s, but it doesn't count as a 720. It's weird. Also penguins, can't you surf on a penguin in 1080? I think that's the best board you can get.

It's fine. Diagonals are a bit off but that's fixable with some electrical tape if it bothers you too much, I don't think most people would notice

The SF controllers might be different than the other SN30 pads, my issue was more than once I'd press up or down and it'd be going diagonal instead.

Really after SSX 3, the snowboarding genre died. I mean no one seems to care enough to make an awesome snowboarding game with awesome physics. Snow boarding down a mountain doesn't count. Where are the man made trick tracks, or the amazing locals of 1080 or SSX?

I did not 100% it. This game was very frustrating for all the wrong reasons. I found several levels just plain painful to do simple things like jump. The levels in the clouds where particularly painful.

Several levels you must get all boxes without dieing for a gem. I could barley get through them with the continues so I just focuses on completing the game.

Well yeah each level has to be passed without dying and while also breaking every box. I haven't been working on it everyday or anything but I have 11 gems or something like that.

I crushed this game but won't consider it finished until I beat the optional post-game content.

As a tip for character development,

Cyrus is your best character. He should be pampered so you can end every single battle in 1 turn, 3 turns for bosses.

f you have alfyn you missed the early golden axe, but ya it'll be fine just an extra couple hits to kill stuff, but dang is she a boss destroyer with that thing through the early to mid game.

another good tip is you can level a secondary job and you keep the extra skills even if you don't have that job equipped (the skills you equip in that second skills menu)

money is a little scarce early as well, but after chapter 2's you'll never be able to spend it all.

I have a MAME cabinet that I only ever turn on when I hear about some cool game I've never heard of. I had a bunch of 90s arcade games that I got rid of because 90s arcade games have no replay value and I was dumb for ever buying them.

ya octo is really good, but after 100+ hours of both DQ is def better, but it def makes it easier to wait when you have something else stellar to play, you aren't losing with either game. I'm playing NNKII now and it's alright, not great but decent. What keeps me going is the beautiful art style. And the sidequests are pointless but building the kingdom is fun.
