America's Test Kitchen is an interactive cookbook that will walk you through the steps of 300 new recipes. It's designed in a way to get the whole family cooking together.
Building off the success of Personal Trainer: Cooking on the DS, America's Test Kitchen is designed to be a cooking tool the whole family can use. Each member of the household can create a profile and recipe steps can be divided among several people. The software notes each person's age and does a good job of assigning appropriate jobs to each person, so you won't see it, for instance, assign chopping to a five-year old. Once you've selected a recipe you have two options for navigation: touch screen or voice command. A chef's voice will speak each step to you and the speed of his reading can be adjusted in the Settings menu. While preparing a recipe you'll encounter helpful tips and tutorial videos that will go into more detail for a particular step.
Three hundred North American dishes are on offer, sorted into categories like appetizers, salads, and fish. You can search by ingredients, or by certain requirements like difficulty or calories. The software will also pay attention to your Nintendo DS' calendar and recommend suitable recipes for holidays like Easter and your birthday. For some reason, the graphics are a little worse when using the game on a 3DS XL, but despite that small complaint, America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking is a great tool for aspiring home chefs, especially those that want to make cooking a family affair.
