Summary

A Tetris clone involving hats! Just what we all needed.

Description

Hatris is a simple Tetris clone in which, instead of making rows of blocks, you have to make stacks of hats which fall from the top of the screen.

The game starts out slow, with a small selection of hats, and slowly increases in speed and variety of hats, and thus increasing in difficulty. Two hats fall in side-by-side formation and must be placed at the bottom of the screen. You can switch the hats around so they fall on opposite sides, but the hats cannot be switched vertically. Once you stack 5 hats of the same type vertically, they disappear.

The game is awful. For starters, this game pales in comparison to Tetris. Gameplay is dull and difficulty is low at first, and grows VERY little and VERY slowly. Although you can change modes and start on higher difficulties, the gameplay stays just as dull.

The music and sound effects (of which there are very little) are horrendous. I definitely recommend muting your Game Boy for this one.

On the graphical side, again, there is not a whole lot here. Simple graphics for your hats, and not much more to look at. I don't even think it is a Game Boy problem here, as the other version of Hatris (on NES for example) aren't works of art either.

Overall, this is a sad take-off of Tetris that will leave even puzzle fans unsatisfied. I definitely do not recommend.
