Description

Do you love the classic Bond/007 films featuring Sean Connery? If so, you'll love the setting that From Russia With Love offers. Being the world's greatest Double O agent means traveling to exotic locales, battling dangerous villians and saving beautiful women. All in a day's work for Bond. This 007 adventure is on the verge of being placed on the "wouldn't suggest to buy" list...but it cuts it close with a B- . To better your opinion on this title, I am going to categorize this review by gameplay, sound, graphics, and replay value.

Gameplay:

If you have played any other Bond games (probably for a major console) then you know the so-so single player gameplay and the great multiplayer. The gameplay is on the lesser side of so-so and the multiplayer needs work. It should sound great having Wi-Fi online play and utilizing the jetpack well in that aspect. The gameplay has a pretty exciting option where you can run up to an enemy and the shape of a button will appear on screen. You then quickly (in probably a second) must tap the button and Connery performs a pretty cool melee move. The bad thing is Bond only has four moves to perform, one for each button, so eventually it becomes a routine to see the same fighting over, and over and over again. You are supplied with a few cool gadgets including the laser watch, Q-Dart, Q-copter, and the serum gun. The Q-Copter is pretty cool because you can fly it places and then detonate whenever you feel the need to. One of my favorite aspects for the gameplay is that you can upgrade your weapons. For example you could upgrade your pistol to make it hold more rounds, or maybe increase the accuracy. In my opinion, the biggest flaw in the game is located in the gameplay...because of the camera system. Sometimes it feels as if the system is working against you instead of with you. You must manually change the view using the square and circle buttons which are very easy to confuse. The aspect I was most afraid of when I bought the game was the camera angles. It is very easy to say that this could be the reason this game was never a hit.

Sound:

The sound is what you'd expect from a PSP shoot-em-up title. Never too amazing, yet just satisfying. The two speakers make enemies from the left have their gunshots fire from the left, and enemies from the right have their gunshots heard from the right. The sound is not too astonishing, yet just enough.

Graphics:

As you can see from the images to the left, the graphics are alright. But they do not come anywhere close to GTA:LCS. I would say they are an ounce better than one of the best DS games out there. I'm not saying the graphics will divert your attention from the gameplay, yet they won't wow you either.

Replay Value:

Once you have completed the story mode in all the difficulty levels, it is very easy to say that all that is left for you is the multi-player. If you do not have any way to access Wi-Fi, the game has little to no replay value, yet if you do, it may still not have the greatest replay value, yet the multi-player is sure fun to fly around in a jetpack shooting your friends or strangers.

Overall I would say From Russia With Love is a so-so title, but deserving of a B- . If you have enough money for other great PSP titles, go for them, and put FRWL at the lower end of the list.
