Spy Muppets: License to Croak (Game Boy Advance)

Summary

Shorter than an episode of Muppet Babies.

Description

Opening Introduction:
When you first start playing Spy Muppets, you are entered into a James Bond world overrun with Muppet-ness. You are the charming Agent Kermit the Frog and it is your duty to put a stop to the evil forces that have plotted against a non-descript land. You'll have your pick of three villains to stop, including SHELL (Secret Hidden Evil League of Lobsters), Piggy Galore, and Dr. Nose. Each level has its own spin, but the gameplay idea is the same: chase them down, get beyond the goons, defeat the boss.

The Meat:
In playing this game, you'll notice the same things loop over and over to various degrees. You will be given the opportunity to do a quick matching test to build your transportation (clearly meant for 5 year olds), then make your way to the enemy HQ without destroying your boat, car, or snowmobile. Upon entering the enemy HQ, you'll have to get past the henchmen (lobsters, pigs, or chickens), then defeat the main villain (Piggy Galore, Dr. Nose, or King Prawn). If you do actually lose to the boss, you'll be entered into a mini-game to get yourself back into action, which is a nice little addition.

Imagining an 8 year old playing this game, it may seem fun and even surprising... but to any average adult, it's just plain simple. In the game's defense, the NTSC version does support six languages. Also, it does feature some pretty graphics (character models specifically), decent sound, and easy-to-use controls. The hint of a story is somewhat fun, and the character dialogue is probably the most enjoyable part of the entire experience. However, in the end, I just cannot get beyond the fact that this is the shortest portable game I've ever played!

Final Words:
Spy Muppets: A License to Croak is a good game for your young child, but any adult wouldn't find much to enjoy in this rare little Muppet Adventure. I will suggest you obtain this game for the kids, but don't expect even them to be playing this for long.
