Hearing a lot of complaints about the flower voices? Ive left it on default and I think they are great. They add to the silliness and I do not find them annoying at all. For comparison the endless "bah, bah" from the NEW series was extremely annoying haha

Just beat Bowser. Still need to finish the Special World and some other stuff. Going to start Red Dead Redemption now, but will come back to Wonder. Liked it more than any NSMB game I've played and most 3D Mario games as well. It's definitely one of my favorite Mario titles now. Don't know why they couldn't put a boss at the end of every world though. (And not just Bowser Jr. all the time.)

I too beat it. I haven't one shotted so many levels in a Mario game since Mario is Missing. Only died on two levels in the last area (only because I didn't know what was going on), and one shotted the final only (so far) 'five star difficulty' level with no issues. The game is ridiculously easy with the majority of deaths coming from distraction or wtf was that(?). The player is OP as heck. The game oozed charm, and graphically was the best Mario to date without question. I absolutely loved the music areas. Felt like an ode to Rayman. While I didn't enjoy the journey to end game as much as the first 4 or NSMBU, I did enjoy it. At the start of the final boss battle all I could think of was when is the Metallica guitar riff coming in (very cool). I hope they can find the balance between old and new in the next installment as there was a lot of goodness there. This game felt like it was made by people who love the series, and not just a business decision. For that it was a great success. Definitely going to replay levels to see what I missed and collect more badges. Damn the loot box standees though. I have less than 30 and my last 5 have been doubles.

There's a shop in the special world that will always give you a standee you don't already have. They are 30 coins instead of 10.

The actual final level is the real (and pretty much only) challenge in the game, just like Super Mario 3D World. Those devs that were hyping up the difficulty in interviews before the release, idk what they were smoking. there's no way anyone that has worked on the Mario games since the 80s should be struggling at all with SMB Wonder. Still an awesome game though, and my favorite of the 2D ones. I'm really glad they didn't lock 100% completion behind making you complete the game with every character like they did in SM3DW. I felt like that was a cheap way to artificially extend the game's length.

I haven't played as much as I would like because I've been very busy. So far, it's very easy. The only time I have died is when I miss something and then die on purpose so I can go back. I turned the flower voices off IMMEDIATELY. They annoy the crap out of me. I also thought the same thing about the wonder seeds as someone else mentioned...I feel like we're losing the regular level. If you go back and play them without activating the wonder seed, most levels are very boring.

Something to keep in mind with difficulty...most of us have been playing Mario games (and other 2D platformers) for 30+ years now, and we've gotten pretty darn good at them. Do any of y'all go back and re-play older Mario games often like I do? I don't know about the rest of you, but I breeze through all of them now. I could 100% SMB3 and SMW right now and die like 1-2 times max. It wasn't like that when I was a kid though, I died in those games...a lot. Newer Mario games may be easier, but not by much. We're just really good at these kinds of games now. It does help that they've perfected the controls. A lot of the difficulty with SMB1 came from the crappy controls. SMB3 and SMW weren't perfect either and still had some minor issues. Also, newer abilities like the wall jump and the mid-air twirl thing, can help save you from a deadly situation.

So yeah, it would be nice to have a harder Mario game, but it would make the game inaccessible to young/newer players. One of the things I love about Mario Maker is that people can make some truly challenging levels there. Not the BS enemy spam type levels. I'm talking about levels with platforming that is legitimately hard. I love playing those types of levels! I'm fine with Mario Maker being my source of challenging Mario levels, and the regular Mario games made by Nintendo are a more casual, chill experience for everyone.

They need to fix the input lag. When comparisons are done between PC, PS4, and Switch for classic games, the Switch almost always has the most lag.

What? Where is this coming from? I haven't noticed any lag that impacted my play. If I can no death run Contra on joycons the lag is fine.

I read online that Mario Wonder gives green check marks if you have fully completed a level. I must be missing something because I don't have any yet, although I know I have 100% on some levels. Do they show up after you beat the game or something?

On a few levels, I have all wonder seeds, all purple 10 coins, all secret exits, and top of the flagpole. What am I missing?

Are you sure you're looking in the right place for it? It's kind of in the background of the screen that shows if you got all of the purple coins and the flagpole. Usually, if you seem to have everything but still don't have the check, the most likely culprit is a missing secret exit.

It's not terrible, but it's pretty consistently worse than other modern platforms, let alone originals on a CRT. Here is one source:

I noticed input lag on Sega Genesis Classics and the Mega Man X Collection. About the only times it was noticeable for me. It's never been a problem with the Psikyo games, but I also didn't play the original versions.

What is the "actual final level"? I beat the game, but I don't see any more levels. I was expecting a champion's road or star world.

@KCPenguins There’s a “Special World” in there with more difficult levels. It’s got multiple entrances, similar to Super Mario World.

It's called The Final-Final Test Badge Marathon, it's unlocked by finding all of the Wonder Seeds and purple coins in all levels.

Thanks! I was debating doing that anyways, so now I have some motivation. I was worried the I had one shotted the "hardest" level. Glad that's not the case.

So there is the special world with more difficult levels AND extra levels when you get all the wonder seeds and purple coins? Nice!

To everyone calling this the greatest 2D Mario since SMW, I'm going to have to disagree. I know 3D Works is technically 3D, but I prefer that so much more to this. Even comparing it to NSMBU, I think I prefer U. Yes, this is much more varied, and I appreciate the creativity, but I'm very underwhelmed so far. It's all just a little too simple for me.

I know what to avoid. I avoid every channel that relies heavily on YouTube face for views. There are plenty of great content creators out there who don't.

And when it comes to video game related content there are usually dozens of other channels doing the exact same thing. Very few gaming youtubers have a truly unique brand identity because success tends to breed copycats. (Just look at all the people who play bad games and want to be AVGN for example.)

I don't even mind them putting their face on the thumbnail. But they can do it without extreme face contorting ridiculousness.

I was really looking forward to this game, but I had something come up a day or two before release, and I haven't been able to pick it up. That said I have watched a decent amount of the game, and now I feel a little underwhelmed. The level design looks extremely varied, but otherwise looks a bit bland; most of the level gimmicks come off as fun, but I think most of the platforming in the levels feel secondary to the gimmicks, and I noticed a lot of empty space without enemies or hazards in the levels.

Of course I may feel differently once I play the game, but I'm definitely less interested than I was. Also, just to be clear I'm not saying I think the game looks bad, I just don't think the game looks as great as I expected it to.

Personally Wonder is a fantastic game that is just fun to play. It's the first Mario game that my son and I have been able to play co-op without there being too much hassle. We stick to the 2 star or lower difficulty levels for now, but I've enjoyed replaying levels and reexperiencing things and looking for things that we didn't see last time.

If you're playing it solo, I'm sure the experience is much different. The great thing about Wonder is that they added something new for people to enjoy that will hopefully open up Mario to new experiences for decades to come.

My kids have come back around to it and are enjoying it. Going back to unlock the special world shows much of the issues which I and others have stated. I plan on getting all 10 coins, wonder seeds, top of the flag poles and secret exits. Nuts to the standees, I haven't used 1 yet.

As I stated it's a great start to a new 2d Mario. It took the "New" series 4 games to get 1 that held up to the original 4 imo.

I like SM3DW better than Wonder too, but like you said, that one is 3D. I was only comparing Wonder to the other 2D Mario games. NSMBU was very solid, but what holds it back in my mind is how similar it was to the 3 games preceding it. They're all so similar, it just felt like the same thing over and over but with new power-ups and levels. Wonder actually tries a bunch of new things and just feels very unique compared to the NSMB games.

I like SM3DL better, but that's because at that time, the 3D effect was so impressive and well done. Looking back at it, it still has incredible level design and fun quick levels. 3D world was a step down IMO.

3D World is one of my favorite Mario games. I know it isn't very creative, but I also highly enjoyed NSMBU, and thought it was quite a bit better than any of the other NSMB games.
