What do you like to snack on?

Could be while you play videogames, while you're driving, working, whenever.

Have not had that brand. I’ll look out for it.

Yeah they're fairly new. They had Cookies and Cream Twix for a while and they were amazing, but apparently they were just a limited time thing, because they suddenly disappeared from stores and the cookie dough variety took their place. I preferred cookies and cream, but cookie dough is almost as good.

Keep in mind there's two varieties: plantains, and sweet plantains.

I haven't had the regular plantains. It's the sweet plantains that reminds me of banana chips. Not as super crunchy, but had that mild sweetness. Not the same as banana but, well, it's not banana.

Will have to pay attention for it. Is it just flavored like cookie dough, or did they actually add a gooey cookie dough-like layer?

The inside part is cookie dough flavored.

I don't know if this is considered a snack, but I tried natto the other day.

It's fermented soy beans. Supposedly very popular in Japan and eaten daily by many people. Here's the kanji of it, cause why not: 納豆

Somehow, the strain of bacteria that's used to ferment soybeans results in stringiness on the surface of the soybeans. And if you stir it, the stringiness increases! Yeah, seriously.

It smells pretty strong and tastes kind of nuttyish. First I tasted it plain and then added salt and pepper.

Anyone else tried natto? What about other funky foods?

Jesus christ! $3/Oz for jerky? My price point is $1/Oz, looking at you Old Trapper, Jack Link's. I make jerky for about $.50/Oz. Making it on a pellet smoker without liquid smoke is heaven.

I've been really into overnight oats for breakfast the past few months.

In a small Tupperware, mix plain Oats with chia seeds and stir up. Pour in enough skim milk to get a layer over the oats. Put cut up strawberries and blueberries on top. Put plain vanilla yogurt on top (I use Triple Zero). Put in the fridge overnight and mix. I sometimes sprinkle in some ground cinnamon as well.

They taste really good and should be pretty good nutritionally as well. I am still learning about what foods should be purchased organic and which can just be normal. I get organic strawberries, blueberries, and Chia seeds. However I know for some foods organic is a scam, such as for bananas and avocados.

What's the texture of the overnight oats like? It probably doesn't get thick like regular oatmeal does, right?

It does get fairly thick overnight. Oatmeal is tasty. Oats and strawberries does actually sound pretty good.

I also like Greek yogurt and fruit. Made lemon tofu pudding stuff the other day (1/2 cup agave nectar, 1 block tofu, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 2 tbsp lemon zest, purée in blender). It was pretty good.

Pickles, tomatoes, olives, and cottage cheese are also some of my favorites. I was kind of a weird kid.

@sailorneorune that lemon tofu pudding sounds interesting. I want to make it. Is it your own recipe? When you say 1 tofu block, do you mean one package? (The tofu I see in stores here is 1 large rectangular block)

We actually borrowed it from the Martha Stewart website and tweaked it a bit because agave nectar is a little less of a pain in the butt to work with than honey in dessert recipes. And yep, one package of tofu.

Corrected recipe:
1 package tofu (drained)
1/2 cup agave nectar
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tsp lemon zest

Purée in blender until desired consistency.
Put in bowl(s).
Apply your choice of blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries after it’s done.

@nonamesleft - I wish the store close to me sold those ones. Those would probably be my favorites. The only ones they carry are the smores and the cinnamon ones. The cinnamon ones are pretty good. Much better than the smores ones.

The cinnamon one sounds good. Smores flavored items, in general, I find to sound way more exciting than they turn out to be.

I've also seen a peppermint flavor of this snack and birthday cake.

Something doesnt add up with those. The front says they contain Chia, Quina, and Flax (some of the foods with the most fiber) yet the nutritional label says they contain 0% fiber. That doesn't make any sense.

Nice catch! Hmmm, strange. I'm contacting them. I'm just curious at this point. Will let you know what they respond.

There is apparently a recall on Catalina cereal
https://www.foodsafetynews.com/2023/03/more-than-3...

The recall was issued Feb 16 so why am I only now just finding out about it? Bummer.

Though, I ate some and didn't get sick or anything so maybe I shouldn't worry about it.

@sa330206 No reply from the company about the 0% fiber in the snack. Maybe they're puzzled about it themselves? :)

Long ago I actually emailed Popcorners asking why there were purple spots on their cinnamon whole grain chips. They emailed me back explaining that it's expected.

edit: I still have the email lolwtf. June 18 2013 I emailed them. June 23 2013 they replied back.

During those years, did you continue eating the cinnamon chips?

I got tired of those chips within days because it felt like I was just eating cereal without milk. That's basically what it was, albeit clumped together in a way that resembles chips.

P.s. I only just noticed I made a typo, I wrote 2018 instead on 2013 for the second one. They took five days to reply, not five years. :P

I tried jackruit today for the first time. I enjoyed it. Was very refreshing. I'd describe it as a crisp melon like texture, and kind of tastes like a mango.

I've recently discovered microwavable pork rinds. Pretty darn good! They have them at my Kroger grocery store, right there with the microwavable popcorn.

Why are they microwavable? Are they somewhat uncooked?

I was thinking the same thing. Aren't pork rinds like a dry, fluffy thing these days -- like chips almost, I guess? I don't know how to describe it, but I never think of them as something you'd heat?

Lettuce is a surprisingly good and refreshing snack. Sit outside with a bag of lettuce and a drink, listen to music or a podcast. Look at the trees.

Sadly, the biggest tree here lost a lot of it a few years ago in a storm or something. Gigantic and green and just great. Now there's a huge open space where that section of the tree used to be. Now I get a view of a bunch of houses and much less🌲.

They are uncooked. It's like these little squares that puff up once you pop them in the microwave.

That's so interesting. I wonder why they make them, as opposed to simply a bag that one opens and eats. How would you compare them?

Yeah, I've only seen them "already puffed", I guess. Just like chips in a bag.
