This scam was new to me and I initially fell for it. Someone messaged me on Facebook Marketplace about an item I had for sale. They said they wanted to buy it and asked for my cell number so they could text me. After I gave it to them, they said they were wary of doing business on FM and were going to send a Google Verification Number that I would have to provide them. I got the code on my cell and sent it to them. Almost as soon as I did it, I got a bad feeling about what was happening. I opened another window and did a quick search for Google Voice. The first several autofill suggestions included "scam". Fortunately, something was wrong in the first series and they sent another request for a verification number. I responded "no, I know this is a scam". I followed the instructions to get my phone number back and then followed the link in the scam page to report the attempt to the FTC. LIkely nothing will come of it because all I had was a fake name. I tried to report the Buyer to Marketplace, but despite their instructions for reporting a scam, I never could find the link to "Report Buyer". I looked at their account and was only a name and a single stock couple picture. I could not find it later, so I guess they deleted it.
