Surprised we don't have anything going on this topic. See if it goes anywhere, but I came here to ask for support on the Oculus/Quest.

Family got me a Quest 2 for my bday. I've been holding out for the next release and/or PSVR2, but eh, I'll take it!

Suggestions for best games to play on it?

I picked up a few accessories too:
- Strap with Battery and Carrying Case - https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo...
- Fat Sweaty Man Visor - https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo...

Any others I should be looking at?

Thanks!

Just goes to show you how terrible "journalism" is these days.

I fought the sales forecasts seemed very optimistic with the price point and niche tech. I’m still not sure I’ll actually keep my order.

superb journalism there by IGN lol

Honestly, I wouldn't count this out as being a purposeful rumor to get the PSVR2 into the news and spin up interest. Although it makes it sound like preorder numbers weren't great, it also alludes to a stronger sense of scarcity. "There's only going to be 1M units, I better preorder mine now".

Personally I don't see enough at launch that I'm interested in for $600 (incl. tax) so I'm going to wait.

It's too pricey for me considering I find VR still to be a novelty. I would consider it after the first price cut potentially.

Anyone planning on the new Oculus? My v2 has collected dust for so long. Would love to revisit at some point.

Seems like this is a pretty substantial upgrade.

I've come to accept the fact that owning a VR headset when your kids aren't old enough to play it and the house can't be setup to prioritize it is a waste of money. It's like buying a $500 console to play one game for a weekend and then let it sit for years. I ended up selling my PSVR a couple years back. I'll check back in to see what the state of VR is in about 7-10 years

Hopefully there will be some more insight into the labeling for children. Nothing solid on that. Aside from that- even if you were okay with your kids using it- it won’t fit. Pediatric groups are quick to say “no” as a CYA- this may be a case of that.

I find that I'm either all in and want to play VR every day after work, or it sits in its box for weeks or months at a time. I keep saying I like to dabble every now and then but I don't really. I'll be into a new game for a couple days, likely beat it since many are short, play a couple songs of Synth Riders since the headset is already on, and then head back to my console for the next few months.

Same, it comes in waves for me, although Quest 2 kinda changed that because it’s zero setup, zero ‘friction’ (compared to psvr), pop it on and you’re in
But other than Eleven Table Tennis (the greatest thing ever) which I play almost daily, other games I play in spurts and then don’t touch anything for a while
Still need to man up and start RE4 (the quest 2 version) lol

Anyone playing with Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision?

They're both looking sweet but still not motivated to buy. My quest 2 has gotten so little use, I should just sell it.

Apple Vision doesn’t really seem like it’s meant for gaming, and I’m not fully convinced of the use cases for non-gaming VR… and the price is just absurd

Quest 3 i’m softly considering but not sure the jump is big enough, might be worth skipping this gen and waiting for Quest 4

My questing 2 as always is getting 99% Eleven table tennis love and 1% everything else

I've had the Quest 3 for about a month now. Originally I had a Vive, then I upgraded to the Valve Index. I sold the Vive and the Index and purchased the Quest 3.

The Quest 3 is a gigantic upgrade to the Index in just about every way. I use it daily.

I do a workout in Supernatural VR every single day, then generally play some other games as well. My WiFi network is robust enough that I can stream my PCVR games from my desktop wirelessly to my Quest 3, so I have access to my entire Steam VR library as well as the Meta Library.

Yeah I loved my index but the wire and setup kills it for me. Quest 3 is amazing and even better with a solid wireless connection to my PC if I want.

I really hope psvr2 makes a wireless accessory at some point.

@Shane12m In hindsight it's obvious, but when I was using the Index regularly I did not think about how annoying the setup was. Now that I have the quest I simply put the headset on and i'm in VR. It's so easy to just hop in for 20 minutes, do a quick workout, then go about my day.

Someone ELI5. How many freakin' VR headsets are there on PC? And if I buy one can I just expect all VR games will be compatible with it, or do certain games only work on certain headsets?

@PizzaTheHutt There are lots of different PCVR headsets. All the PCVR headsets have access to the same games, but they might be spread across different storefronts. So I have most of my PCVR games on steam with a few on the Oculus store. For PCVR, headsets are essentially just monitors as all the computations are running on the PC.

The most popular headsets out now are the Meta Quest headsets. Those are more like a console, in that the games run directly on the headset and do not need a PC at all. However, if you have a PC, you can play PCVR games on the meta quest headsets by running a cable from PC to the headset or casting the game from your PC wirelessly to the headset. There are games that release exclusively on the Meta Quest store that you can't play on the PC VR headsets, so the Meta Quest 3 is the one system that allows you to access everything (except for the PSVR stuff which is it's own closed ecosystem)

I recommend the Meta Quest 3 as it's relatively inexpensive, can go anywhere, and is super easy to use and setup. However, Meta is owned by Facebook, so if you hate Facebook then you are kind of out of luck.

This is the perfect summary! I would agree that the Quest 3 is the best headset to get right now hands down.

Wish they had a trade in/up program.

I have a very mint, with tons of accessories, all boxes, looks brand new, quest 2 that I should probably sell.

From what I've seen the quest 2 is still perfectly adequate, especially if you are using it more for PCVR. The lenses are better and the passthrough is way better on the 3 but if you have a PC and want to play Half Life Alyx or something like that then the quest 2 should still provide a great experience.

From Sony:
Also, we’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5. We hope to make this support available in 2024, so stay tuned for more updates.

What would that mean exactly, would you still require a PC (kinda like quest with the airlink or whatever it’s called) or would it act as the PC itself and just allow access to games over eg Steam or something?
