Ouch, I had a feeling it would be at least $500.

Considering many are still struggling to get the $500 console, which is required to use the VR2, I don't see this selling as well as Sony hopes.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in it, but I absolutely won't be an early adopter. I just picked up a Meta Quest 2 a few months back, and plan to play that for a while.

Does anyone know if Sony confirmed backwards compatibility with the older PSVR games? I would assume they work, but wouldn't be surprised to see Sony strip it of backwards compatibility.

So far the Horizon game is what has me most intrigued.

It’s not backwards compatible, but that doesn’t bother me. I’m just going to keep my PSVR too.

I think $549.99 is pretty reasonable for the specs. Current VR headsets that match or exceed this are $1000+. When the PSVR launched, it cost $50 more than the PS4 (just like how this is $50 more than the PS5). (PSVR was $399.99 vs $349.99 at that point for the PS4). This is a day one purchase for me if I can get it. I’ve had money saved up specifically for it for years.

Looks like they’re only available via direct.playstation.com, you have to register and be selected (criteria unknown), and it’s one PSVR2 per Sony ID. Nice pushback against bots, but now I’m legit concerned that I won’t be able to get one.

Oof, I didn't expect it to be cheap, but at that price I'm very likely not getting one at launch.
An announcement of an Astro Bot sequel might have helped to convince me I need this day one though. How did they not think to have a sequel ready for launch?

The games aren't currently compatible but word is that many will be patched to work. Either way I'm registered and excited for this.

PS4 VR always makes me nauseous, I think due to the blur effect when moving (ex: Farpoint was really bad). Does newer VR technology reduce the blurring/nauseating effect?

So I guess I am screwed when it comes to pre ordering.

Sony did say they plan to have 2 million of these ready to go in time for launch, so hopefully it won't be that hard to find for the people that really want one. I think scalpers might back off a bit because it's still a niche thing anyway and no guarantee they'll be able to resell it.

Yeah, I agree. I just want to make sure. Sony is going to pump the market full of PS5s this holiday season. GameStop even has some reasonable bundles you can get same with the Source (Canada thing) it's not nearly as hard to get one now.

PS5 is in stock (not Canada) on PS Dierct right now - MW2 Bundle. They're easier to get online but I still have yet to see one in a store to buy.

I think $550 is a fair price when you compare it to other VR headsets and the current state of PS5/XSX pricing. It's still a niche item but for those that like VR it's going to be great. I'm definitely interested but am going to wait until there is a larger game library for it.

I need to see the official list of launch games. I am excited and interested. However, I have spent plenty on a combination of PS1, PS2, Wii, and 3DS games. So I'm not in dire need of new entertainment to buy.

So I just watched a recent PSVR2 video and saw that the Rush of Blood developers basically released a spiritual successor call The Dark Pictures Switchback VR. Guess I'm on board day one now! Lol, since I really did love that game. It's like a haunted house mine cart ride.

I will be able to pre-order on the 15th. Time to sell my Series X.

Why does this need the single USB-C cable when all the others PC VRs are wireless?

You can generally get better image quality (and sometimes latency) wired than wireless. Even the wireless PCVR options can go wired into a PC for these reasons.

The devs for Zenith: The Last City, The Light Brigade, and Pistol Whip have said that if you have the PSVR version, you can get the PSVR2 one for free. I bet there will be more. (Possibly After the Fall.)

With how much this is going to cost, I really hope we start getting VR games that last more than an hour or two as well. that's one of my biggest complaints with PSVR is how short so many of the games are, they shouldn't be charging $20-$30 for games that you beat in one session.
Stuff like Resident Evil 7, Skyrim VR and Borderlands 2 VR were far too uncommon on the original PSVR and would even be missing features (Borderlands is best played multiplayer but in VR it was only single player). Give us more full-blown AAA games with VR modes.

I agree. There are some good longer games coming soonish though. The new Horizon game has a story and is (I heard) something like 7-12 hours long. We’re also getting Resident Evil 4 Remake and RE: Village in VR. Also, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners 2.

I got an e-mail. It went to my spam folder though, so you might want to check that. Once you get the e-mail, you can click on the personalized link to log-in and submit your pre-order. It puts you in a queue and then tells you when it's your turn. My queue was initially an hour, but then it updated after a few minutes and let me in.

Do you guys think there's a chance of Sony making previous VR titles backward compatible? The small library of PSVR games I've already collected would definitely incentivize getting the new one.

Some titles are getting free PSVR2 upgrades (After the Fall, No Man's Sky) at launch.

I think Gex actually originated on the 3DO didn't it? THEN it was ported to PS1. I mean it's ok with Dana Gould's quips but it's not a very fun 2D platformer. the two 3D platformers are my jam though.

So what games you all getting at launch? Horizon is a no brainer but I like the look and style of Tentacular. Cosmonious High is from the vacation sim people so definitely getting that as well.

Very likely not getting one at launch, but if I were, Horizon and the Rush of Blood sequel would be bought alongside it for sure. I haven't looked at what else is available at launch.

Next batch of PSVR 2 invites going out early December. I just registered on the PlayStation Direct site. I definitely don’t need this and I’m not sure I even want it, but I’ll probably get it and have it sit in the corner and gather dust like the first PSVR.

I got the barebones model I think I just have an OCD or pet peeve about wanting a "base model" and not one tied to a game, since I keep all my system boxes. I can spend that $50 on the horror minecart VR game any way.

I was late to the game with PSVR1 and finally got a v2 model in December 2021. I went in pretty hard and bought/traded for 20 games and played 18 of them within the last 12 months. Yeah I'm waiting for a bigger PSVR2 library too. I have way too many unplayed original PSVR games to keep me busy until then, including a couple I just bought last week. I'd be lying if I said I'm not at least a little tempted to just pre-order it just for the sake of pre-ordering it, but that'd just be dumb...even though I'm no stranger to doing dumb things.

I hope they make Rush of Blood compatible. But I think with Horizon, Switchback VR, and No Man's Sky I'm going to have tons of fun with PSVR2. it's higher res, I think they increased the field of view slightly, and it's got all sorts of neat stuff like finger tracking, better motion tracking, haptic feedback on the controllers and helmet. So it's gonna be fun!

One thing I thought about the haptic feedback in the headset. It will be perfect for making you feel that soft trickle of rain on your forehead.

(I know, ho hum, Eric is talking about physical again) but I hope Horizon and Switchback VR have physical releases. I'd like to start a little VR section on my shelf.

I prefer physical for everything too, but VR is the one exception for me, because 1) it's more annoying having to switch discs when there's a headset involved (as small an issue as that is) and 2) there are a lot of VR games that never get a physical version or are much cheaper digital.
