Currently has a May 12 2023 release date. That's just over 4 months away. That's not so far, but there isn't that much known about it.

Here's a video that has the reveal trailer and other info that has so far been released.

https://youtu.be/30DPu43_Uko

Is it unusual for such an anticipated title that's only several months away to not have much known about it?

I don't usually follow games along their pre-release stages, so perhaps a lack of info is standard.

Personally, I'd rather a lack of info when it comes to games that I plan on playing. I don't care for spoilers, or to watch every trailer that comes out.

I'd have thought there'd be more out about it though. But again, I don't usually follow along with the progress of game development.

Definitely a game I'm looking forward to though.

Naw, fudge that crap. Last "new" game I ordered from them was open, had a GS sticker on it and arrived damaged. Their CS said "yeah the game is new and arrived like that for theft protection". LOL

Only when it ships, like Amazon.

Also, @theJaw - see the other thread in Hot Deals. You can spend $100 on the two vouchers and save money.

You can buy $100 in credit from pathlesscookies (or Costco) for $90, and redeem for Zelda @ $70 + another $60 game (like Pikmin 4) = saves money -- if of course you're good with digital.

I'll pick up TotK on digital to play and collect a physical.

I'd be fine with a huge game like this costing $70 if other smaller games (or relatively easy ports) had lower prices. But nooooooo

lol that's trash, but I'm taking my chances here. As long as the game plays, I can find replacement stuff if I need to later on down the line.

@MrBean Thanks for the help pal. I ended up just risking the pre-order at GameStop after all. Appreciate the link, let's hope they don't pull any tomfoolery with the pricing.

Yah I mean, there are only a couple BIG games I get each year anyhow... so if most games stayed at $60 or less, I could put up with it and just wait for cheaper deals on the big ones. That's why I'm happy Pikmin 4 is still gonna be $60 when it drops, but the coming years look bleak as far as pricing goes haha

The game vouchers is now tempting. $130 vs $90...

I'll risk it and wait though... need more info on TotK to preorder. Worst that happens is I pay $70 for what is now a $70 game.

The CE is kinda ... disappointing, especially compared to BotW.

Still salty I missed the first round, was gone super quick.

$130 for what you get with the CE seems awfully steep. Gsme plus a steelbook case, a few pins, a poster, and a small art book... that's it?

I just kinda expect more out of what is probably Nintendo's most beloved franchise.

I don't expect it. I just expect a direct to show more of the gameplay. Wouldn't it be weird to show another collector's edition weeks after the first one was announced? I don't see that happening.

I guess an OLED is still possible though.

Crazy prediction: They announce a Switch successor/pro with a LE Zelda version available

After the TotK trailer, he said "a collectors edition will be available on launch day" ... but it was while they were showing the current edition. I dunno, probably looking too deep into it, but it's odd that this would be the only CE/LE given the last one had two, and this one is pretty lackluster.

This would be the best case scenario, but realistically (because, you know, Nintendo), if they announce a Zelda Switch, it'll be current model with a skin of course.

When you compare them, I'd say both have things going for them:

Personally, if they took out the metal poster from Tears of the Kingdom and put in a soundtrack CD or something else that's usable, I think that would have been a great upgrade. I doubt I'd use the poster. But I do like the steel book.

MrBean, how would you have wanted the special edition to be?

Ha. Maybe. Or maybe just a Sheika slate?

I think it would be very cool if they announced a new Switch or Switch Lite that's a replica of the Sheika slate.

Wouldn't that be a no brainer? It would fly off the shelves.

To me, that photo of Zelda just hints at the idea that Zelda will have playable sections in Tears of the Kingdom. At the end of the trailer, she tells Link to "lend me your power" or something along those lines. I think that's why Link's arm is all effed up... because he's somehow transferring his life force (or something) to Zelda so she can go on some sort of journey elsewhere in the world/timeline/whatever.

I mean, it could also be an OLED tease but I think it's also more of a story-driven tease.

I didn't even read it. I thought it was Link... lol

Yeah, Zelda definitely playable in at least a limited fashion. I'd lean more towards she's playable throughout otherwise it wouldn't be worth hinting at.

Two player would be cool, but I doubt the Switch could handle split screen.

Why offer split screen when you can sell a second copy of the game?

I tried playing some other games on my Switch, but I've come back to botw.

I'm pushing myself to do Trial of the Sword. I dislike stuff where you have to redo stuff from the start if you fail. But, I just made it to the end of the first part. I read some guides too. So, maybe I can go further.

I think I'd enjoy it if Nintendo incorporated some rogue-like elements into TotK. *ducks flying tomatoes* No, seriously. If they want to add something challenging like Trial of the Sword, give me some way to upgrade my setup a little each time I try again. I find it helps motivate me.

The whole save & load aspect of botw feels old school to me. I prefer games that allow me not to think about that kind of thing. Just do something reasonable when I "die".

I had the most trouble with the first trial. I don't know if it was actually the hardest, or if just trying it several times and getting good enough to actually beat it made me better at the style of TotS, which helped me beat the 2nd and 3rd trials more easily. Probably the latter, because on paper, the 3rd trial definitely seems the hardest. It's much longer, and the last room in particular is insane. I think I got pretty lucky beating that last room the first time I reached it. One thing that helped me was playing slower. In the regular game, I always ran into battles guns-a-blazing, but in TotS, I slowed down and took my time. Any chance I could, I would take out enemies with bombs instead of wasting my resources, something I never did in the regular game because it's painfully slow.

Yeah, in the main game, I play very aggressively, hitting them fast and hard. Also, upgrading my armor so taking a few hits doesn't matter. This does not work well at all in the TotS, though.

I am decent with bombing skills, but they can backfire (blew myself up a few times). TotS is very generous with arrows too, but I have a lot of trouble hitting stuff that's moving. Even the Hinox, I mostly using running away, throwing bombs because I have trouble hitting its eye.

Though, I did just read a tip where you can use stasis on it first. That's a good idea! I hear in general that using stasis helps a lot in TotS. I just need to get in the habit of using it.

I also hear that doing the perfect guard shield trick with guardians is key in TotS. I've had some success with it, but I'm worried that one failure means game over. ...I do have a fairy, though.

Do you have the gyro controls turned on? Those helped me a lot with aiming.

Yeah, Stasis is great! Since Hinox is a mini-boss, he doesn't stay frozen as long as smaller enemies.

Definitely. When you're not in the middle of a run, just go practice it somewhere. Once you get the timing down, you'll barely ever miss it.

I turned off gyro controls. I had a pretty bad reaction to them. The shrines that use it are really hard for me too (just can't align things, end up walking around the room holding the switch in awkward positions...ugh).

Yeah, they can be really awkward in the shrine puzzles, but they're great for making slight adjustments to your aim when shooting arrows.
