Welcome to The GameTZ Game Club! This is my attempt at forming an easy to get into book club type thing, but with games! Anybody, and everybody, is welcome to join in on the fun!

Rules:

- Each month a random game will be chosen, by myself, for the club to play. Games can vary from the beginning of gaming onward to current-generation platforms. There are no limitations!

- You have from the 1st of every month to 11:59PM EST of the final day to complete the designated game. 100% completion isn't required. The point of the club is to provoke game discussion, as well as give GameTZ veterans and new users a place to mingle!]

- For every game completed, post a picture as proof of your completion Example. This is essential in order to receive your badge and entry to the monthly raffle.

- You will be awarded with a badge each month you complete the game. All badges will be proudly displayed next to your name in the original post. As long as you "roll credits" the game is considered beaten!

- Some months will feature prizes! Every user to complete the game of the month will be thrown into a drawing to win prizes! Users will be assigned a number and users will be randomly generated at some point the following month.

- Prizes will vary. Prizes will beon a donation basis by either me or another member. Sometimes physical, sometimes digital. If you would like to contribute, drop me a message. smile

- If you don't own the game, and you have access to it on another platform, you're welcome to play it that way. Just make sure that it's the same version, to qualify for the prize or badge.

- If you do not want to participate in the games, but would like to join in on the conversations, please do!

- If you would like to join, just post here, and I'll add you to the list of users. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or criticism, please don't hesitate to post them!

I really need to give it another chance. I got it early on and something about it didn't jive with me.

I also didn't like 3D World until they sped up the characters for the Switch release. So maybe I'm just picky with how 3D platformers control.

My guess is Donkey Kong Country.

So close! It's actually Yoshi's Island.

Assuming that Super Mario Advance 3 counts, I'm in for this one.

that would have been my second guess. Good choice! It's one of those games that I've started a few times over the years but never finished.

I'm sure it does. I'm debating as to which version to play. From what I've read, it seems that most prefer the SNES version for having superior color and audio, but the biggest reason I've seen for the GBA version is the control scheme. I found this on GameFAQS:

If there's one thing that improved about both Mario World and Yoshi's Island when they were ported to the GBA, it was the controls. The moves that were previously mapped to the A button were now mapped to the shoulder buttons. It feels far better being able to perform the spin jump in Mario World or aim and shoot eggs in Yoshi's Island using R. It feels easier to move and jump around when your thumb doesn't have as many extra buttons to deal with simultaneously.

There's a ROM patch for the GBA version that changes the audio and visuals to be more accurate to the SNES. Haven't tried it myself, but I'm likely opting for the SNES version to avoid the crying Mario.

GBA is a lot easier to access, and gives me a reason to use my Analog Pocket... Delemas delemas.

Technically, you can play the SNES version on the Pocket as well. The SNES core is great.

I'm gonna play it on my Switch.

Been a while since I've played this. I think my last playthrough was on 3DS, when Nintendo gave the GBA version as one of those free games as an apology for tricking you into overpaying for 3DS at launch.

I believe both SNES and GBA versions are available on the Switch for NSO/Expansion Pack subscribers, but I will choose the SNES version for one reason and one reason only: GBA's lack of SuperFX Chip meant it couldn't do the "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy" level justice.

I recall beating this for the RTT GotM when it was selected in late 2020... not sure I would want to beat it again on the SNES, but maybe on the GBA.

So far I've played up to World 2-3 of Yoshi's Island and I'm enjoying it. Usually I'm not too interested in revisiting retro games because I find they just aren't fun anymore if you take out the nostalgic memories you have of them. One example that I know will be an unpopular opinion is when I revisited Super Mario World last year for the Game Club, I felt at the halfway point I just wanted it to be over, but Yoshi's Island seems to have aged much better.

I feel like the animation in the GBA port is a lot smoother than on the SNES. On the second level when the Chain Chomps fall from the sky, I feel like they've gone from sluggish and easy to avoid, to massive annoying nightmares.

Anyone else agree, or am I going crazy?

I've been playing this on my Switch. Just finished world 2. While not very challenging, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. I love the use of Shy Guys. So far, I've seen Shy Guy ghosts and obese Shy Guys are run super fast for some reason. I get a kick out of the star power (or whatever it's actually called). Running around with Baby Mario is a hoot. What I've been most impressed with are the graphics. I'm especially impressed with the level of depth presented in some of the levels. At some points, you have three different levels of depth, each moving independantly. Pretty nice.

On a side note, I've recently aquired Cuphead. My daughter and I played the first level about an hour ago. It took us multiple attempts just to get through it! Man, this is a tough game, but in a good way, I think. It reminded me of old NES games I used to play. I mean, you could eventually beat them in about 30-60 minutes, but only after you've spent around 100 hours or so playing those tough levels over and over and over again.

These guys rock! Their running/waddling animation is the best.

I want to see them as a "big driver" variant in Mario Kart.
