For those of you planning on playing, what is your main pawn vocation?

I was thinking we could all share our pawn info here, what system we are playing on and our username/tag for that system. So we can add each other and rent/use each others pawns for no cost while also helping each other earn RC. We had a post like this 12 years ago for the original game as well. So some of us might already be on each others friends list.

For those that didn't play the first or do not know how this works... (just in spoiler tags for a cleaner topic, not actual game spoilers)

You can rent pawns on your friends list for free. There is no currency cost (rift crystals).
This is regardless of the pawns level compared to yours. So even if their pawn is 30 levels higher than you it is still free as they are on your friends list.
For any pawns not on your friends list, you have to pay RC (rift crystals).
The ones close in level to you are usually fairly cheap. But the farther way in level the more they cost.
In the first game after 10 levels above the cost jumped pretty big. Anything lower level than you is free no matter what.
There will be some pre-made ones that will be free and a bunch of lower level ones that cost basically nothing populated by the devs.
Those are there to let people get a full party early before you earn any RC yourself.
But using another persons pawn gets them RC in return, and experience for their pawn. Not the cost you pay. This is based on how long you use them, how much xp they earn while in your party and how you rate them at the end.
You use your pawn at all times. Even when others are using it.
After someone uses it and releases them, the next time you check in at an inn or camp site, you get the rewards from them using it.
You are also asked to send a gift by the game, which is optional after using them.
Most people send you consumable items or things to sell for money. But some will give you good armor or weapons if they found your pawn useful.
So using someones pawn from your friends list can benefit you both. They get RC, and you get a better than basic level entry pawn. However, not on day one.

Are you playing this weekend? I'm still undecided on mine. I've made two mages and an archer. But I'm not sure which one I'll use. Or if I want to switch them to a fighter. I've spent too much time in the character creator making pawns over the last week. Game drops in 10 hours or so and I have no idea.

I made my main pawn a tank in the first so I’ll probably do that again. My main character will be a mage for sure

You made me very interested in the game with this post. Never played the first one but the review of this game looks great, might pick it up once it comes out.

I’ll keep this thread in mind for when i do!

So I made a pawn I like for a warrior type tank, but then I asked my wife to make a character for me, and she made her look amazing. But she’s smaller and idk how well a smaller character would be as a tank. It’s been awhile since I’ve played and I know weight and height matter for stats, but how much does it really matter?

Not completely sure in this one. But the first it was for carry weight and stamina. Smaller characters couldn't carry as much, but they had better stamina. Faster regain and slower loss. So they could run and fight longer without needing a break. And apparently this game is way larger. And a lot people who have already played say stamina is a pain in the arse in the begging. So I think having a small fighter will be fine. You can always use the other pawns for storage.

Haven't had time to mess with the character creator yet, but I'm pretty sure my Arisen is going to be a Mage this time around as well. Probably go Fighter for my main pawn. Heading out of town tonight but I'll jump in when I get back on Sunday.

So after making a bunch of characters in the creator, all human. I just deleted most of them and made the pair I'll be going with. Both Beastren, the cat people. I'm going to be a fighter named Lionel (Lion-O). And my pawn is a mage, Cheetara. Thundercats, HO!. laughing out loud

Game is really good so far. I played for just over 3 hours last night. Staying up way too late, so this morning sucks for me. Should have taken the day off.

I ended up changing from being a fighter, because its so boring to play, to a mage myself. For now. And changed my pawn from a mage to archer. I forgot how unfun the fighter class is. And I actually think I might switch to the thief for the daggers. I don't understand why they split this out from the ranger class from the first game. Ranger in the first game was fantastic with having both the bow and daggers.

Also settings tip, go into the settings and adjust the camera closeness under camera settings. Its way too damn close to your character. I moved it all the way to the right and it still feels a bit too close at times.

Apparently the game is getting user review bombed because of micro-transactions? Claiming the game is pay to win, in a single player game? What? I didn't see this when playing last night. The game doesn't show you anything about them in the game. But after looking it up, it has the standard jrpg nonsense on the platform stores. So who cares? Why is it bad for this game but okay for every other jrpg all the sudden? The internet confuses me so much.

Yea, it's getting review bombed on Steam big time...down to a 'Mostly Negative' rating.

image

PCgamer article does a good job of explaining how easy it is to find most of the stuff Capcom decided to put microtransactions on.
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-dragons-dogm...

Just another way to bleed money from the customer on an already full retail-priced game. Maybe not a big deal for gamers like you or I that won't spend the money, but someone somewhere is buying this stuff. It's just a money grab. Very little protection for consumers on this type of stuff, so I tend to side with the consumer.

Genuinely curious, why do you need to go above 60 fps? Do you notice the difference if you have the fps display off?
Do you have a stable 60?

I notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps. My monitor is 144Hz. Most of the time it's around the 45-50 FPS range with all settings maxed. I switched to DLSS quality and now hover around 75 fps.

Looks like they added pawn codes. So you can use a pawn from any platform.

This game is also much harder than the first.

Go to Status from the main menu (in the game, not the games start screen main menu). Select your main pawn. Then select the Pawn menu at the top. You will see Status, Vocation and Pawn at the top. On the Pawn section you will see details. Pawn ID is in that.

To the peeps already playing this...how bad is the performance? A buddy of mine says he stopped playing and is going to wait for a patch. But he's on PC so I don't know if that's a PC-only issue or if it affects consoles as well.

I’m on pc and have not hit the big city area that many say is a big performance hit. But I’m playing on high with ray tracing on at 1080p and been getting good frames (50-60fps)

I’m also the type that is fine with 30fps so I’m not as picky as most pc users

I'm on PS5 and have had zero issues. The performance problems seem to be only on PC oddly. Almost like they made the game for console and ported to PC. You know, classic capcom. I've had some minor frame drops in the big city that I've found so far. But nothing really worth complaining about. No crashes, freezes or bugs. No slow downs, nothing besides a minor fps drop in the large city. And even then the game does a good job of de-spawning some npcs to fix the problem quickly. So you really only notice it if you are running through the city full speed. Which you'll rarely be doing.

Also most of the complaints about this game are from people who did not play the first. And didn't know what to expect. All the stuff about not having multiple save slots or being able to have multiple characters at once. Hating on the stamina and carry capacity. Not being able to fast travel at will, etc. Its all the same from the first game. Granted they could have made some quality of life improvements. But that wouldn't be DD then. I loved the first. And I'm loving this. I've put in way too many hours already. I'm level 24. Played something like 15-16 hours. Having an utter blast.

Just finished up my first play session. Love it! Spent far too long on the character creator - I hate that I spend so much time with them and I wish I had just done this earlier with the character creator demo - but I finally created an Arisen and Main Pawn I am very happy with. I only played the actual game for about 3 hours and my main takeaway is that the game is VERY faithful to the original - warts and all. And I'm all for it because the thing I love most about the original is how it defies all the rules of modern gaming and the result is an RPG that is so unique and unlike anything else on the market. But the issue is that I don't think the people who didn't like the first game or are used to the QOL stuff and hand holding you see in modern games will stick around long enough for the game to get its hooks in them. But I could be wrong. Fans of the original will eat this up, though.

@Archer Just hired your pawn. I'll use them tomorrow. @Shane12m Wanted to hire yours but I couldn't pull anything up with that ID

My pawn ID is 25CZRCOUUD4X. Fighter. Level 8

Yeah, agreed on all of this. It's just a bummer that you've got a combination of PC performance issues + people who didn't play the original being shocked by the lack of admittedly common modern QOL features + microtransactions leading to the game being review bombed everywhere. I guess Capcom should have waited and added microtransactions post launch like others games do because that's better I guess? Maybe it's just the fanboy in me that wants to see DD get the love and attention that I think it deserves, but I don't have any issues with any of the microtransactions on the PS Store. It's not like they've compromised the core game design or locked anything behind a paywall. It's all optional crap you can just ignore. I don't get it, but again maybe I'm the wrong person to be commenting on it.

Your code gives me an error as well. I tried the O as a O and a 0 and both give an error. Wondering if cross platform summoning is not working currently, or if its just a mistake in the code.

For someone reason yours is not showing in my pawn friend list, but you are on my PSN friend list. I found it by using the code however. I wonder if there is just a lag in the friend list populating.

Anyway, not sure what version of her you got. She has been many vocations tonight as I was grinding out passive skills for her. Hopefully you got to summon her for free from the friend list. Otherwise the high level would have cost a crap load of RC I imagine. I've played way too much this weekend. She is currently a Sorcerer. I'll use yours tomorrow as well and get it some knowledge and some goodies.

@Heavyd814life UGH. I summoned your pawn, gave it some of my older fighter gear. Nothing crazy. Just older gear that was sitting in my inventory. Was planning on running some exploring and side quests with it tomorrow in higher level areas, so didn't want him to be squishy. Went to check his skills, and accidentally dismissed him. So you should have that gear if you rest at an inn to collect his rewards for being used. I'll re-summon him tomorrow, lol.

Yeah just double checked it and I put it in correctly. Maybe it’s not cross platform with steam. Maybe someone with steam version try it out?

Reading up on it more, there is no cross platform pawn sharing. So maybe we can tag the platform when we share the code. Bummer

That is super lame. Why bother having codes if its not cross platform. I probably should have looked into it more than the one article I found about it after noticing it in game. I figured since they bothered to make the codes, it would be cross plat. So dumb. The info is stored on their servers already. Nothing stopping them from doing it.
