For those of you planning on playing, what is your main pawn vocation?

I was thinking we could all share our pawn info here, what system we are playing on and our username/tag for that system. So we can add each other and rent/use each others pawns for no cost while also helping each other earn RC. We had a post like this 12 years ago for the original game as well. So some of us might already be on each others friends list.

For those that didn't play the first or do not know how this works... (just in spoiler tags for a cleaner topic, not actual game spoilers)

You can rent pawns on your friends list for free. There is no currency cost (rift crystals).
This is regardless of the pawns level compared to yours. So even if their pawn is 30 levels higher than you it is still free as they are on your friends list.
For any pawns not on your friends list, you have to pay RC (rift crystals).
The ones close in level to you are usually fairly cheap. But the farther way in level the more they cost.
In the first game after 10 levels above the cost jumped pretty big. Anything lower level than you is free no matter what.
There will be some pre-made ones that will be free and a bunch of lower level ones that cost basically nothing populated by the devs.
Those are there to let people get a full party early before you earn any RC yourself.
But using another persons pawn gets them RC in return, and experience for their pawn. Not the cost you pay. This is based on how long you use them, how much xp they earn while in your party and how you rate them at the end.
You use your pawn at all times. Even when others are using it.
After someone uses it and releases them, the next time you check in at an inn or camp site, you get the rewards from them using it.
You are also asked to send a gift by the game, which is optional after using them.
Most people send you consumable items or things to sell for money. But some will give you good armor or weapons if they found your pawn useful.
So using someones pawn from your friends list can benefit you both. They get RC, and you get a better than basic level entry pawn. However, not on day one.

Are you playing this weekend? I'm still undecided on mine. I've made two mages and an archer. But I'm not sure which one I'll use. Or if I want to switch them to a fighter. I've spent too much time in the character creator making pawns over the last week. Game drops in 10 hours or so and I have no idea.

That is super lame. Why bother having codes if its not cross platform. I probably should have looked into it more than the one article I found about it after noticing it in game. I figured since they bothered to make the codes, it would be cross plat. So dumb. The info is stored on their servers already. Nothing stopping them from doing it.

That's weird. Yours showed up on my friend's list so thankfully I was able to summon her for free. All done with work for the day so I'm about to dive in!

Its there now. Not sure why it wasn't last night. Probably just a delay in updating after your first rest at an inn. As it only updates them from rests at an inn. Camping or other forms of resting do not update the pawn. Which sucks. They should have changed it to include camping as well.

I unlocked Mystic Spearhand vocation last night. And have been playing around with it today, getting it to rank 6. I'm disappointed with this vocation. It was the one I was most hyped to check out. But I find it to be very underwhelming. I'm not sure I will use this at all after this. No idea why this is locked away like it is. The ranger, thief, warrior, mage and sorcerer are way more powerful and useful than this one. Also more fun to play. I'm very confused by this vocation. Its extremely situational. And sucks for mobs/basic enemies.

Other vocations complaints I have is them removing certain spells for mages/sorcs from the first game. Restricting to active 4 skills instead of 8. Cutting passives/augments from 10 to 6.

I didn't really play the first game, but I'm loving this one. It really captures the "I'm going on an adventure" feel which is one of my favorite things in gaming. It's definitely the kind of game you have to meet on it's own terms but overall it seems great.

I haven't really had any major performance issues, but I've got a pretty beefy PC and cap the framerate at 60 so that helps. Ive also mostly been playing via streaming to my steam link or steam deck which can make performance issues a bit less noticeable.

I agree. This game, and the first really, is at its best when you are just out exploring the world and looking for your own adventures. If you are looking for a quest filled game that holds your hand and points you to everything, you wont have a good time with the game most likely. I've seen a bunch of posts already on reddit about how they finished the game in 20 hours and its over and there is nothing to do, etc, etc. And I just think, really? You rushed the story and didn't explore the world or try to have fun with it. That is a you problem, and not the games. You played it wrong. The good stuff is just finding things in the world on your own. And getting into crazy situations and big monster fights at the most inconvenient times. Which sadly most people don't want. Which is why the first game was so niche. And why this game is having a big decline in players after having amazing launch numbers. But that doesn't take away from my enjoyment. I played way too much over the weekend. I'm at 40 hours already. I don't regret it. Loved every minute of it. But I am also one of those few nutters who still plays DD:DA every other year for about 80 hours as well.

While I really like this game, I have started to notice a bunch of the issues it has. And that they made a bunch of really stupid design choices. Like locking an item behind collecting 180 tokens in the open world that increases your vocation xp gain (discipline points) but only by 10%. So that 20dcp would now only be 22dcp. By the time you can get all those tokens, you will have already maxed out all the vocations you want to use if not all of them. That is such a crapty reward for finding so many collectables. That takes so damn long. Also dumb things like setting a minuscule +30 point gain as the final reward for maxing out a vocation. Which you can get from just wearing a ring or upgrading your weapon. Something that would be very beneficial to have early on. But by the time you reach rank 9 of thief, which gives you the augment for strength. It would be a waste of a slot to use it for just 30 points in strength due to your limited slots for them. Same with maxing out sorc for the magic version. It would have been better to be a small +% so it stays relevant through the entire game. Instead of being obsolete by the time you get it. Lots of little things like this that just do not make any sense what so ever. I feel like this game is good. But it could have been so much better with a lot of these little odd thing being changed.

It's the QOL stuff that bugs me more than anything else. Like it was cool back in 2013 when I played Dark Arisen and it felt like I was playing an old school RPG from the late 90s. But it's wild that 10 years later it feels like I'm playing the exact same game minus all the enhancements we've had since from games like The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, BG3 etc. It's the small things for me. Stuff that might not even matter to most people. Like how do you not mocap a woman in 2024. I can't tell you how much time I spent tweaking the posture on my Arisen so she at least kinda sorta moves the way a woman does. I doubt that bugs anyone else, but it bugs the hell out of me.

Also I can't even sell from storage like I could in DD1. Why remove that feature? Also talking to pawns is useless compared to the first game. They don't offer any sort of real advice or guidance anymore. I just remember talking directly to them being more useful. The "small talk" dialogue option is pointless. Also Ox carts are slow as hell. Might as well just jog. And give me the option to change vocation at camp when I'm out and about. I totally spaced that I had changed my Arisen from a Mage to a Sorcerer and I went out exploring without a healer in the party. Bad time! Also a really fun time because we had to forage a lot more than I usually do to stay alive, but the option would be nice so I don't have to trek all the freaking way back to town. Lastly something as simple as being able to transfer items in bulk between party members...how is this not included?

BUT as much as I just complained, I still freaking love this game lol. I've been playing for like 5 hours straight and can't get enough. I still really love exploration and all the things you discover and how the game doesn't hold your hand at all. You're out there in the wild. Good freaking luck! And I'm loving the quests and how random and weird they are. They pop up out of nowhere and I'm playing without a guide or anything and just trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do sometimes is so much fun. And something random happened about an hour ago...someone sent me a friend request and said he liked my pawn and wanted to hire him but didn't have enough rift crystals. So I accepted his friend request so he could hire my pawn for free and I hired his pawn as well so I could help him earn rift crystals. This weird and random interaction with a stranger is part of what makes DD so amazing. Nothing else like it.

So uh, do not turn ray tracing off. While it will give you a small fps boost. It makes the game look terrible. Turning motion blur off make its run a bit smoother though. And actually makes it look better. I usually turn this off in any game that lets me. I hate motion blur. You can also lock the FPS to 30. Haven't tried that yet.

I'm off work tomorrow so I've been playing this all night. It's just so damn good! I've been talking it up so much that one of my friends who really isn't much of a gamer outside of Fortnite, COD etc actually picked it up and he's actually enjoying it!

@Archer I went to rehire your pawn tonight and she asked if we'd met before. The nerve lol. I see she has the woodland wordsmith specialization now which is perfect because I've got to do some quests up there. And damn dude she's level 76! Are you close to the end?

Also I stumbled on a riftstone called the Riftstone of Remembrance that contains all the pawns you've hired so far. Weirdly nostalgic and it's insane how attached I am to all of them. And a bit random but I wish you could level up Luksa (one of the Capcom official pawns and I think she's the first pawn you meet when you get to Borderwatch). I had her in my party for much of the early game but she's only level 20 so I dismissed her a while ago.

I actually finished the game. Saw both endings, did the end game stuff. And went into NG+ for a bit to finish up some trophies. Now taking a break for a couple days because I played way too much of it in the last 13 days. 111 hours. Tim to touch grass for a couple days. But I Loved it. 9/10. It has issues, but the fun I had while playing far out ways them.

Also my pawn is currently an archer with a bow that gives 4x XP if she gets the final kill. I was messing around in NG+ with it because the difficulty doesn't increase so everything was super easy. I was just setting up kills for more xp to try and check stat growths. Turns out its so small after level 40 it doesn't matter. But anyways, if you want me to change her to something else let me know. More than happy to boot it up and re-config her.

I also just found out there is an anime for Dragon's Dogma. Came out a couple years ago. Its on Nefflix, they produced it or something. I hear its terrible. But I'm going to check it out. I'm not an anime person. I've seen a few of the older movies from the 80's and 90's back in the day. But I've never seen any modern anime shows, or movies for that matter. So I'm probably going to doubly hate it since anime fans and a fans of the first game hated it.

Dude don't bother. I watched the first episode with my cousins a couple of years ago and I was hard out after about 10 mins. I'm pretty sure the people who made the anime didn't bother playing the game. It's poorly written and the actual animation is low budget. It's such a low effort anime and it'll just make you angry especially since you aren't even into anime.

Yeah I just watched the first episode and a half. WTF is that dragon, and the cyclops. Its such low budget looking cgi. It stands out so bad and made the whole thing a joke. Everything else is hand drawn and looks good. But the big monsters are just like some 2005 freeware video game level cgi. It looks so odd. Also the story so far does seem like they just took the franchise and did their own thing. It seems to be based in Christianity as well, due to this seven deadly sins theme. So I think I'm out.

Anyone need any portcrystals, ferrystones, or late game mats or anything else? PS5 only, because they didn't bother implementing cross play server side for pawns, which was a huge missed opportunity. I'm going to delete my save file to start over for when DLC comes out. But also keep a backup of this save file just in case I want to go back to it for some reason. So figured if anyone wants anything before I do that, let me know. Just give me your PS5 pawn code. Or if you are on my friends list I can just grab your pawn that way.

Just as an FYI there are a very limited number of portcrystals in the game. You can only get 6 (seven if you buy the DLC one for $3, lol). And when you go into another cycle or ng+ you can not get them again. You are locked to those 6 unless someone gives you theirs. I wish I had had about 12 of them during my play. So many places you have to run back and forth to so far apart. They also will go into your inventory and you have to placed them again when going into ng+ which is a huge step back from the first game. But if anyone wants extras I got 6 to hand out.

@Archer You sure it's only 6 portcrystals? Looks like I have 7 atm. And I didn't even know you could only buy ONE portcrystal. Here I was thinking you could buy an infinite number which is why I'd kinda come around to siding with the people who were upset about the microtransactions. Stupid Capcom. Can't even do microtransactions properly lol. They are also selling RC and people are giving them flack for it but here I am with 7000 RC and nothing to spend them on lol. I found a merchant who was selling dyes and I got really excited thinking I could dye my armor, but it can only be used to dye your hair. Sigh. And it's beyond pointless when you can buy the Art of Metamorphosis for the same price. As much as I love this game there are so many baffling design decisions.

Someone either gave you one, or you bought the DLC one.

1. Completing the Side Quest A Trial of Archery.
2. Completing the Main Quest Feast of Deception.
3. Sphinx's Riddle of Madness.
4. Sphinx's Riddle of Conviction (If given a Portcrystal)
5. Forest Griffin's Nest.
6. Bought from the Dragonforged NPC.

Also you can only have 10 on the map, just like the first game. So having anymore than that you would just want to sell them.

And yeah, all the DLC is a one time purchase. And the only thing to spend RC is on the two cosmetic shops (which yeah, the dye stuff is stupid as hell, let me color my armor) and hiring pawns much higher level than you. They got a lot of people thinking there would be something in this game like BBI had where you needed RC for a bunch of things gear related. Which we probably will come the expansion. And I agree with the baffling design choices. So many little things in the game that you just go, really capcom.

I figured that might be the case after posting. But the next time you rest at an inn it will be Christmas morning, lol. If you don't want any of that you can at least sell it for big chucks of gold.

I also set my pawn quest to give me one beast-hide (from killing a goblin, most people probably have 99 in their storage) for 12 onyx. Which sell for 28K. And are also used to upgrade some gear I think. So everyone can do that for free money.

Not really that big of a deal honestly. Just dismiss the pawn, and the other hired one. Then drown yours in the river/sea, a.k.a send to the brine. Pull yours back out of a rift stone. But also

just like the first game, all important (quest givers, merchants, inn keeps, etc.) NPC's come back after 7 in game days. Only non quest/important ones will have to be revived via wake stone at the morgue.

So it does suck. But its not something to be paranoid about.

@Heavyd814life Okay, if you rest you will have 3 of them. All I had in storage. I also sent over an Eldricite. Super rare. I only had one. Only found in post game. You need a bunch for mage/sorcerer/magick archer late game gear upgrades. So since your playing a sorcerer I sent it over. And another portcrystal since the quest was showing I could do it again, lol.

Umm weird. It didn’t come through when I rested. I’m guessing you rested once you dismissed my pawn?

Also dude sorcerer is so OP. Augural Flare is completely broken and overpowered. Wouldn’t be surprised if they nerfed it with an update at some point.

I probably forgot to rest after sending them. Should be good now.

And yeah there are a few things that are just insanely overpowered. Augural Flare is one of them. The magick archer one Sagittate Avalanche is another. But just wait until you unlock the two maister skills for sorcerer. Meteoron and Maelstrom. Instant field clearing skills. But they take forever and you can't move. Nor does the speedup skill work on them.

A lot of skills and vocations are OP I believe. But getting OP is part of the fun. Spearhand is pretty broken with its shield ability too

Yeah, there is something for every vocation that is just insane. But with thief its just the basic attack, lol. Thief has to be by far the most OP and brokenly strong vocation in the game. And yeah its part of what makes the game so much fun. Just running around the world and killing things. And all the crazy combos you can do with your pawns. Like when I was using thief and my mage pawn would cast augural flare on a drakes face and I would climb up and whack the crap out of it with my daggers. Causing an explosion so powerful it would take off 4 health bars. Or the archer pawn using taring arrows and me using explosive blades to light a griffon on fire to prevent it flying away. Ugh, am I going to start playing this again now. I am aren't I. Stupid sexy dragon's dogma.

Got both Meteoron and Maelstrom last night. Ridiculous lol. At least it takes a long time to cast them otherwise I'd spam the hell out of both.

Still don't understand why we only get 4 active skills this time around. I literally never use Galvanize on my Sorcerer. Wish I didn't have to keep swapping out skills to keep combat fresh. Just one more thing I hope they address with an update/expansion down the line. Cause I'm 100% playing through this again at some point!

And dude thanks for all the goodies! Now I've got portcrystals everywhere lol

True true. Ran into two ogres at the same time last night and it just felt sooo good crushing both in less than a minute!
