For those of you planning on playing, what is your main pawn vocation?

I was thinking we could all share our pawn info here, what system we are playing on and our username/tag for that system. So we can add each other and rent/use each others pawns for no cost while also helping each other earn RC. We had a post like this 12 years ago for the original game as well. So some of us might already be on each others friends list.

For those that didn't play the first or do not know how this works... (just in spoiler tags for a cleaner topic, not actual game spoilers)

You can rent pawns on your friends list for free. There is no currency cost (rift crystals).
This is regardless of the pawns level compared to yours. So even if their pawn is 30 levels higher than you it is still free as they are on your friends list.
For any pawns not on your friends list, you have to pay RC (rift crystals).
The ones close in level to you are usually fairly cheap. But the farther way in level the more they cost.
In the first game after 10 levels above the cost jumped pretty big. Anything lower level than you is free no matter what.
There will be some pre-made ones that will be free and a bunch of lower level ones that cost basically nothing populated by the devs.
Those are there to let people get a full party early before you earn any RC yourself.
But using another persons pawn gets them RC in return, and experience for their pawn. Not the cost you pay. This is based on how long you use them, how much xp they earn while in your party and how you rate them at the end.
You use your pawn at all times. Even when others are using it.
After someone uses it and releases them, the next time you check in at an inn or camp site, you get the rewards from them using it.
You are also asked to send a gift by the game, which is optional after using them.
Most people send you consumable items or things to sell for money. But some will give you good armor or weapons if they found your pawn useful.
So using someones pawn from your friends list can benefit you both. They get RC, and you get a better than basic level entry pawn. However, not on day one.

Are you playing this weekend? I'm still undecided on mine. I've made two mages and an archer. But I'm not sure which one I'll use. Or if I want to switch them to a fighter. I've spent too much time in the character creator making pawns over the last week. Game drops in 10 hours or so and I have no idea.

True true. Ran into two ogres at the same time last night and it just felt sooo good crushing both in less than a minute!

You "fix" this by changing your pawn to a sorcerer and hiring two more sorcerers with those skills as well. Full party of sorcerers. And chain/combo cast them together with the synergy system. And just kill a dragon in one cast. All 7 life bars, lol.

Its actually two casts. But look how fast it casts with all four of them doing it on the second one. First cast, one of them isn't using it and the spell half misses the dragon. But that second cast...

Lol that's pretty damn accurate.

Just finished up the endgame stuff. Loved this game! I'm going to need a Dark Arisen style release asap with a hard mode, more enemy types/variety, more things to do with RC, tons of QOL stuff, more endgame, more vocations, more skill/ability slots, more pawn voices, more/better character interactions...more, more, more!

Yeah, I hope we get a DA equivalent expansion. I want more as well. Its still beyond baffling how this game went backwards compared to DA QoL improvements. It feels like base DD1 in a lot of ways. Things that DA fixed. And then they unfixed them for base game here.

Idk what it is but I’m not getting sucked into this game anymore 20 hours in. With the first game I was super into the mage/sorcerer class and played a caster for the entire game and loved it.

This time I feel like I’m getting bored playing a caster and now I’m not sure what vocation to focus on. I know I’m gonna end up with magick archer or warfarer. But exploring around just doesn’t seem as fun anymore. Maybe because I don’t have the same time to game as I used to when the first one came out?

Gonna try switching to thief until I unlock either of those vocations and see if I can get back into it

Thief is my favorite to play. Well, actually warfarer because you can use anything from any vocation all at once. But the dagger play is so much fun. I too get bored of magic when using it too much. And I tend to switch vocations up a lot anyways. So once warfarer was unlocked it was great for me. Sounds like it would be the same for you.

No spoilers, hopefully this isn't considered a spoiler anyways. You can b-line directly there and get it at anytime. If you follow story progress that wouldn't be until the very end of the game that you would be in that area. Same with magic archer. So if you want those now to keep things interesting for you, I'd go get them now. You would need to look that info up, which might also be a spoiler. But just explore and you'll find it.

Yeah I looked up where on the map it’s located. May just make the journey and get those classes. I was playing last night as sorcerer one last time and I was having fun, so maybe I just needed a break from the game haha. Will def mess around with thief though because it is a great vocation to play as so far (level 3)

Nice!

I jumped back in last night. Started up NG+ and spent hours recreating my Arisen and Main Pawn. Playing through NG+ kinda highlights how badly the game needs a hard mode. I thought Sorcerer was OP but Magick Archer is just…wow!

Yeah NG+ is too easy since there is no scaling or adjustment what so ever. I rushed through it to the post story again in ng+. But have now completed that already and am about to be pushed into NG++ after one more rest. I'm trying get all the badges for my pawn. Why I have no idea. I think I'm level 90 now. No idea why I keep playing honestly. I think its more a lack of something else I want to play.

Another reason why I like the trophies. I try to get them all and if I’m satisfied I move on. Certain games-returnal- I just keep doing it.

Ha! Same. When I saw your pawn at level 89 last night I figured you couldn't find anything else to play either. I really wanted to hold off until a real update or expansion came out, but everything else I've tried playing has just been meh. I even booted up Mass Effect Andromeda because I just wanted an RPG to play. But that didn't last long. Figured I might as well jump back into DD2 and find more things to complain about lol.

I really need to give Returnal another shot. I've had it since launch, but only played it for about 30 mins before deciding to play something else.

Yeah I booted up Dark Arisen and deleted my old save and started a new game. Couldn't get into it after a few hours. Tried FF16, couldn't get into it. Tried a couple other games, none of them grabbed me. Thought about buying a new game, but nothing really grabbed me. Plus having a feeling of not really wanting to drop $70 on something I probably wasn't going to end up playing anyways turned me off that real quick too. And I just kept thinking about DD2. So went back to it. I'll honestly probably play this for two more weeks until the Fallout 4 update comes out. Hopefully with a new trophy list for the PS5 version. But maybe not. The hype of the show will wear off by then and I probably wont want to play it by that point, lol. Gaming is so for weird for me in my mid 40s. I don't really have the desire to play lots of things anymore. Yet I have a strong desire to play something, always. Its a struggle. I tend to find one thing and play it for extended periods of time now. Instead of playing lots of things like I used to. Like putting 600+ hours into BG3. After 400 on PS5, I bought it on xbox and sunk 200+ in there. And I tend to replay a lot of older games I love more than new game too. Like by a large margin.

EDIT: Just went into NG++. Swapped mine any my pawns genders to change it up. My pawn is now a dude named Frost. White tiger dude.

Just hired her. Anything you need? I'll send her back with a portcrystal. It's one of the things I definitely wish I had a couple more of during my first playthrough.

@Archer Frost looks badass! I see your Arisen is a Wayfarer. Can you just mix and match any vocations? And can you equip whatever armor you want? I'm honestly way more interested in doing that than I am in the vocation itself lol. But I am curious if it's anything like the hybrid classes from the first game.

@Heavyd814life Yeah, Warfarer lets you equip any weapons from any vocation you want. Even multiple weapons at once. And you can wear any armor from any vocation as well. Mix and match however you like. And with the weapons you can have say 4 equipped (max 9, but who is doing that), and it only counts the heaviest towards your encumbrance. So you aren't penalized for having a bunch equipped. HOWEVER. To do this you have to use one of your four skill slots for the special skill for this class that lets you change weapons. So you only get three skills. And they do not change when you change the weapon. Huge fudge up on their part. You only get 3. Period. So like I have daggers, a bow and staff. I have two dagger skills. One bow skill. And not magic/staff skills. Staff is just for levitate. Should have been three skills per weapon type. But another huge upside to this vocation is you level up all of them when using it. Each one get 5% of your DCP you gain. So you can level up ones you aren't playing to unlock their augments while using it. Which is nice. Its slower to level them up, but its nice. Oh, and another big down side is not maister skills. Only normal skills. So none of the best skills from each vocation.

But I guess I should add you don't have to use the skill that lets you change weapons. You could just use one weapon and have four skills. And use any armor you want. You then just lose out on the maister skill for the vocation weapon you selected. Like you could play a sorcerer with warrior armor. Or a magic archer in mage robes.

Of course they found a way to make it lame. Just 3 skills? Having the special skill take up a skill slot sounds kinda dumb. They could have easily done what they did with Anodyne for mages where it's a utility skill and doesn't take up a skill slot, right? I do like your set up, though. Daggers for massive damage, bow for ranged and those stupid harpies and the staff for levitate. The versatility and all the possible combos makes it pretty interesting, though.

Being able to level up all the other vocations passively for the augments is definitely a plus. I'm a Magick Archer atm and I really miss levitate so that's nice as well. I might play around with it for a while. Feels like it would be worth it for the fashion alone. Might wait until I do NG++ which feels inevitable at this point.

Not sure how it being a core skill would have worked. It needs a button. And you get the core skills of any vocation for the weapon you are using. So you get levitate and Anodyne with a mage staff. And with a sorcerer staff you get levitate and the stamina regen thing. And quick step with daggers, etc. So I get why its a skill as that was the easiest way to set the button for it. Not much else is open on the controller for it. Which is why we should have gotten at minimum two sets of skills. Two sets of 3. Like in the first game. Where L1 was a set and R1 was a set. For each of your weapon types in the hybrid vocations. So they could have done something like that. Like say 3 skills for a melee weapons, daggers, fighter weapon, warrior weapon and mystic spear hand weapon. You get three slots for any of those weapons. Then three slots for any ranged. Ranger bow, magic archer bow, mage skills, sorcerer skills and trickster skills. Would have been easy enough to setup so when switching between any of those types it changes the selected set of three skills. And then instead of allowing us to equip 9 weapons. We could have been limited to 4. Two of each type. Two melee class and two ranged class. So you could have had daggers with one skill and a duospear with two skills. And then a bow with one skill and a staff with two skills kind of setup. That would have made for an interesting solo experience without any pawns.

Capcom needs to hire me for the fixes in the expansion, lol.

Thanks a ton for schooling my girl. I think I’m good. I have a couple of port crystals but I’m not using them because the ferry stones are steep. Too early game for me to use them frequently. Yeah, daggers has always been the way to go. Both games. They feel so powerful and so fun to climb and slice things to death in record times. Playing that and then trying to play a fighter or warrior makes those two feel so slow and lame. Having said that. I do think both fighter and warrior are better in this one than the first game. But I'd still rather use daggers for that burst damage. And the climb and slice ability.

Yeah this. And use Rivet Shot instead of Pinpoint Volley. Pinpoint Volley is okay for crowd control, but I almost never use it.

Also Ricochet Shot. It may be my fav skill in the whole game. I legit go out of my way to find caves just so I can use it to wreck everything.

Oh and Martyr’s Bolt, of course. It’s completely broken. I don’t use it because it deals too much damage.

Yeah, trickster sucks. Its only good for one thing, making dragons sit down. But dragons aren't hard to fight to begin with. And are fun to fight. So making a dragon just stand there and do nothing while your pawns slowly kill it is stupid. The whole vocation is stupid.

So last night I bought the expensive house in Vermund for 200k thinking it must offer something the cheaper house doesn't. Well it doesn't. And guests and gifts still go to the cheaper house. Yet another half-baked feature added to the game for no reason. Let me decorate, or have armor/weapon stands, or let all my pawns come in and chill, or let me soak in a tub to get the effects I'd get at the hot springs, or let me cook and get buffs i'd get from camping, or let me change vocations. Something. Anything.

Pointless, pointless, pointless. Really need an AMA with these devs so we can ask them what they were smoking when they made some of these decisions.

Level 42 now. Maxed out thief and magic archer. Moved in to sorcerer to get the casting over with and raise magic some more. This one feels much more reliant on your party composure for success than OG. We’re slaughtering everything with relative ease.

I’ve set my pawn quest at 10k reward to kill a griffon. No one is doing it. So I set it to 10k to find an item. Still relatively low usage. Made her a thief because those are money on your team. We’ll see how that goes.

Yeah, homes are completely pointless. I get why they didn't want to expand on them though. Due to losing them when going into a NG+ cycle. But there should be some benefit to owning them. Other than worthless gifts every few hours. I like the cooking and bathing idea. If you own one of the expensive houses you should be able to do that stuff.
