I started Pac-Man World today. I was going to play the Game Boy Advance version, but five minutes of that awful perspective and I nope'd my way out of there. So I bought the psOne Classics version, downloaded it on my Vita, and ... corrected the aspect ratio thanks to the tip in Game Sack's video. Because I'm a nerd.

I got through the first two levels and was pleasantly surprised. It's not a stunner by any means, but everything about it was just good enough to be a good time. Even the controls felt pretty solid...

...until I got to the third level and lost all my lives because Pac kept inexplicably moving into the foreground and falling to his death after butt bouncing on something.

I tried Pac-Man World 2 on the about a week ago, or after Benstylus was "offended" that we were talking about DKC and not Pacman more - it wasn't terrible, but the controls weren't my favorite, especially the camera - which should be understandable based on the age/era of the game. However I haven't gone back to it as it's just not a priority and I'm simply more inclined to spend 4.5+ hours (according to HL2B) elsewhere.

It's almost been a year since we played Daytona USA as part of a month highlighting games with great music. Since 'M' is for "music" and "May", let's nominate some games for the May 2024 Game of the Month with standout soundtracks and scores.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a nomination, but 3 games come to mind when you say great music: Top Gear on , Metroid Prime on (likely shouldn't be included since Frank did it recently in his thread), and lastly the Halo series, specifically 1-3.

I've been tumbling down the old PC music rabbit hole lately (think "emulation of old Roland devices"), and The Secret of Monkey Island is one of a handful of games nearly everyone uses to test their MIDI setup. It's a classic among classic Lucasarts adventure games, it's supposed to be funny as Hell, and thanks to a Special Edition re-release, it's still readily available on GOG, Steam, and Xbox.

I've been stuck on Anubis Rex in Pac-Man World for a few days now. I've gotten to the point where I can make it to its final (fourth) phase on a single life, but I can't seem to dodge both sets of fireballs, the tornadoes, and the lasers without burning through all of my health. And that's on top of the stupid platforming mistakes I make that send me into the lava.

This game is surprisingly brutal for something starring Pac-Man. It's a shame because I actually think it's quite charming. I'm just terrible at it.

Finally beat that stupid boss. The big revelations that did it:
1. Pac can make the diagonal jump from the two inner spinners to Rex's fists without falling in the lava, if the physic engine doesn't get you.
2. There's no big rush to activate the three other spinners after you activate the first. You can activate one, jump to the fists area to safely wait on tornadoes and lasers, and then activate the next when the coast is clear. The only time you really need to book it is after you activate the last spinner.

The two levels that followed were significantly easier. We'll see if that holds up.

The boss fights of the Space and Clown hubs in Pac-Man World were both pleasant surprises, especially the former.

I don't think I'm going to finish the eight remaining levels by tomorrow, but it'll get done eventually.

I still wanna try the Gotm but if I try to play through Escape From Monkey Island on PS2 first will that count for anything? I have no internet right now so I can’t play the gotm game on Xbox Series S yet.

I also might work on MS Pac Man Maze Madness in between some spring cleaning either way though. I finally found my Dreamcast and only started playing that last Friday. I knew I wouldn't have time to pass it so I figured I would try again later.

Man I forgot how long a tour was in Top Gear. I'm working on the Amateur one now and already put well over an hour into that. I guess I thought the amateur one was shorter, then longer for the next 2 higher difficulties or levels, oh well enjoying it either way. Great music too.

Got Top Gear. Since I recommended it and Ren2k made it a bonus pick I was certainly going to play it. Only did the Amateur series (so far), but that was still 8 regions with 4 races each. I won most of them and finished each series as the top driver, great memories of this game.

Made it all the way to the last level of Pac-Man World only to learn that I can't enter it without saving all the friends throughout the game first. I had a feeling that was going to happen...

Played the Special Edition from the , on my XSX and used some hints and looked up likely too much stuff, but I was more interested in the story and trying to do lots of the dialog options which got a good number of chuckles out of me thanks to the excellent writing, but the voice acting was top notch as well.

Proof, I had to run to go eat after beating so I grabbed a picture of the achievement and the date is in the top right.
